Simpler Times Lager

Simpler Times Lager

There are times when an ice-cold beer fits the bill. This is an easy-drinking brew that’s reliably tasty without being fussy. It’s a straightforward beer with good hop flavor without it being over the top. This speaks of a simpler time when you could order a beer, and they wouldn’t bring you a full menu. They’d just bring a good beer at a good price. Life can be complicated, but your beer does not have to be. Enjoy the taste of Simpler Times.

0.6 Sometimes you might drink a beer and say "this is the worst ever" but maybe you don't entirely mean it. I think I could mean it here. Rough drinking, grainy, weird corn notes, almost sickly sweet. It doesn't get a 0.5 only because I can't truly ding appearance too hard. It was golden, clear, and produced a head.
2.7 Found out of can. Pours a clear gold with short lasting white head. Slightly better than average for the style. Sits oddly heavy for the style.
3.5 The style is malt liqour and not lager? Very light. Crisp. Corny. Sometimes you just want a decent cheap light beer. This works.
3.0 Aroma is Minhas funk and sweetish malts. The flavor is mild Minhas funk, lager yeast and a slightly sweet/grainy finish.
2.8 Can pour into shaker pint glass. Appearance is clear, light orange with decent sparkle, ephemeral white fizzy head and no lacing. Aroma is caramel malts with light Belgian yeast fruity esters. Taste is fruity esters. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with slick texture, lively carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, call me crazy but if you labeled this as a saison, perhaps people would like it more. As a lager/malt liquor it's disappointing to have the esters but if it seemed more intentional it wouldn't seem bad. Make no mistake--no complexity and not strong, but not bad.
2.8 12 oz can at radagast83's new place, thanks Chris! Clear yellow with off-white head. Aromas of malt, corn. Tastes of corn, wheat, malt, caramel. Light body with a dry finish. Decent.
0.7 Probably the worst beer I have ever had, and the only redeeming quality is the price.
2.9 Wow, thanks McNoBoost. Clear yellow with fluffy head. Corn, banana, clove, light malts on the nose. Taste is cloying, corn, banana, and cracker. Not much detection of alcohol. Light mouthful. Overall, not disgusting.
2.2 12 oz. can Poured in a pint glass, yellow with short lived white head, Corn, grass and malt flavors. Light body and average carbonation. A bit of graininess in the middle and a mix of slight alcohol and hops in the finish. Reminds me of cheap Polish mocne lagers.
2.9 Canbthanks to macPoost. Poured into snifter. Light corn aroma. Pale gold. Minimal white head. Taste is inoffensive and bland. Mediocre at best.
2.0 Kind of dirty but not horribly so. Some elements of concrete grinded chewing gum and a little chemical smoke. Simpler Times indeed. Can.
1.2 12oz can pours a pale golden with a large off white head. Big sweet cream corn malt aroma, light Belgian yeast. Sweet corn malt, infection. So gross...
1.7 Pale golden with white head - Malt aroma that has no hops at all - Flavourless malt body that lacks hop and lacks bitterness - This malt finish - This was just very boring
1.1 The only thing this beer has going for it is a 6%+ alcohol content. That’s all.
2.2 Can. Pours a clear yellow with a bubbly white head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grain and corn with a bit of hay underlying. Flavor is similar with corn and sweet grains throughout and a bit of hay backing.
2.3 Can from teddy’s birthday party...nose is malt hay and straw...mouth is sweet malts...ok brew
3.4 From a can with friends at a swim party. Just a cool relaxing beer when you need to chill. Especially for the price
3.0 12 oz can at home, thanks jaryn!. Clear golden with white head. Aroma is malty, slight grain and hay. Taste is pretty sweet, pale malt, grain, hay and slight grass. OK
3.1 Pours a half finger of head on a clear straw body. Aroma is a little cotton candy and caramel. Taste is fairly sweet, though with a good balance from lemon bitterness. Texture is softer. It favors a little sweet, but still nice.
2.2 Can - average size foamy head, clear medium straw color, pretty sweet malt and corn aroma and flavor, fair hop balance, mildly flat finish, ok overall I guess
2.6 12 oz can, Ann Arbor, MI, USA via Trader Joes. Pale gold. No head. Visible carbonation. Bready aroma. Some faint citrus. Sweet, balanced with honey and light white pepper. Medium finish. Given the price and aim of the beer I’d say it’s great.
1.5 Can from Trader Joe’s in Campbell, CA. Aroma is malts, honey, artificial caramels? This is some roof stoof-age and goes fittingly with all things "Pruneyard".
1.2 This is your basic bad beer. Basically. No real taste here, I buy it usually because of how cheap it is, $4 a 6-pack. A pale straw color, no head, medium carbonation. No real sweetness to it, because no real taste to it. Very bland. Corn, hay, grass, ground, mulch, rot, nothing to taste.
0.6 Trader Joe’s getting into the malt liquor business I see. Very sweet, pretty strong alcohol, no balance. Kinda like a malt likka with a bit of that harsh alcohol taste, but the problem here is that with this much sugar and harshness it needs to be stronger to balance that off into a plausible malt liquor. So it’s neither a good swill lager nor a good malt liquor. It’s like when you try for a joke that isn’t that funny to begin with, and then you land it so poorly people get mad at you.
1.3 Another crappy beer by Minhas. I don’t trust Minhas Craft Brewery with any of their beers.
2.7 Surprisingly not bad. Malty; sweet but not overly so; conceals a decent alcohol kick for a PL. Well-made despite being cheap, in short
1.8 Old rating. Yup, macro lager from Trader Joes…exactly what you expect. Something like 50 cents a beer. Corny, stale, some weird off funk. Tasted it with pils…almost exactly the same.
2.5 12oz can from Doug Pours clear dark golden, small white head that dissipates to nothing, no lacing. Aroma is sweet malts, straw and honey. Taste is sour, banana, corn Tastes like a malt liquor without the alcohol. Not terrible, but not very good.
2.8 4 out of a 6 pack brought down to me by my mother in law after a friend left them in her fridge... thanks! Drinking straight from the can, so no clue on the appearance. Aroma is sweet corm. Tastes are toffee, caramel, honey, corn. Not horrific. Everything well balanced. Still a corn front, but would rather drink this over standard macros any day.
1.5 355ml can. Clear golden pour, quickly dissipating white head. Aroma of tutti fruity bubblegum. Flavor is malt liquor with a hint of fruit. Basically malt liquor that isn’t labelled as such
