Silenrieux Sara Brune (Biologique)

Silenrieux Sara Brune (Biologique)

SARA has a dark red-brown color, is well hopped, and spicy at the same time. It has a hearty exclusive special taste with sour undertones, accentuated by a very rich aroma, which both come from the buckwheat.

DISCLAIMER: this is the brown, organic (biologique) version of Sara. Note that all versions of Sara are organic, also if it isn’t mentioned on the bottle.

3.1 Bottle, colour between golden and light brown. Huge head, lasting quite a while. Toffee, malt attack, sour ending, overall a nice beer.
3.2 From a big bottle with my name on it. Six or seven years old. Pours clear dark/medium brown with no head. Tastes like light raisin, apple cider, and wood, pretty tart. Visible sediment. Low/medium body and carbonation. Smells slightly sweet and tart, like cherries and dried fruit.
3.1 Bottle thanks to snoworsummer. Pours dark brown with creamy off-white head. Aroma is cereal and toasted malts, figs, dates, buckwheat, light tobacco, floral notes, and some spice. Flavor is dry malts, dark fruit esters, faint hop bitterness, and some wheat; dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation.
3.0 Bottle shared by snoworsummer. Pours clear dark brown with a small, fizzy off-white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is toast and cookie malt, dates, earthy hops and cellar notes. Flavor is malt dominant with faint hops and bitterness, earthy notes and a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation.
2.7 beige head that disappears fast and completely with lacing. cola clear colour. aroma of detergent, artificial lime, esters and some pear perhaps. taste is sour (like infected), white pepper but not spicy, esters and dark fruit. thin mouthfeel and quite a lot of carbonation. slight gusher after opening even though the beer was well chilled. has some elements that remind a bit of a rocherfort 8, although diluted. bottle 25 cl / best before 2015
2.0 Dark ruby color with 1 finger head. Aroma of vinegar and dough. Taste is light sour and metalic. Light body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation. I don’t like this one
3.5 Aroma is candy sweetness, a unique nuttiness and grainy malts. The flavor is fruit/berries, mild candy sweetness, mild stickiness and a tart/slightly sour finish.
3.3 pours dark reddish brown with low light latte colored head Aromas of??? Cherries, perfume, wee bit stale, overall intense sweetness Taste is better than aromas. Cherries once again, low carbonation, low to medium bodied, low bitterness. Wee bit watery and quite abrupt ending.
2.7 Clear dark brown beer, purple hue, white head. Aroma of caramel, cereal, sugar, candy and bubblegum. Sweet flavour, malty, grains, fresh sour touch. Sweet finish, light buckwheat touch. Was expecting more pronounced buckwheat in aroma and flavour. It is quite drinkable though, albeit not really special imho. (33cL bottle @ Belgisch Biercafé Boudewijn)
2.3 28/X/12 - 25cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BBE: 2014 (2012-1206) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the beer! Clear purple brown beer, small aery off-white to beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: floral, spicy, some citrus, fruity, dried fruits. MF: ok carbon, light to medium body. Taste: pretty sour start, some vinegar, sour red berries, pretty spicy, some honey. Aftertaste: red berries, sour, bit infected, honey, earthy.
3.2 250ml bottle. Clear reddish brown colour with average to huge, firm, frothy, moderately lacing, off-white head. Dry, sourish and fruity aroma, notes of cherry, raspberry and redcurrant. Taste is dry, sourish, decent fruit notes, a touch of leather.
2.8 Bottle from Belgisk Bryg. Clear brown colour with a big biege head. Aroma and flavour of yeast, caramel, grain with a sour finish.
3.2 750ml bottle - pours dark ruby red with quickly diminishing beige head. Nose is malty (caramel and grain) and a bit spicy. It almost smells like port. Flavor is hoppy (herbs and resin), soggy wheat bread, toasty and a bit like dough with noticeable alcohol. Burpy. Taste is sweet becoming quickly bitter and a little sour. Aftertaste is apples or cherries. Don’t like the graininess. Texture is watery with a bit stickiness. Needs to be paired with fruity pies.
2.6 Mahognyfärgad öl med ljusbrunt livligt skum. Doftar inte speciellt mycket. Någon alkoholsötma och antydning av kryddighet. Tråkigheten går igen i smaken. Inga fel, men inget kul.
2.4 Eh. Not a lot going for it; semisweet, bready, with a slight bit of toffee and fruit, maybe the faintest glimmerings of sourness on the finish? Could be the La Folie I drank last week still lingering. Looks good, smells dull, and pretty much underwhelms all around. Good thing it was free.
3.3 Bottle, pours a dark brown color with a small tan head. Nice lacing. Very thin mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Nose is dough, bread, grain, very earthy. Taste is mostly the same. Not my favorite beer, but nicely done.
3.2 Ett mörkt syrligt och lite sött veteöl med toner av jordgubb och jäst. Inte så illa som det låter.
3.5 FIRST rating of anything from this brewery, and also my first buckwheat ale. I just loves buckwheat! Seriously, I cook it a lot, so I had high hopes for this Sara. Frothy brown pour. Yeasty, grainy, brown ale like aroma, with some malty sweetness to it. The taste is tangy and softly sweet, with a bit of poppy seed cake flavor. It is a touch thin and there might be a little wild yeast - very pleasant on a hot night. Interesting release.
Aromenmischmasch ohne Harmonie. Test vom 14.10.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 12,8,8,7,12,7 - 8,05
3.3 Bottle shared by DalzAle thanks Greg! pour is brown and clear with a tight kahki head that fades to a film. Aroma comes off with a grape wine scent and a little sour. Taste is more the same wine grapes and malt and yeast. Palate is thin and slick with a dry finish.
3.1 Bottle. Dark black pour, plenty of carbonation and an aroma of grapes. Flavor is also effervescent welch’s grape juice, slightly sour and not much else. Decent beer, but pretty one dimensional.
2.8 Dark brown colored with little light brown head. Grainy aroma with chocolate and sweetness, some dark fruity plummy note here as well. Medium bodied, carbonated palate. Flavor is more watery with lemon, grains and some cardboard, aftertaste has thin plum, with lasting carbonation.
2.9 Bottle. Hazy red brown color with big light brown head. Good looking! Sweet aroma with apples and malt. taste of malt, hay and some hops. Some spices, but not as much as I expected.
3.2 tasting on 3/19/11. deep red pour with no head. sweet dark fruit nose with light sherry notes. medium body with sweet fruits, raisins, dates, and grapes. the finish falls short - but sweet.
3.4 Taster from bottle. Finally, my last of 39 ratings from the Glunz Beer Expo, April 2010! I’ve got the bottom of the bottle in my sampler, so it’s very hazy, maybe just from yeast at the bottom. Brownish, very thin ring of foam. Nice malty, and yes a buckwheat smell. Tastes like a brown ale. some sourness to it. Possibly some honey and Brett in the mix. Spicy. Pretty hearty. A lot of ale fruitiness but not estery.
3.5 750ml bottle from 16th St. Liquor in West Vancouver. Pours a cloudy caramel colour with a thin creamy white head. Aroma of crème brulée, buckwheat and yeast. The flavour is the same, crème brulée, buckwheat and yeast. The body is light with a creamy texture and lively carbonation. Finishes well and tastes slightly boozier than the 6% alcohol. Pretty good.
3.1 Sampled at GCBF ’10, pours cloudy reddish brown. Aroma of grains and caramel malts. Flavour is more dominated by the grains, with wheat and some dark malt. Better than the regular Sara.
