Sierra Nevada / Oskar Blues Beer Camp CANfusion Rye Bock

Sierra Nevada / Oskar Blues Beer Camp CANfusion Rye Bock

2014 Beer Camp Across America Release.

Our friends at Oskar Blues pioneered great beer in a can and, as mutual members of the canned craft club, this partnership was a perfect fit. CANfusion is a coming together—a fusion, if you will—of flavors from across the spectrum of brewing: spicy rye, tangy wheat and a bright citrusy hop aroma.

Oskar Blues is the granddaddy of canned craft beer. Like us, they have a fun-loving passion for the outdoors and bikes. It was a natural fit for them to adopt cans as a portable, durable way to tote their favorite beer on the trail, and in the process they paved the way for all other craft brewers to follow.

2.9 Can. Amber orange. Strong malty, sort of huskey, grainy, rye. Red caramels, herbs. Quite full bodied, bit sweet malty, but with a bitter dry clean finish. Old leaves, huskey malty. clean. flavourful. But sort of .. harsh. Strange one. Might be old.. the transport.. something, but feels really mediocre, or even sub that. A herb harsh- hoppy bock.
3.5 [Tap] Pours a bright amber color with about an inch of white head on top. Nice rye malt and grassy hop aromas. Flavors of rye, citrus peel, lemongrass, hay, biscuits and floral notes. Mild resinous notes as well. Nice and spicy. Not too sweet. Medium bodied. Tasting notes from 7/2014.
2.7 355 ml can. Pours an amber colour with a small head. Aroma of sweet caramel, rye bread and spiciness. Flavour of grainy malts, heavy caramel sweetness, harsh bitterness and mild spiciness. Light bodied and harsh mouthfeel. Alcohol comes through. Harsh and sweet. Not good.
3.1 355 ml can. Canned 05.03.2014. Pours clear copper color with a small head. Quite sweet fruity aroma with lots of malts and resin. Very sweet flavor also, rye, caramel malts, syrup, sweet fruits and hay. Not very pleasant. 5323
3.5 35,5 cl bottle @ lusikka, canned 03.05.14 Aroma has strong caramel tones, some toffee and fruity hops. Flavour has somewhat aggressive hops with grapefruit, some caramel, sweet malty tones and hints of toffee. Finishes with mint and menthol. Sweet and very American. No signs of bock here, perhaps some maltyness typical to the style though.
3.0 355ml can from Saveur-Biere PKGD 05.03.14 - Pours copper orange with a small head. Aroma of rye, syrup, toffee, caramely malts, hints of resinous hops. Taste is sweet, stuffy and malty with hints of toffee, rye, spices and fruits. Finish is crisp, sweetish and stuffy with some rye, syrup, toffee and caramel. Sweet, stuffy and malty, not very fresh anymore.
3.8 Mahogany pour with a light beige head. Aroma is spicy rye, fruity hops. Taste is a great balance of the spicy rye and the fruity hops. 7% alc. hidden behind this tasty treat. Little lacing- all taste.
3.7 Spicy (peppery) aroma of rye and light citrusy hops. Golden color, hazy, with a copper tone to it and a frothy ivory-colored head that slowly collapses. Flavor is slightly sweet at first and then it transitions to a drier, citrusy bitterness in the finish; the bitterness level isn’t very high, but it seems to be the appropriate level to accompany the rye and wheat malt flavors and moderate sweetness; the rye is nicely showcased in this beer with just a kiss of citrusy hops. The alcohol is surprisingly well tucked away somewhere in the background. Medium-bodied, good texture that seems heavy and slightly slick at the same time. Overall, this beer is quite balanced and very drinkable. It definitely presents the rye well is very tasty and smooth for a light bock. It’s well-crafted and I’d like more, but having said that, I don’t know how I’d feel about this beer after a 6-pack of it. I’m on the fence, but leaning towards really liking it...
3.7 Poured amber in color with a thick white head. Spicy rye aroma with flavors of rye, caramel, and soggy bread. Love a good beer in a can.
3.6 January 11, 2015. Can at home, canned june 3, 2014. Clear dark golden with a large frothy white head. Aroma is sweet dried fruits, spicy rye, orange and sweet malt. Taste is sweet dried fruits, orange notes very light bitter. Finish is sweet dried fruits, oranges and spicy rye. Medium smooth bodied, soft carbonation.
3.4 Huge rye aroma. Some spice as well. Taste again is huge rye, caramel, bread, grainy. Medium body.
