Sierra Nevada / The Bruery Beer Camp Raspberry Sundae Ale

Sierra Nevada / The Bruery Beer Camp Raspberry Sundae Ale

Together we’re brewing a riff on the flavors of the classic raspberry ice cream sundae. This beer features raspberry, cocoa and vanilla, in addition to lactose (an unfermentable sugar) that adds a richness and a sweetness, helping to blend and meld the flavors of this ultra-complex beer together. It’s been a true pleasure to work with artists at The Bruery using ingredients and techniques outside of our normal wheelhouse.

3.4 12oz bottle from the Beer Camp set. Clear amber with a thin off-white head. Creme soda, berries, sweet cocoa. Medium carb, medium body. Sweet vanilla finish. Dessert?
3.8 12 ounce bottle poured to tulip glass Sight: dark dull amber, small tan foam that lingers, some lacing Aroma: not a lot, malty aroma Taste: low bitterness, some sweetness, bit sour almost not noticeable Mouth feel: good carbonation, sticky, good finish, good aftertaste Overall: Very good beer, very good fruit beer
2.8 12 ounce bottle. The beer is a clear gold with a white head of foam. The aroma has a lot of fruity flavors. Raspberry notes are prevalent. However the vanilla and chocolate aspects are all but missing. Dull and lifeless. Seems like they just made a raspberry golden ale. Nothing really all that special with this one unfortunately.
3.3 12oz bottle from the mixpack. Held off on this one from the mix pack because it just sounded like a gross combo of flavors for a beer. As it turns out it was definitely my least favorite from the box but was much better than expected. Not really my thing but not bad.
3.4 12oz bottle from the Beer Camp pack picked up at Brook Falls Discount. Amber copper pour with a bit of an off-white head leaving some lacing. Aroma has berries and light cream, with some sweet malt. Taste is of sweet light malts, tangy berries, some lactose. The blend does not come together too well leaving a sourness. Medium bodied with little alcohol presence. Finishes sweetly tangy. Shrug? Raspberry can be really good in a mix, sadly this one is not the best way to utilize it. 12.9
3.3 Pours hazy copper with white head. Aroma of raspberries, chocolate and vanilla. Taste is heavy sweet and light bitter.
3.2 Sample during the "Collaboration Beers On Deck 2!" event on 08/13/2017. Clear deep golden-copper color with a medium pinkish-white head that evaporates quickly to a wispy film. Spotty lacing. Aroma of raspberry, vanilla and cocoa. Medium body with flavors of raspberry, chocolate milk and vanilla. The finish is raspberry and vanilla extract. Slightly above average overall.
3.3 It pours copper with pink tinges. It has moderate head retention. It has aromas that are tart, raspberry with a hint of dryness to it. There is low vanilla notes as well. The flavors are raspberry with tartness and low notes of vanilla and floral. It has a dry aftertaste and a bitter bite to it. It has moderate carbonation. Overall the flavors work well together, but the bite on the palate doesn't work for me.
3.6 Bottle. Sweet raspberry aroma with notes of chocolate, vanilla and some lactose sugar. Pours clear amber colored with a thin white head that has little retention but good lacing. Starts with raspberry sweetness and some lactose sugary notes. Finishes smooth with chocolate malt and some vanilla notes. Pretty interesting and full of raspberry flavor.
2.3 12oz bottle. Pours hazy copper with a small off-white head. Aroma is raspberry, yeast, and a faint trace of vanilla. Taste is lactose followed by ashy cocoa, some metal, sweet artificial raspberry jam, grain, and rancid yeast. Finish is unpleasant - sweet and yeasty with a little vanilla. Medium body. Medium carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel - a little on the thin side.
3.1 Bottle poured a clear orange amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of raspberry, vanilla and bread. Palate was light bodied and smooth. Flavors of cake, raspberry and vanilla with a smooth lingering raspberry vanilla finish.
2.4 Bottle. A- Cocoa, artificial, fruity. A- Copper color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Artificial, sweet, lactose, malty. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, bland finish. O- Don't know how exactly to describe this one. Not a fan. Fake fruity taste and a bit of a mess.
2.2 355ml bottle. Honeyed amber pour. Aroma is toasted grain, cloying smell, some raspberry, this smells utterly underwhelming. Falvor is nutty with some green bean and raspberry. Severely underwhelming.
