3.8Pours a deep black with a thin beige head that fades somewhat fast but settle into a small rim that doesn’t give much lacing. Aroma is roasty and sweet, coffee grinds over a milk chocolate base. The roastiness borders on "ashy" but it isn’t. Taste is quite sweet and loaded with dark chocolate and vanilla impressions. Body is full, carbonation a touch too high for my liking. Overall a nice imperial stout, I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I am doing now,
3.8Thanks to tommy for the bottle as an extra!! She’s a beauty oily, nice tan head, yum. Nice aroma of sweet roasted malts, some hops, and nice licks of coffee. Nice smooth profile, roasted malts, well balanced. Suburb stuff.
4.1Bottle: Thanks Gothgargoyle: Served in a Chouffe glass.
Almost completely black motoroil pour. Medium sized, slowly settling down, brown foamy head on top of a pitch black colored beer.
Aromas of chocolate, grains, some roast, some roasted barley malts and liquorice drenched in alcohol, hay roast, some hops, hont of carbo gass and a sprinkle of coffee.
Flavours of roast, coffee, dark chocolate, bitters, roasted barley malts, light dry, hay roast, some hints of mocha, coffee roast and dark chocolate malt roast. Very nice.
Aftertaste is bitter, dark chocolate, some coffee and dry dark roast.
Low carbo, soft creamy close to silky mouthfeel, full body and a thick creamy texture.well executed.
Now I am gonna get som dark chocolate to get with this beer.
3.7Bottle sample. Dark black body, offwhite head, nice lacing. Dark and roasty. A solid imperial stout.
4.0341ml bottle served in a tulip.
Pours black with a foamy, tan, three finger head that thins to a ring eventually. Very mild lacing around the glass.
Roasty aroma with notes of chocolate and coffee.
Taste is semi-sweet with a good amount of chocolate to start, then coffee at the end. Slightly bitter aftertaste that lingers with a bit of alcohol warmth.
Medium, creamy body. Low carbonation.
Very nice! Available at most good Dépanneurs. Will pick up again!
2.9This one’s not doing it for me. Pours pitch black with no head or lacing. Not a pretty beer in the glass. Nose is roasted espresso. Aromas are espresso, roasted malt, some limited smoke, and a faint hint of something sour in the finish. Tastes are big bitter from all the roasted aromas, lots of sweet syrupy as well. Mouthfeel is somewhat oily with medium carbonation. Meh.
4.0341ml bottle. A very dark brown body, small chocolatey head, medium retention. Aroma of licorice, wood, dark chocolate, roasted malt, slightly herbal. Taste is light and smooth upfront, with a moderate and sudden bitter wave: cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, light herbal hops. A full oily body, low carbonation. Long coffee bitterness in the aftertaste.
3.7Location: Bottle at Paul’s Blind Impy Stout Tasting, 1/5/13
Aroma: The nose has roasted malts, chocolate, and some earthy notes
Appearance: This one pours a dark brown color with a tan head that leaves some sticky lace
Flavor: The taste is roasted and chocolatey with some earthy and chocolatey bitterness too
Palate: The body is medium-full, it’s a little chewy, and drinks kind of creamy
Overall Impression:
Ovwerall, I thought this was a pretty solid one with a nice feel, some good components, and a nice balancing bitterness. Good stuff.
3.8Bottle at Paul’s tasting. Pours near black with a beige head. Roasted malts, medium sweetness, some light earthy and smoky notes, and faint hints of chocolate. Solid.
3.5bottle @Paul’s Blind Stout tasting-disappearing tan-black that sheets. A-earthy, musty, molasses/cocoa-dk malt. T-earthy, musty, 2nd med malt-toast/cocoa, some fruit.
4.1Bottle. Pours a dense jet black with a large heavy tan head. Sweet chocolate, roast, malt on the nose. Medium to thick bodied, lots of roast, malt, cocoa. Bitter bakers cocoa. Tons of roast, long cocoa and bitterness into the finish. Quite lovely.
3.8Thick black with a short brown head. Aroma is pretty heavy of licorice, with some smokiness and booze. Lots of bitter chocolate and burnt malt. Some dark fruitiness, soy sauce. Pretty decent.
