Sierra Nevada Otra Vez - Cactus & Grapefruit

Sierra Nevada Otra Vez - Cactus & Grapefruit

Note: Replaced in the regular lineup by the Lime & Agave version in early 2018. Still appears as a special.

Otra Vez means “another time,” and for Sierra Nevada that time is early California when beers were made from local ingredients. The brewery trialed various native produce searching for great flavors. Prickly pear cactus flourishes in the state’s arid deserts, and grapefruit fills the Central Valley’s flats. Together their fruity-tangy blend makes Otra Vez, whose tartness is true to the gose style, pop with character.

3.3 Bottle, Beer52. Light golden colour. Interesting one, lightly salty, hint of tart and herbal, quite easy drinking. I think it would be good with Mexican food.
2.5 Clear, watery yellow colored, weak white non lasting small head. Aroma is quite weak, bit salty, cactus, herbal, some coriander, bit soury. Taste is salty, some malt, bit bready, coriander, cactus, herbal, bit soury, bit lemony. Light bodied, soft carbonation, very watery.
3.1 Bottle: Pale golden, hazy, no head to speak of: mild to moderate sourish-fruity nose, with a very delicate grapefruity tardiness and - presumably - traces of coriander; mild to moderate sourish-sweetish flavour with a faint bitter-tart impression, soft, hardly medium bodied; lingering sourish-bitter finish with a balancing fruity sweetness in the aftertaste. Good winter-warmer...
3.0 From 2d2dspuma. In Teku glass. Playing Life is Strange Before the Storm. Lemony tart, yet not so much that displeases. Light lemony notes. Maybe some vegetal notes that could be the cacti but that doesnt give it enough interest
3.8 Found in bottle in variety pack. Simply unique but in a very good way. Overall enjoyable in any season and goes surprisingly well with a traditional Thanksgiving meal. I know that sounds odd but I recommend that experience.

3.7 Smells of the West Coast. Like, literally, it makes me think of any random beach in California, in a good way. Good aroma, although I hoped for something a bit more intense. Taste could be more tart, it's quite average for a Gose. Light body, high carbonation... If only it was a bit more 'extra'. Still a good one, though.
2.6 Botella 33cl. Bueno, curiosa. Salado-acidilla con final ligeramente cítrico. Veraniega.

3.8 Śliczna etykieta, kiepska piana. W aromacie charakterystyczna nuta gose: słód, sól, kwasek cytrynowy, kaktus. W smaku mocny kaktus, nieco słodu, kwasek cytrynowy, grejpfruty. Goryczka niska, z posmakiem "białego" z grejpfruta. Orzeźwiające, jest dokładnie tym co obiecuje nazwa i skład.
3.4 Pale yellow color medium white head. Citrus aroma. Citrus, grapefruit, coriander, apple juice, light body, tart finish. Nice!
2.9 Sharp, fruity, refreshing. Not a style I'm familiar with, maybe too fizzy for me, drinks like a cider, Apple and pear with grapefruit. Didn't get the coriander kick. Pretty, orangey straw colour, very clear, no real head. Ok.

3.8 Refreshing tart and sour gose flavor. Some citrus and grapefruit aftertaste.
3.6 Pours a slightly hazy light golden colour with minimal head retention. Aromas suggest a slightly tart beer, hints of fruit. Taste has the classic gose flavours of salt, coriander, a nice refreshing tartness alongside hints of citrus fruits including grapefruit. Really nice refreshing beer. Definitely an acquired taste, but a style that I really like from time to time - and as always Sierra Nevada have delivered a great tasting beer.