3.2 Amber pour. Aroma is flat raspberry. Flavor is light sour berries with a flat bitter finish. Just not my cup of tea I guess
3.1 Pours opaque light brown with a white creamy head that doesnt hold well but leaves ample lacing; vanilla and sherbet ice cream on the nose; carbonated mouthfeel with a creamy finish.
3.0 Bottle from the box set. Red-orange-brown with a medium, fine head. Almost clear. Nose is raspberry jam, cocoa, vanilla. A bit fake. Corn, grains. Flavor is sweet jammy raspberry with vanilla and cacao nubs. Unrefined, sweet. Strange, slightly husky finish. Doesn't really work.
3.2 Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Aroma is super raspberry forward with some medium light vanilla notes. Light lactose notes and hints of grain. Pours a somewhat hazy copper color with red hues and a medium sized, thick, white head that recedes to a thin film that lingers thicker on the edges. No lacing and faint legs. Flavor is odd. Fairly sweet with lots of creamy lactose and vanilla notes. Raspberry notes are a bit lighter. Faint bitterness. A bit more raspberry in the finish with some lingering malt notes that kind of clash with all the lactose and vanilla. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low, but present alcohol warmth. Overall, this is a weird beer. The aroma is alright, but the flavor isn't great. The malt profile kind of clashes with the bright creamsicle and raspberry notes.
3.0 Bottle shared by Jack, thanks! Pours a clear deep gold with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has sweet raspberry with sweet grains and a bit of vanilla underlying. Flavor has sweet raspberry with some vanilla and sweet grains supporting.
2.9 Bottle from the Sierra Nevada mixed pack. Deep brown with a small pour. Sort of a strange beer that drinks very seeet and flabby. Raspberry could. Nutty. Malt. Brown sugar. Sort of hot.
2.8 Bottle: Cloudy amber with a thin tan head. Raspberry, cream aroma. Taste is as advertised....definitely sundae-like....but followed by a rather rough texture and alcohol note. Nice scent, but it didn't do much more for me beyond that.
2.8 Part of the sampler. Clear garnet with pinkish white head. Raspberry takes an artificial flavor and there is a sweet cloying aspect to this beer.
3.8 12 ounce bottle. Orange copper color. Moderate frothy beige head. Sweet, fruity malt nose. Hints of coco and red berries. Flavor follows nose with notes of cocoa and vanilla. Creamy mouthfeel. Sticky malt finish. Quite unique.
2.8 Can sample at a tasting at troubles’ place. Thanks troubles. Clear gold, white foam. Tarty, rose water and some raspberry aroma with a little bit of vanilla extract. Sweet and fruity taste, faintly alcoholic. Medium body, soft fizz, slightly alcoholic finish.
3.0 Bottle, Ann Arbor, MI. Rosey iced tea appearance. Malty berry aroma. Bright hops with cherry flavor. Alcohol and yeast finish.
3.4 Bottle. Amber-brown beer with a dark cream head. Raspberry and light malt aroma. Raspberry and lactose flavor with light malt and light cocoa. Medium bodied. Raspberry and lactose lingers with cocoa.
3.0 Bottle from Facebook in Menlo Park, CA. Aroma is raspberry syrup, vanilla, milk chocolate. Taste is natural raspberry syrup, vanilla, cocoa, slightly vegetal. Wasn’t a fan of the raspberry / vanilla notes here.
4.1 Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a clear dark amber color with a small white head. The aroma is tart raspberry. The taste follows the nose.
3.0 Pours a murky copper, lovely contrast to the vivid white head. Aroma is really sherbet, wood and a certain barleywine quality. Falls a little short on the tongue initially, just slides down smoothly without much distinction... But you will find berries, grape, butterscotch, and traces of cocoa before all is said and done.
3.8 Aroma: malt and raspberry. Not intensive Taste: full bodied beer with dominant malty taste. Notes of spices and bread. Raspberries in the aftertaste. Extremely drinkable without any hints of alcohol.
4.2 Raspberry Sundae Ale has a thick, foamy, ivory head, which does not hang around, a hazy, sediment filled, orange-copper appearance, with some glass lacing. Aroma is of faint fruit and brown bread, and the flavor is of those elements, with some background spice and a bit of cream. Mouthfeel is creamy and medium to heavy, and Raspberry Sundae Ale finishes semi-dry. RJT
