Sierra Nevada Nooner Session IPA

Sierra Nevada Nooner Session IPA

Nooner IPA is light in body but big in hop aroma and flavor. This session IPA delivers a dose of citrusy and grapefruit hop character from the use of whole-cone American hops.

There is no better way to start a lazy afternoon than with a group of friends and a few beers. Nooner IPA is a session beer that’s light in body yet big in hop flavor. By using intense, whole-cone American hops in our Hop Torpedo we pack this small beer with a hefty hop punch.

3.1 bottle-Friday Night Flights @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear light amber with a white rim head and a star field of lace dots. Taste is light caramel malt that takes a direct hit from carbonation on the swallow, then settles into a finish that includes light floral hops. Heavy on the carbonation. Otherwise, the malt and hops are solid.
3.3 Bottle. Clear, golden body with a frothy, white head. Aroma of toasted grain, raw grain, bread, floral hops, citrus. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. A bit grainy on the nose and in the mouth, but still fairly clean. Easy drinking.
3.4 February 7, 2015. Bottle at Prime Burger, bottled june 25, 2014. Clear amber with a small white head. Aroma is grass, light citrus, pine and some biscuit. Taste is light sweet biscuit, light to medium bitter grassy and piney. Finish is light dry grassy bitterness. Light bodied, average carbonation.
2.9 Bottle. Pours clear yellow with small non-lasting white head. Aroma of citrus fruits, biscuit, pine, hint of pineapple maybe. Taste is light biscuit, pine, lemon. Easy drinking. Ok.
2.9 Sampled at tasting. Pours slightly hazy pale gold with low white head. Aroma with notes of fruit, citrus, bread and zest. Taste is slightly bitter but soon followed by a dank sweet sensation leading to a nicely bitter finish. Too light and too much wash rag feel.
3.1 Sample at a tasting event. Golden body with a medium head. Tropical fruit and pine. Light body.
3.5 Draft. Hazy golden yellow color, medium white head. Aroma of citrus, pineapple, light pine. Taste is bittersweet light lemon. Decent.
3.0 Nooner IPA is a honey golden beer hazy beer with a fine head of small white bubbles. Nose is of pine hops and a decent amount of malts. Taste is crisp and light with a good amount of pine bitters. Body is lively. Pretty much a light IPA. An all around solid, drinkable beer.
3.2 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a clear golden color. The head is three fingers high, eggshell in shade, and very sudsy in texture. Retention is pretty good, too. As the head fades, some minor patches of lacing are left behind. S: It smells much like I’d expect a hoppy ale from SN to smell like - that is to say, it’s loaded with floral, piny hops - but there also seems to be an increased hint of lemongrass compared to others. Malts are faint. Apart from a touch of soap, the aroma is very good in general. T: It’s bitter right from the start, with a strong lemongrass flavor. There are a faint touch of crackery malts to finish it off, and MAYBE a dusting of grapefruit as well. All in all, very simplistic, even for a 4.8% beer. M: This beer is really light - duh - and dry. Since the bitterness is front-loaded on the palate, it doesn’t have a particularly harsh finish. In fact, it’s kind of creamy. It’s not the most effortless drinker, but it feels good in the mouth. O: Not bad. Having said that, it’s rather bland. A truly great session IPA/hoppy blonde can mask its low strength quite well - the only thing this does to betray that is the creamy mouthfeel. Worth a try, but I wouldn’t buy six packs of the stuff.
3.7 From memory, I really enjoyed this, bottle pour to pint glass. Bright citrus and grassiness. I’d like a lot of session IPAs to end up like this. It was definitely drinkable. Not too bitter, definitely well done.
3.4 From cask. Pours clear and golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is peach and slight grapefruity. Peachy, citrusy and crisp hoppy to lingering fruit finish.
3.0 Bottle at home from McHughs Dublin hazy pale amber with nettley dank hops and sherbet. Moderate body and carbonation pithy bitterness dry and herbal, could be past its best or just not designed to be hop forward.
3.6 Bottle from Drinkstore, Dublin [211214] Light amber, slight haze, frothy whit head, good lacing Aroma of grapefruit, citrus zest, lemon, light sweet pale malts Taste of grapefruit, soft lemon, soft light malt background, nice zest, fresh Palate - Soft carb, medium light body, bit oily, soft sweet, light bitter zest. Finish of citrus zest, lemon, clean tail Overall - Good, quaffable, easy-going, sessionable beer
3.5 12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured golden and hazy, nice head and lacing. Aroma of citrus fruit, hops, some grass notes and some malts. Taste is malty, hoppy, lots of citrus notes. Very drinkable and enjoyable.