3.4 Amber with an off white head. Aroma is dried fruit, yeast, rye, light alcohol. Taste is heavy rye, mild alcohol, nice hop background. Good stuff.
3.4 Pours bright amber/orange with an off-white head. Aroma is floral, sweet orange, pepper, caramel, and slight toast. Taste is canned mandarin, orange jell-o, a hint of pepper spiciness, some bread, and light bitterness. Nice creamy mouthfeel, medium body.
3.3 Draft. Amber beer with a cream head. Malt and light citrus aroma. Malt and caramel flavor with light fruitiness and light spice. Medium bodied. Malt and caramel linger with light fruitiness.
3.4 Pours out a moderate amber color with a small white head. Aroma is of grainy bread, some sweet caramel, light grassy hops and some citrus zest. Taste is rye grain, sweet cereal, honey, wheat toast, dough, mild lingering bitterness there to remind you there are some hops in there. eh...
3.9 Gold/amber pour with creamy white head and lace. Large malt with a nice floral hop presence on the nose. Flavor is sweet malt with a good finishing bitter. Slightly fizzy but still nice. NB
3.5 Sampled on 12/24/14. This dopplebock pours a dark amber orange color from a 12oz can. Large sized off white foamy head with good retention and long lasting lacing. The aroma is bready, fruity and sweet, with some chocolate. Medium bodied dopplebock. The malts are bready and sweet, some semi-sweet chocolate and some rye spiciness. The hops are herbal and earthy. Decent carbonation. Nice balance, rye kind of balances the malt sweetness. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
3.9 Golden color with a relatively thick white head. Aroma is light, sharp rye with just a touch of bread. Flavor is sharp rye bread with a light malt body. Fairly refreshing for a bock. Wife:3.8
3.8 Hazy orange with a thin white head. Spicy hop aroma. But sweet piney and wheaty medium bodied
3.7 Can from Hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. This is a handsome clear amber with a nice foamy beige head. A rye aroma. The flavor is nice and fairly complicated. A lot of tasty fruit that includes tropical varieties. A little pine. Wheat flavor is noted and it also adds smoothness. Finish is a nice rye bite and that fruit never left. Perhaps a bit of honeysuckle in the after taste. The hops and rye carry this and it is not your traditional Bock.
3.9 Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. From the Beer Camp Across America 12-pack. Pours a clear dark copper with a beige head. Good lacing. Nose is citrus, pine and rye. Medium plus body. Smooth in the palate. Flavor is very rich with rich malts including wheat, rye, citrus, tropical fruit, and some flavorful hops. The finish is fruity and hoppy and not very bitter. Kind of like a bock with fruit and rye. Really tasty and nice to drink. A real winner.
3.4 12 oz can. Amber orange with an average off-white head. Aroma is of rye, heavy malt, nuts, and toast. Taste is of rye, pepper, malt, toast, and herbal hops.
3.3 Bottle. The look is clear, off white head, and Amber in color. The smell is rye, cracker, malt, bread, and caramel. The taste is pine, hops, malt, spice, and rye. Some fruit as it warms.
3.5 Can: Poured a copper orange red with a huge almost glass over flowing off white head. Head was creamy topped yet dissipated bubbles and laced the glass. Aroma was fresh cut grass, citrus, and spice. Taste was nice veggie garden up front and metallic hops that mellowed into a dry malty finish.
3.1 Draft at Kalamazoo Beer Exchange. Pours light brown with a half inch of khaki foam. Leaves a lot of lacing in the glass. There’s some solid rye notes on the nose. A bit subdued for my tastes on the tongue. Finished clean.
3.9 Can. Pours a clear copper orange with a thick tanned beige head. Big sticky melon and papaya on the nose. Gorgeous. Medium bodied, sweet and malty with more tropical fruit coming in. Picks up a touch of warmth and some sticky toffee malt. Very subdued finish with a bit of lingering tropical fruit and a touch of spicy rye, but not a huge bitterness. Really well done.
3.9 Dark golden color with a medium sized, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of toast, rye, pine, and light citrus. Taste of spicy rye, caramel, toast, light citrus, dry finish, chewy.
3.3 Can thanks to sonnycheeba. Pours an amber with off white head. Aroma and taste is overly sweet with some rye bite.
