2.6 Bottle sample at a tasting at zvsn’s place. Clear brownish-amber with small off-white head. The aroma is fruity (banana, pear), caramel, notes of honey and a bit syrupy. Slightly sweet flavor, caramel notes, malty, light hoppy bitterness, a bit spicy and a bit grassy. Medium carbonation, medium-bodied.
2.7 Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks DSG. Pours brown to orange with a beige head, aroma of honey, caramel, nuts and chocolate, flavor of caramel, nuts, dried fruits, slightly bitter, medium bodied.
3.2 12oz bottle poured into a shaker glass. Almost clear dark amber / copper color with a minimal beige head. Caramel malt aroma, with candied fruits and light floral hops. Sweet malt, caramel, sugared dough, low bitterness. Medium bodied, quite rich but a bit cloying.
3.4 Nice drinking marzen. Malt, a tad of toast, well balanced. A touch dark colour with lots of lasting foam head.
2.7 Bottle shared at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Clear amber with a beige head. Aroma of caramel, toast, a bit of nuts, a bit of oxidation and a faint hoppy note. Sweet flavor, caramelly, a bit toasty, with a bit of stale cardboard and a bitterish finish. Medium-bodied.
3.5 12oz from the Fall mix 12-pack... Pours a polished deep amber... off white head rises up and sticks around for a while... pretty. Nose is proper toasty/melanoidin maltiness... very clean.. no real flaws.. if anything it seems a tad TOO malty IMO... Very rich. Flavor mirrors the nose with so much maltiness there is almost a molasses element on the very finish.. Body is perhaps a bit heavy for a standard O-fest. Happy I picked up the 12-pack... This one is nice.
3.8 Bottle poured a clear amber hue w/ a medium thick beige head. Moderate to bold sweet malty aroma. Initial flavor is moderate sweet w/ a moderate bitter finish. Tastes are maple, malt, brown sugar, caramel and pine. Medium bodied.
3.5 Draft at shultzy’s over lunch with my research group. Beautiful clear amber pour with creamy dense head. Aroma: bread, toast, light caramel. Taste: malt-driven, moderately sweet, short bready finish, never sticky or overly sweet. Palate: medium- body. Overall: above avg marzen.
3.5 Bottle from bhensonb. Pours amber with a thick beige head and a bread and toffee aroma. There is a medium-bodied smoked malt flavor with a raspy finish. Typical Marzen.
4.1 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours a clear, deep copper with a very thick two finger tan head. Outstanding head retention and lacing that surprised me. The aroma is a little bit metallic but other than that, is really full of caramel sweetness, toast, maple syrup, and a whiff of light pine. The flavor is where this beer really stands out. Light caramel and toast is perfectly balanced with grassy hops with a touch of maple and wood notes. Bitterness is moderate but nicely contrasts with the sweetness from the malt. Overall, for a first crack at an Oktoberfest by Sierra Nevada this one does not disappoint. Would love to see this in sixers.
3.1 12oz bottle thanks to dmac. Poured a clear dark Amber color with a finger of foamy white head. Aroma and taste were much the same. Notes of grain, grass, caramel malt, and light spice.
3.6 Bottle from the brewery shop in Chico. Pours copper with a slight beige head. Aroma is lightly spicy/bready. Med + body. Flavor is pretty malty. Seems to have something like rye spice. Mouth prickle/tingles. Definitely malty, but way drier than seems reasonable. Finishes just mildly sweet, and the thick feel goes well with that. Really much more drinkable than all the relatively tasteless sweet Oktos out there.
2.8 Brown color nice head and lacing. Dry dry dry hops. Toasted bread nutty crisp rye. Slight caramel and toffee but not much. More of a but brown ale. Dry harsh finish ruins this one.
3.3 ~Rich malty bready aroma, sweet, raisin, and toasty ~Dark golden to amberish color with small off white head. ~Sweet malty bready flavor, raisin, toasty, balanced with earthy spicy hop. ~medium bodied with medium CO2, sweet yet hoppy bitter finish. ~Solid Oktoberfest. Enjoyable. Could drink a few of these
3.5 Dark amber, clear, with a little off-white head. Bready, malty aroma. Nice full-flavored Oktoberfest.
3.1 12oz can via fall 12 pack from Spirits Brick. Poured an okay looking orange/amber with a smaller to average sized off white head. Aroma/flavor is lightly spicy, dough, wet nut shells some old rotting citrus. Fuller bodied that fills your mouth, creamy with stronger carbonation. Meh.