3.5Poured from a 341ml bottle. Appearance is motor oil black, with a small brown head. Head disappears quickly, leaves little to no lacing. Aroma is beautiful medley of hazelnut, vanilla, chocolate and coffee beans. Very nice aroma. Taste is big roasted malt, chocolate malt, black patent, balanced bitterness. Could be a tad sweeter. Sours in the finish, which lasts a good 10 seconds. Leaves a nice bitter aftertaste, like a dark roast coffee or espresso. Good imperial stout. Not as sweet as other examples, so consider this if you prefer a drier stout.
3.7Decent. Smells like booze, roast malt and licorice. Some serious smoke in the aroma as well. Pours black with an initial mocha head. Taste is a little sweet and a little bitter. Some sourness as well. The after sours a bit after 10 seconds or so. Not bad. Bottle from Delires du Terroir.
3.7Bouteille 341ml.
3.8Aroma: Black chocolate with a bit of sugar + bitter coffee beans. Typical stout nose.
Appearance: Black and opaque. Small head, disappearing fast but sticking and leaving a bit of lacing.
Taste: Attack is all coffee supported by full body and oily texture. Notes of sweet chocolate are also showing up and combined with high alcohol are also giving a warm and comforting drinking feel. Finish is all chocolate and bitterness is lifting up all other notes. Coffee and chocolate are very well balanced. Une bonne stout amère, corsée et réconfortante. Très acceptable.
4.3Pours a dark black and cloudy as it’s unfiltered. Has a fizzy head that diminishes quickly but leaves a nice looking ring of lace that will last the during of the beer and stick to the glass.
Smells is sweet with some chocate and vanilla notes. Taste subtle sweet biscuit up front then some roasted malt character and coffee then finishes with some bitterness. Overall a very nice transition from the smell to the end taste.
3.4Bottle 341 ml. Bought at Peluso (Montreal). Served in tulip. Pitch black with creamy brown head, quickly diminishing. No lacing. Aromaroasted malt, chocolate, vanilla. Taste: chocolate, dark fruits, roaste malt and alcohol. Bitter. Some warming alcohol. A bit thin (especially for the style). Dry finish. Good beer, but let’s be honest, there are plenty of other more impressive Imperial Stout...
3.7341ml bottle poured into tulip. Pours opaque black with a minimal head which quickly disappears and fade into one of the finest rings I’ve ever seen. Aroma is strong torrefied malt, dark chocolate, some coffee, and alcohol. Taste is pretty bitter and acidic. I also perceive a very very low sugar content. Mouthfeel is not the best on this one; body is medium-light, texure is only slightly slick, and carbonation soft. Long bitter finish (can still feel some roasted notes in the finish). Overall a good imperial stout, but a bit lacking in the palate area. You can feel a certain alcohol content but still, it managed to "creep up" on me...! Wouldn’t drink more than two in an evening...
3.7- brown black, light brown head.
- roasted malt, chocolate, strong acidic coffee
- really dry and acidic, ashy, bit too dry, grainy malt, medicinal hops.
- after all, this is dry but still balanced, very acidic and bitter
3.9Bottle bonused by biere_froide- thanks again, Yannick! This was my favorite of the bonus beers, easily. Pours an attractive opaque, dark midnight brown with a chocolate brown head. Aroma of coffee, milk and dark chocolate, toasted brown sugar, and nuts- really roasty and robust with a nice sweetness throughout. The flavor isn’t as balanced, with roastted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, tobacco, earth, and burnt toast. Medium-bodied, with a super roasty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Good imperial stout and has the potential to be even better.
3.5Aroma- caramel, roasted notes, chocolate, dark fruits, funk
Appearance- pitch black with no real head present, slight brown hues around the edges of the glass
Taste- nice roasted notes, some chocolate, dark fruits, marshmallow, very smooth and well-blended
Palate- decent body, lasting mouthfeel
Overall- Drinks like a cream stout with huge roasted notes. Good but nothing out of the ordinary. 8% is completely hidden throughout.
3.9Bottle, pours a nice black, aroma is coffee and coco and the flavour is full of roastiness and lots of flavour a really nice body a good smooth finish, overall very enjoyable stuff
