Siren Calypso Berliner Weisse

Siren Calypso Berliner Weisse

This entry is to record a Siren Calypso where the rater is unable to ascertain the unique hops and name.

Siren Calypso is brewed in separate batches using unique and differing hops.

If you are drinking at a bar these may be listed on the beer board / menu.

If from a can or bottle these are identified by the batch number on the side of the bottle or the bottom of the can .. usually in the form of G (Gyle) then 3 or 4 digits.

You then need to cross check the batch number with the list of batches/hops on the Siren website.

3.5 Can@ Friends/DØE Fiddler. Appearance: pours slightly hazy yellow with ok white soapy head and lacing. aroma/taste: barley, bread, apricot, light Brett, unripe berries, light vinegar, wheat, straw, citrus and tropical fruity notes. palette: strong yeasty aroma, average to light sparkling carbonation, medium body, medium sweetness, balanced by a medium acidity, average duration, dry finish and a watery texture. Overall: nice sour with a tropical twist
3.4 Pours a pale yellow with thin white head and good lacing. Aroma is gooseberry, lemon peel, sherbert, coriander and straw. Taste is sweet with a light sour medium finish. Light, refreshing, but lacks punch.
3.3 Pretty nice refreshing sour, lemony taste
3.1 33 cl, canned. Pours pale cloudy yellow with a large white head. Aroma: Citrus, malt. Zest. Bread. Taste: Medium sweet, notable citric acidity. Citrus. Palate: Light body, below average carbonation. Dry finish. Ok.
3.6 (Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 24 Jan 2020) Pale golden colour, slightly hazy, with frothy white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with lemon, grapefruit and biscuits. Fruity, tart taste with notes of citrus, lemon, grapefruit, gooseberries, grass and a fresh acidity in a finish with low bitterness. Medium body, dry. Tasty and refreshing, with a fresh tartness. Very nice.
3.1 330ml can. Dusted gold with a fine low collar. Nose green apple sharpness, beeswax, lemon curd, lactic. Up top lambic acid tempered (a little) with lemon and pineapple hop suggestions. It’s OK but dominated by uncomplicated sourness.
3.3 Can 330ml at Ruovesi. From K-citymarket Lielahti. BBE 2020-08-21. Pours hazy yellow with white head. Flavor is fresh and fruity, citrus, melon, sour lemon, malts, hops. Medium body, high carbonation, tart finish.
1.5 Niet ons bier
2.6 330ml can, as CALYPSO, DRY-HOPPED SOUR. Poured into an old Schultheiss Berliner Weisse glass bowl; not used it for years! Slight haze to the light golden body, smooth white blanket of foam on top. The nose tells you it's going to be sour, just like the name suggests. Citrus lemon and lime sour in fact. I am not a sour puss, so I struggled to finish the glass, but I manfully did so.
3.7 330 ml can. Good sized white head, nice lacing. Clear pale golden body. Citrus nose, a bit washing up liquid. Flavour is tart lemon, a little grass, lasting tart lemon aftertaste. Light carbonation, soft fizz, dry finish. Tasty sour.
1.0 Way too sour. Overshadows all.
3.7 Fajny chmielowo cytrynowy aromacik, troche granulatowy troche kwiatowy orzezwiajacy. Leciutki, niska goryczka, kwasne wytrawne.
3.8 Lata as "Siren Calypso Berliner Weisse - Dry Hopped Sour". Hazy golden, small white head. Sour indeed an aroma with citrus, lemon and a good exotic fruitiness. Goodd palate. So sour a flavour, very nice, lots of citrus and lemon along with a good fruitiness, so sour, lovely hopped sour brew.
3.1 Minimal off white head left a collar on an unclear lemon coloured still body. Sour citrus, lemon & floral aroma. Medium to thin bodied, sharp on the tongue with a dry back. Citrus, earth, lemon, sour & chalk tastes.
4.1 Klassisk syrlig smag, og som den skal være. Bare ikke min slags øl, bedst om sommeren godt kold.
3.3 Copenhagen 18/11 2019. 33 cl can from Meny, Borups Allé, Frb. F. Yellow tinged can with a Drawing of Calypso withba flowervin her hair and a howling fanges scream in the background. Pours unclear, pale yellow with a small white head. Bubbly. Settles as thin, patchy layer of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer. No Lacing. Aroma is intense, acerbic and very much on the sour side. Tart unripe berries, citrus, vinegar. Quite sharp and aggressive. Light chemical odor. Light carbonation. Thin, watery, lightly tingling texture. Flavor is medium sweet followed by a stronger sourness. Aftertaste is sour and potent. Lingers for a while. Dry finish. Quite on the aggressive and sour side. But both fresh and refreshing if you like it sour.
2.9 Can, from Morrisons. Faintly hazy lemon gold, thin but sustained white head and gentle condition. Grapefruit and pineapple citrus in the nose with some muted grain notes and a suggestion of grassy hops, dry and slightly tart in the mouth with a pronounced grapefruit note and some sweet grain, a hint of lemon develops and there is a little oiliness on the lips, finish is briefly dry with a hint of lemon and grapefruitbut quickly dissipates.
3.7 Nagy, nem túl tartós, hófehér hab, aranysárga szín. Sós, savanykás, búzás, enyhén fűszeres illat. Kissé sós és savanykás, gabonás ízek, enyhén fűszeres vonásokkal. Könnyű, közepesen szénsavas, enyhén keserű. Kellemes, a szokásosnál kissé fűszeresebb berliner weisse.
3.8 Clear yellowish golden. White head, two fingers, decent retention. Soft carbonation visually. Oily texture with soft fizz. Aroma is sour, lemon, sour orange, hoppy -you can feel it's dry hopped, adding more layers to the sour mix-. Taste is the same. It feels like a complex beer, difficult to describe but really satisfying. Medium acidity. Sour finish. Tasty -and tastier if you think of that 4% alcohol-.
3.4 Can, pours pale golden, lemon sherbert taste, tart and sharp. Medium bodied and oily. Soft carbonation.
3.7 Lata @Vivalabirra, Oviedo. 05/10/19 Color amarillo claro corona de espuma blanca aromas cítricos, sabor cítrico herbal, notas ácidas cuerpo ligero.
3.3 Tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours very pale gold with fine white foam. Aroma is citrus, barn, hay, vegetal. Body is average, with moderate carbonation and quite an astringency. Taste is markedly sour. Final is nice and clean.
3.6 Puszka. Lekko mętnawe o jasno żółtym kolorze. Piana biała,zbita o średniej wysokości opada szybko. W aromacie cytrusy,skórka z limonki ,winne akcenty, trochę drożdży. W smaku potężna dawka cytrusow, grejpfruty, cytryny,skórka z limonki, mirabelki, ocet jablkowy , ziarniste nuty i skórka chlebowa w tle. Całkiem spora goryczka na finiszu,średnie wysycenie,świetne do ryby..Moje miało numer warki G1464,którego niestety nie mogłem znaleźć na oficjalnej stronie...
3.2 Gout sour peu profond.
4.1 Bottle from Siren Online. Fizzy, slightly hazy pale amber with a lacy white head. Yeasty lemon sour aroma. Tart lemon sour, light and refreshing. Nice.
3.6 On tap@ Taproom Jungbusch. Sanft trüb hellgelb, weisser dünner Schaum. Fruchtnoten. Frisch. Apfel, Gurke, überreife Mango. Sauer-salziger Antrunk. Kantig. Dann sehr getreidig. Säure hält sich schön. Berliner Weisse mit Charakter.
4.0 Tap at Drapers, Coventry. Such a great fresh berliner weisse that hits the spot.
