Sierra Nevada Hoptimum

Sierra Nevada Hoptimum

A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp (#19) brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put- Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped and torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas.

Hops, hops and more hops are the stars of this big, whole-cone Imperial IPA. Resinous ‘new-school’ and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar and tropical fruit – all culminating in a dry and lasting finish.

3.5 Bottle, 2020 edition, courtesy of pivnizub! Golden brown, mid-sized off-white head. Hoppy nose. Full-bodied, intensive malty flavours, loads of aromatic and very delicious hops, resiny and fruity. Very nice.
4.2 Thick sappy golden orange. More bitter than its 68 IBUs suggest. Big brutal and relentlessly tasty. And I like it that way.
3.5 Härlig doft. Honung? Päron? Alkosöt in masse Smak. Njae.
4.0 Almost clear amber pour with a thick creamy off white head. Bready maltiness up front for aroma. Caramel, pine, fruity hops, orange peel, orange marmalade, honey, candied sugar. Full on bitter sweet, with the bitter everlasting. The body on this one is amazing. I don't know how much malts they have used but this is almost as thick as syrup. Average carbonation. This is superb. Definitely one to have more than once. A million thumbs up.
3.5 35.5cl fles. Helder amber kleur, middelfijne romige witte schuimkraag. De geur is karamel en perzik. Smaak is zoet, licht droog karamel, rijp fruit en perzik. Medium body en veel koolzuur.
3.4 Bottle, Danke Günther! Red amber, offwhite lace. Light sticky berry resin hop nose. Medium body, melanoidin/caramel sticky resin, grass and pine needles, sticking to the palate, burnt cramal under perfumed hops retronasal. Might be a tad too old, but too sweet and sticky in the long run.
3.8 Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. 2020 edition. Aroma is resinous hop with lots of pine resin, caramel malt, ripe fruits, orange marmalade, some floral notes. Pronounced bittersweet flavour. Body is medium to full with a sticky feel. Heavy with a firm resinous hop aroma.
4.1 Aromat żywiczno cytrusowy. W smaku wyraźna słodycz charakterystyczna dla wysokiego ekstraktu. Lekko alkoholowe, ale też z zaznaczoną goryczką, bardzo wyraziste, złożone. Super.
3.4 Bottle.Hazy orange colour with small head.Aroma of dry hops and pine crispy with warming alc dry bitter mouth feels and good nots of hops and alc.
3.3 Pours reddish amber with a thin white head. Aroma of pine, sweet malt. Taste has typical Sierra malt notes, citrus, pine resin, juniper. Palate has resinous, boozy notes. Surprisingly drinkable
3.8 Dark amber colour, fluffy head. Aroma: hops, caramel, bitter orange, pine, ripe fruits. Taste: hops, caramel, sweet toffee, brown sugar, sweet apricot, ripe fruits.
3.6 Bottle. Hoppy and malty aroma and taste, citrus fruit, resin, alcohol, medium to high bitter. Full body, malty and hoppy bitter finish with warming alcohol notes. Ok
4.1 0,33l bottle Parnassos- hazy golden like whisky with a yell head - rich aromas of hops and fruits - thick taste of hops masterpiece
4.4 A too strong tripple IPA
4.4 Ljust bärnstensfärgad, klar. Doft av kåda o tropisk frukt. Mango, ananas, grape o tallkåda ger rejäl sötma, balanserad av kraftig beska mot slutet. Klassisk, tung west-coast IPA.
3.7 On tap at Fakin Craft Fest, Zagreb. Shared with Višnja 666. Clear golden, small lasting off-white head. Moderately hoppy, herbal, spicy, zesty, piney, bready background. Good balance, light bitterness, fruity aroma and nice bready or toasty malty flavour. Tart ripe fruit. Light alcohol. Medium body, soft carbonation, moderate finish. Old school, by the book!
4.0 If you like a good IPA, this triple IPA by Sierra Nevada is rated at 100 IBUs and is truly a great mix of citrus and even cedar notes. I highly recommend.
4.5 I do love a Hoptimum. There is something about IIPA's, they just carry the hops far easier than a regular IPA or a SIPA. Well balanced, nice aroma and firm bitterness but not silly. Doesn't taste like 100 IBU's
