Sierra Nevada Harvest Wet Hop IPA - Northern Hemisphere

Sierra Nevada Harvest Wet Hop IPA - Northern Hemisphere

Each fall, hops reach their peak flavor- bursting with aromatic oils that give ales layers of complex flavor and aroma that can only happen at harvest time. For us, fall comes twice a year- once in each hemisphere. This Harvest Ale features "wet" or un-dried whole-cone hops from Yakima, WA that are plucked from the bine and delivered to our brewery within 24 hours of picking.

3.8 Citrus pine aroma in a copper pour. Hop forward balance with resiny body and sustained bitter finish. Fresh hop beers are hard to do well in my experience (too much to go wrong) but Sierra Nevada nailed this one.
3.6 Bottle pour into shaker pint glass from Julio's Liquors. Appearance is gorgeous amber with consistent sparkle, 2-finger width foamy beige head with good retention and decent soapy lacing. Aroma is assertive caramel malt backbone with more subtle notes of citrus, hay, floral and dank earth. Taste is sweet bready malt offset by milder fruit. Palate is light side of light-to-medium with thin, frothy texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste with tail end dry and bitter, but not unpleasantly so. Overall, was expecting a hop bonanza but either the malts were too aggressive in anticipation of the hops or the crop wasn't quite as flavorful as expected. The look is phenomenal but flavor and aroma are fairly average and the palate is a bit waifish.
3.4 Bottle, from City Hops. Pours clear reddish amber with large foamy off-white head, faint caramel-orange peel aroma, adequate carbonation, bitter resinous taste with some caramel, smooth body, long finish. Very smooth, a classic.
4.0 12 oz bottle. 2018 batch. Smells of grapefruit with a bit of lemon. The color is totally not what I expected, it's reddish brown, very clear. This is certainly the darkest color I have seen in an IPA. Taste is very light malt up front, followed by grapefruit, then other citrus flavors, followed by a bit of pine. Refreshing and bitter at the same time. Nice balance of flavors. Very smooth, without the harsh hop bite at the end. Nice mellow citrusy and bitter finish.
4.3 I LOVE fresh/wet hopped beer. It's got the hop flavor without the bitter finish. This is no exception. Very good beer, though I have not seen it since 2016. Anything that is fresh/wet hopped I've got to try, I don't think I've tried anyone that I didn't like.
3.6 Keg at the Merchant, CW, 28/03/18 ... an IPA with 1,900+ rates I'd presumed I'd rated! Golden copper with a decent light beige cap. Nose is caramel malts, freshly cut grass, toasted malts, melon, orange peel, grains. Taste comprises orange pith, grass, biscuit, floral notes, airy malts, candied fruit peel, caramel, light pine. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with balanced hop bitterness. Decent clean drinking IPA with an old skool leaning.
3.7 Keg at the merchant. A Cleer reddy copper coloured pour with a sticky loose off white head. Aroma is nice pollen, floral, jasmine tea, citrus, delicate. Flavour is composed of nic Base malts, semi sweet, delicate floral hop notes, honeysuckle, jasmine tea,. Pasts is semi sweet , highish carbonation higijsh carbonation.. Nice
3.9 Keg at Craft Beer Rising. A clear amber colour with a medium off white head. Aroma of lemon zest, orange marmalade, grapefruit, pine, some caramel, a little toasted malts and slight spicy hops. Taste of grapefruit, orange marmalade, some lemon, pine, resin, slight toasted malts, a little caramel and subtle spicy hops. Medium bodied and an oily texture. A long, dry, piney and citrusy hop bitterness in the finish. Ah the classic American IPA, how I missed you. Fresh in aroma, bold in flavour with citrusy, piney and spicy hops. Caramel and toasted malt backbone too. Lovely.
3.9 @ Havregatan 20180105. Bottle (355 ml) from Systembolaget. Fruity, hoppy and caramely, pine needles and grapefruits, sweet, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is dry, bitter, caramely and hoppy with pine.
3.5 Flaska. Klar bärnstensfärgad med ett smutsvitt skum. Dofter av tallbarr, grapefrukt och röda bär. Smakinslag av tallbarr, karamell, frukt, parfym och malt.
