Sierra Nevada Harvest Single Hop IPA - Equinox

Sierra Nevada Harvest Single Hop IPA - Equinox

A complex and versatile new hop.

Our history with Equinox hops stretches back well before this newly developed varietal ever had a name. We were the first brewery in the world to get our hands on the intense and nuanced hop. We fell in love with the complex aromas ranging from bright and citrusy to herbal and woody, with a top note of fruity, garden-fresh bell pepper. Equinox is part of our five-bottle Harvest series, which features single hop, fresh hop, wet hop, and wild hop beers.

3.7 Draft pour at sheffields. Orange and cloudy with sticky white head. Sweaty aroma. Hoppy and fruity and good but it was somewhat of a let down.
3.5 Poured from a bottle it is a clear golden color with a slight head. The aroma is fruity the taste is an orange citrus bitter taste
3.5 From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a clear copper with a thick white head. Fruiry nose. Grassy flavors. Bitter finish.
3.3 Bottle to pint glass. Overt pine with moderate citrus. Clear orange with moderate white head with slight webbing. Taste is forest, pine, and slight citrus. Moderate high bittering.
3.6 From the bomber. Dark gold pour. Musty, earthy and woody aroma. Smooth clean malt with a nice herbal tea like, citrus and woody hop taste. Very nice.
3.5 24 oz bottle from Biggie Wine & Liquor. Gold and clear appearance with a big, lingering, lacy white head. Aroma of herbal hops, pine, citrus fruits, grass and light woody/earthy notes. Similar flavor, medium hop bitterness with a light malt backbone. Medium body with a crisp, carbonated feel.
4.3 super hoppy aroma, but the hops dissipate in the taste. Citrus. Really light and smooth. A little earthy. I mean pretty simple, and that’s what I’d expect from a single hop ipa
4.3 Orange amber with an excellent frothy eggshell head. Bursting aromatics. Garden fresh and fruity. Woody and floral. Complex and interesting indeed. Super Smooth medium body. Great texture. Not overly oily. No astringent or harshness. Good balance. Soft easy bitterness. Excellent.
3.8 Bomber from Tosa Wine and Spirits. Pours typical Sierra orangey amber - literally all their hoppy brews are the same color - with a coating of off-white lacing that stuck around for ever. Coat of lace makes appearance a 5. Aroma has sweet fruits, citrus, some pine and some sweet malts. Later down the glass, the spiciness is more pronounced. Taste is of sweet fruits, pine, tangy citrus, some spices and biscuity malts. Medium bodied, finishes sweetly hoppy with a tang. Shrug? I get a raw hoppy, Celebration-ness out of this, with more fruit presence. 14.2
3.7 Bottled. Pours a medium gold, slightly cloudy, with a white head. Hoppy, floral aroma, orange peel, caramel, spruce, apricot, licorice (!), mango, white pepper. Dry, medium to full bodied, mid bitterness, creamy CO2. Hoppy, floral, quite malty taste, orange peel, caramel, spruce, apricot, grass, yeast. Quite rich, true to the Sierra house style, well balanced, but slightly uninspired. (2014-11-07)
4.1 Cloudy golden color with average head. Unique hop is truly multi- aroma and multi- taste. Modest bitterness.
3.5 Golden, lots of head and plenty of lacing. Herbal and slightly floral, lots of malt. Quite bitter.
3.7 Bottle. Poured golden with frothy head and pretty good lacing. Aroma and flavor is herbal hops with some light grainy malt. Smooth mouthfeel, almost taplike. I don’t like this as much as the standard Harvest Ale, but it’s still drinkable.
3.4 Sierra Nevada Harvest Equinox -- I had high hopes for this beer based on the rating on this site, but it did not live up. Slight floral aroma rising from a nice amber pour with an off-white head. Taste is slightly floral with some orange notes but a little too piney for my taste in the end. Equinox doesn’t live up to the hype, but is a decent brew from Sierra Nevada.
2.9 24 ounce bottle purchased at The Davis Beer Shoppe. Bottled 7/9/14, so this is 3.5 months old...The aroma is somewhat faint with lightly fruity lemongrass notes, and some white pepper. Quite floral, too. Transparent orange color with a large, strong, frothy and rocky white head present. This starts with some peppery hop spiciness. Some cardboardy malt backbone. Finishes a little herbal and moderately bitter to finish. Some oxidation is definitely present in this elderly sample.
3.8 bottle. Golden with one finger head. Light body with unique spicy hop. I don’t think I would have been able to place it, but the bottle mentions green pepper, and that definitely comes through well now that I’m looking for it. Good flavor with medium bitterness.
3.7 Draft: Nearly clear, golden-amber with a small white head. Woody, earthy orange hop aroma. Flavour is sweet orange, tangy pine. Good, strong, orange and hop tones throughout. Very tasty.
3.1 Poured a pale hard gold with an impressive, frothy head. Strong, nose. In the mouth it is pure hops. No malt to back it up.
3.3 Large white head, excellent retention and lacing that lasts. Lightly hazy, gold hued brew. Nose is a little earthy, spicy, herbacious. Body is sorta medium, too clean, decent carbonation. Fairly Dry malts, spicy hop flavors, bit leafy, maybe some citrus notes, bit of perfume. Dry finish, mild bitterness, lightly spicy. Fat bomber from statelineliquors.
4.1 Draft at El Bait Shop. Pours clear Amber with white head and sticky lacing. Not much aroma. Taste is nice bitterness but followed by some sweetness.
3.4 Just felt a little short on both the aroma and the taste of what I wanted. I didn't expect or want a hophead beer, but it just seemed short of a standard IPA.
3.4 Bottle. Copper. A little earthy with bitter lemon notes. Interesting but, I don’t love this one. Nothing special. Clean and easy.
3.5 On tap at The Ginger Man, Greenwich, CT. A dark golden/orange coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Hoppy, citrus, pine aroma. Tastes similar, hoppy, citrus, pine, slight sweetness.
3.6 On tap at Kin. Pours a yellow Amber color with a bit of head. Mellow hop flavor that lingers long after. Refreshing on a hot day.
3.8 Bottle at home. Pretty unique and enjoyable IPA. Different than the typical "citrus burst" West Coast IPA. Pours light copper color- strong white head and solid lacing. Nose of malts, bread, spice, flowers, pepper and some citrus. Taste follows- spice, pepper and pine (maybe juniper?) stand out for me- some floral, herb and citrus notes in the background. Appropriately bitter and resiny in the finish. Medium mouthfeel and carbonation. Mellow and drinkable IPA. Clean flavors of the single hop are a refreshing change, yet still complex enough to be interesting.
3.5 Big o’ bottle. Aroma is earthy. Clear copper/gold. Flavor is piney, lemony, earthy. Medium/full body of malt.
3.3 How: Draught. Where: SBFW 2014. Appearance: Hazy golden colour with a small white head. Aroma: Malt, hops, flora, citrus. Body: Medium body and carbonation. Flavour: Fruit, citrus, hops, floral.
3.5 xcellent appearance including a very good head and lacing. Good complexity for a single hop ale. Controlled bitterness with pleanty of hop flavor. Excellent mouthfeel is crisp and lively with a dry finish
3.2 Cask gravity @ GBBF 2014. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a white head. Has a fruity citrus hoppy aroma. Fruity dry hoppy bitter flavor. Has a fruity malty citrus hoppy bitter finish.
3.5 It poured a golden color with a foamy white head. The aroma was of fruits and citrus hops. The taste was of citrus and herbal hops notes with some fruity undertones and a lightly sweet malt backbone. Very nice.