3.8 Pivo u flaši. Popijeno u Gourmet Shopu & Tasting Roomu "Pötãman" u Premanturi. Vrlo sladna , voćna i herbalno hmeljna aroma..
4.5 This is a game changer of a DIPA. Very smooth for 10.4% ABV, great complex aroma, great mouthfeel.
3.9 Pours a slightly cloudy, dark golden amber, coppery coloration with a large foamy/creamy head. Smells of biscuity, caramel malt and citrus/tropical fruit, with quite a bit of pine coming through as well. Taste follows the nose, with some sweet, biscuity, caramel malt in the foreground, backed up by quite resinous hops with citrus/tropical notes of grapefruit, mango and pineapple, as well as pine needles. Finishes with a strong bitterness and some citrus and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a rich body and medium carbonation. This held up quite well over 8 months, still feeling quite resinous and bitter, with some good citrus/tropical notes and a strong, sweet malt presence that I have little doubt is present fresh as well though. Would still love to taste this fresh for comparison. Very little booziness to this either, very nice brew.
3.8 Enjoyed on tap with Doctor Hansen at Black Swan, Cph. Beautiful golden, deliciously sweet, yet balanced by the bitterness. Notes of tropical and citric fruits. Slightly cloying at the end.
4.2 Tried making this stretch a little longer....but was SOOO good figured I'd buy another 4-pack soon. One of the better samples I tried this year, and could be my new short-term DIPA of choice. Not super-malty, so mouthfeel about as smooth as it could be. Great balance, but this is more of a hop bomb with extra bitterness. Citrus/grapefruit, piney flavor. Maybe not the best DIPA out there, but could be the most affordable for the quality given.
3.9 Clear, deeper golden colored, medium white frothy head, nice lacing and long lasting. Aroma is of malt and caramel, moderate+ piney, floral and fruity hops, bit orange and alcohol. Taste is medium+ sweet, malt and caramel, medium+ hoppy pine, floral and orange notes, medium+ bitterness, dry finish, bit too boozy with a warming aftertaste. Medium+ bodied, soft carbonation, oily.
5.0 It doesn't get better than this. Massive hops perfectly balanced by massive malt and a hearty AVB. If you're only going to have one beer - this is it.
3.5 On Tap at PreFunk Boise. Clear light amber with a thin fine off-white head. Light slight toasted malts. Just a little color. Smooth hoppy slightly resinous bitter bite. Actually quite subdued. Wouldn't be surprised if this was last years. Balanced and smooth. Surprised at its 10%+
3.6 Yeasty, eggy aroma, with straw & alcohol Clear yellow orange with modest palest yellow head. Favors of straw, alcohol, resin, honey. Good buzz on the palate. Fairly diverse finish, quick warming. Earlier Rating: 4/7/2012 Total Score: 4.1 clear color like yellow blushing amber, slightly off white head. full hop assault on the nose, almost peppery, abundant, first taste goes in so many directions, resin bordering on smoke. grapefruit going over the edge and coming back, alcohol, hints of floral syrup. I feel the traces—resin, alcohol, etc—with the air passing in and out my mouth, 7
3.0 Run of the mill IPA. Nothing stands out to me but will do the trick if it’s the only IPA option left.
5.0 25 Julio 2018. From Decervecitas. In Teku glass. Playing Avadon 3. Nice herbal and citrusy notes above a deliciously sweet malty body, with the high abv well hidden and an adequate bitterness compensating. Avg 4.4 14 Noviembre 2020. En copa Teku. Versión 2020. Jugando a Kathy Rain. Con galletas Tostarica. Birrotus máximos. Potentísimo fondo maltoso, con intensas notas a galleta y un dulzor delicioso que se complementa bien con un marcado amargor de lúpulo con claras notas herbales y mucha resina. Pido otra
3.4 Botlle @ Lost in my fridge. Pours hazy amber with a white light brown head. Aroma of hay, toffee, fruity, light grapefruity, rather dusty. Heavy caramel - creamy body, loads of pine and grapefruit, quite bitter with a light dry finish. Strongale alike