3.4 Deep copper appearance with decent head and rings of lacing. Earthy, fruity, bready aroma. Flavor is mild toasted malt, fruit, and nuts. Pleasant and tasty Okto - above average - but they could have amped it up a little.
3.2 Bottle. Pours a clear copper color with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of toffee, caramel, earth, floral hops and some berry notes. The taste is toffee, berries, caramel, bitter hops. Medium bodied.
3.5 12 oz. bottle. Another handsome beer from Sierra Nevada. Watch the dark, heavy lacing fade.A very nice oktoberfest. Brownish amber. Thick head. Tasty caramel and nutty sweetness. With a bready background and aroma. One of the better oktoberfests that I have enjoyed.
3.6 12 oz bottle from the Sierra Nevada Fall Pack, packaged almost 4 months ago, purchased at Biggie Wine & Liquor and poured into my Funkwerks goblet. Deeper amber and clear appearance with an average sized, light tan colored head. Aroma of Munich malts, toffee, light caramel, toasted grains, bready malts, noble hops, light floral notes and a touch of spice. Similar flavor, mild malty sweetness balanced by mild, noble hop bitterness. Average body with a crisp feel and ample carbonation. Overall, a great rendition of the style and quite easy to quaff. An all around winner from SN.
3.0 bottle. deep amber with one finger head. toasty malt with light hops and a dry finish. surprisingly light in flavor overall. average at best.
3.1 This brew pours a ruddy amber with a white, and small but dogged head. The aroma is bready, slightly spicy and mediocre; the taste succeeding is matched almost to a tee. There is little difference between the aroma and the flavor, and the palate helps to support the experience. The carbonation is just right for the beer; the finish, very basic and comfortable. There is nothing amazing here, but nothing that tells me to "run screaming", either. A nice, basic Oktoberfest with a mediocre everything and a brew to fall back on when there is little else available.
3.5 Bottle->shaker. Medium brown/copper with small offwhite head. A: cereal grains, malt, lite hops. T: malt forward, with spice and a touch of hops. More malt depth than most marzens. Pretty good.
3.6 Reddish brown in the glass. Decent taste of toasted rye bread. Aroma is similar to the flavor, dark toasted bread. Overall, very tasty... Thanks Kevin for sharing!
3.1 Nice copper pour, beige cap. Aroma and flavor are bready malts and spicy, herbal hop. Really Drinkable
3.6 Bottle to a pint in SD. Thanks to great neighbor Jeff... Amber brown with beige head. Sweet fresh bread, balanced, smooth, chewy. Very good for the style.
3.0 Bottle: Thanks, Kevin. Semi-clear, red-ish, copper, & ruby tinted body with a beige head that slowly sifts down to a chunky collar, no lacing left behind. Aroma is very, very bready with tons of toasted grains, Munich maltiness, nuts, & a bit of steely toffee. Flavor is more rich & a little deeper with strong notes of date-like dark fruitiness. Again, lots of toasted crackers & bread with lightly sweet, modestly burnt caramel, a dash of cocoa powder, & some metallic yeast notes in the finish. Lingering CaraMunich malts with each sip. Light floral hops come out with about a quarter of the beer left. Whoops? Overall, decent.
3.2 Drank it from the bottle, so I cannot comment on its appearance (ducks head in shame). Aroma is rather malty and bready. Taste is more of the same with just a bit of carmely sweetness, a bit too cloying for me, but not bad.
3.9 Bottle from Wal-Mart: Delicate aroma of caramelized malt with a faint whiff of dunkelweizen like yeast. Poured a dark amber liquid topped with a thin layer of foam. The drink is well balanced and has a mild flavoring of caramel malts and tasting very true to German Marzen style. Really good Oktoberfest just wished it was available in a 12 or 6 pack instead of this variety pack. I really didn’t want to be forced against my will to drink Tumbler again.
3.4 Bottle. The look is a foamy beige head, clear, and copper in color. The smell is dusty, malt, bready, cocoa, biscuit, and grainy sweetness. The taste is sweet, caramel, grain, bread, and dough.