3.1 12oz bottle. Poured a hazy golden color with an averaged sized head. Grassy with some lighter fruitiness.
3.3 Sample at Örebro Öl & Whisky 2014. Smell of leather, hops and meat brooth. The taste is better with some light hops but no meat brooth. Easy to drink.
3.2 Draft. Very grassy. Light lemon. A touch of malt sweetness. Pretty decent but would like a more aggressive hop profile.
4.1 Light color and nice on a hot day, Still hopped up and classic IPA with some fruit blended in to make a more complex and tasteful result. Great to start at noon.
3.0 Aroma is hoppy and grassy with a light grapefruit sensation. It smells a bit aggressive for the style. The taste is medium sweet, light biscuits with a fruity solid maltbase. It is actually a bit too unpolished for my taste when it comes to a session IPA, but overall it’s a decent one.
3.5 355ml bottle (at 4,8% vol). Pours a medum gold with a white head. Hoppy, citrusy, quite malty aroma, resin, caramel, apricot. Dry, slightly below medium bodied, mid bitterness, balanced CO2. Hoppy, grassy, malty taste, resin, grapefruit, apricot, caramel. Very drinkable, but maybe a bit too close to the standard Pale in both profile and ABV? (2014-11-09)
3.5 Draft at Bearden Beer Market. Gold, with a nice head. Smells...Look, its another session IPA, OK? I like low alcohol, light bodied highly hopped beers, and that’s what this is. They made it, I liked it...
3.6 On tap at The Top in Gainesville. Pours slightly hazy golden with a small fluffy white head. Not a huge aroma here but some nicely floral hop aromatics with a hint of hay and light fruits. Flavor is lightly bitter, crisp, with a nice mix of grass, light citrus, and floral notes, and of course some of that characteristic SN flavor in there that I can’t describe. Light bodied with plus carbonation. Nice beer.
3.6 16 oz draft pours amber with a off white head. Aroma of malts, floral, citrus and toffee. Taste is grapefruit, malts and caramel.
3.7 Translucent medium gold with white foam. Grassy hop aroma. lightly bitter, light body, average carbonation.
3.4 Poured from 12oz bottle a golden clear pour with frothy white head. Aroma was fairly pungent, with a lot of earthiness, pine resin and a balancing note of citrus. Flavour of biscuit, pine, earthiness and light grapefruit zest with a crisp dry lingering bitter finish. Overall decent.
3.8 Draft at the Great British Beer Festival 2014, Day 1 - London. Pours clear gold with a light, creamy white head. Minimalist in character, with lightly dried, biscuity pale malts, melon, grapefruit. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Low bitterness on the finish, well balanced, with ripe citrus, nectarine. Lovely. Very tasty and highly drinkable.
3.5 Pours a hazy yellow colour with a white head. Aroma is malt, light fruit, citrus and light hops. Taste is light sweet leading to a moderate hoppy finish. Great little session IPA.
3.4 Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks DSG. Pours clear yellow with a medium head, aroma of marmalade, spices and hops, flavor is bitter, dry, lemon, medium bodied, nice.
3.5 355 ml bottle bought at CitySuper in New Town Plaza, Shatin. Translucent dull amber honey colour with no yeast sediments; Half finger head and soapy white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Excellent sticky lacing with quite fizzy carbonation; Fragrant and light sweet aroma of Ale malt, with strong floral, honey, pineapple, molasses, pine, light cinnamon, lemon and light grass;Light sweet taste of light Ale malt, with detectable roastyness, very light grapefruit, strong molasses notes, pine, strong resin, biscuits, spices, strong lime, strong bitter hops and sharp grass; Light body, thin but quite slick palate; Mouth feel is solid Ale malt base despite being wheat-thinned. Tastable Munich nuttiness and some dark roastyness. Grapefruit is very light, dominated by strong resin and pine, plus sharp Sterling bitterness. Good!... Hoppiness is fragrant floral, pineapple, honey, light spice and citrusy grass in nose. Low grapefruit, strong resin / pine, strong lime and grass in taste. Bitterness is very prominent, maybe a par below those of German Pils but good for a lasting, highly astringent finish; Quite dry after taste, very hoppy and resiny to mouth. Comments: This is a good Session IPA - good 2C’s floral and tropical fruit aroma, light but solid malt base with colourful roastyness, plus good Sterling bitterness and strong Chinook resiny-pine palate. All comes without the heaviness of typical IIPA. A good one to wash down my lunch!
3.1 Bottle at home from mchughs. Pours amber with white head. Citrus, pine notes. Light stripped malt flavour with a bitter finish. Okay session.