3.7 Bottle from systembolaget. Pours a amber colour beer with a medium head. Fruity and hoppy with notes of caramel and pine. Dry finish.
3.7 2017 version. A clear amber beer with a little bit of white foam that clings to the glass. Fresh hop aromas with resin, citfus fruits and some sweet caramelly maltiness. Sweet flavor with an incredible smooth, lingering hoppy aftertaste that just lasts. Soft carbonation and very interesting slippry oily mouthfeel. Very nice IPA with one of the best hop flavors i've experienced and decent moderate aroma.
3.4 4 finger frothy, off-white head. Clear, deep amber coloured beer. Aroma is caramel, grapefruit, dried fruit, lemon, apricot marmalade, light breadiness, slight yellow raisins and a slight peppery, pilsner-like note. Taste is white floral, grapefruit, dark rye bread, slight roasted malts, pine and lemon. Mouthfeel ls lightly dry with a medium-high bitterness. Low carbonation. Slightly sticky. Overall: Good IPA. Nothing overly exciting these days but certainly pleasant. It felt like a coffee-IPA at times due to the roasted, dark flavours that popped up from time to time.
3.1 Flaska beställd från SB. Bärnstensfärgad med luftigt smutsvitt skum. Doft av barr och karamell. Ganska liknande smaker med bra tryck i beskan.
3.7 Really tasty wet hopped brew. More resinous than most but stil had pretty solid malty backbone and bitter finish.
3.4 Aroma is caramel, fruits, citrus, and other goodies. Taste is bitter, much grapefruit.
3.7 Bottle from Systembolaget. Fantastic color and hoppy taste, would love to repeat
3.3 Lovely amber color, medium sized beige head. Aromas of bread, peanuts(?), citrus, caramel and hay. Light bitter taste with bread, pine and grapefruit.
3.6 From a bottle. Pours clear amber with a frothy beige head. Tastes like pine hops, nutty malt, bitter, and bready. Light/medium body and carbonation. Smells like pine hope, toffee, and bready malt.
3.7 Tap at Before 9. Nose is pine, grapefruit, grass, caramel malt. Clear orange-amber. Very herbal, somewhat grassy, resiny hops, grapefruit, caramel. Crisp flavor. Old school in its caramalts, but good.
3.6 Bottle @ home. Pours an amber liquid with an off white head. Grape fruit, pine, toffee, caramel, bread. Taste is bitter throughout with balancing citrus and caramel sweetness.
3.5 Bra beska. Mycket smak med inslag av citrus. I början lite lågmäld men efter ett par klunkar kom verkligen smaken fram. Skön upplevelse.
3.0 2017 Version. Ar: Mint, marmalade, and sticky caramel; black tea, orange, and black pepper. Ap: Copper and clear; large tan head with spectacular retention, resting in a cloud-like cap of slowly receding foam, leaving trails of lacing along the glass sides. T: Soft orange and toasted caramel up front; black pepper; medium sweetness; medium-high creeping bitterness, with a tannic quality and flavor of black tea; marmalade and orange on the finish with fairly harsh bitters. P: Medium body with medium-high carbonation; fairly soft; medium-dry finish. O: This beer has a lot going for it, but the tannic hop quality is just overwhelming and throws the beer out of balance.
4.0 Moderate hop flavor, bitter grapefruit taste, smooth finish.
1.9 Not a wet hopped beer to me. Beautiful dark golden brown color with good lacing but way to malty to be an IPA. Definitely malt forward instead of hop.
3.6 Delicious drop. Pint in yard house Waikiki. Like a mellow sierra n cars pale but slightly more delicious.
3.8 On tap at Blend Bar & Bistro in Hamilton,NJ. Bright honey gold color. Small creamy beige head. Sweet fruit nose is redolent of pine and peaches. Subtle dry cracker maltiness upfront. Spicy hops in middle, then boozy notes. Mildly Carbonated with devilish, fruity notes in finish. Melon, peach and apricot.
4.2 Beautiful pour - deep color. Fluffy off-white long-lasting head. Hop forward no doubt but so very smooth. Bottled 53 days ago and still full flavored. My first ever Wet Hop SN of any sort. Will be more.
4.4 Clear, copper color . Big , white head . Malt, pine, grapefruit in taste. Perfect combination of fresh hops and malt in taste
3.0 0,3 litre Bottle from Total Wine Laguna Hills . Dark folden, with medium offwhite head. Malt and hops. This version was no Good, The 2015 was real Good!
