This undefinable black brew is part black IPA, part American Stout, but 100% Diesel powered. Robust chocolate and roasted flavors, with thick pine hop flavor and aroma.

3.5Draft to taster. Looks good; a dull black with with light beige head. Smells and tastes solid; dark malt, chocolate and roast with a bit of hops. Solid on the palate. Pretty good.
4.0A: Dark Brown/Blackish Hue, Passes Very Mild Light, Thick Brown Head, Some Lacing
S: Medium Roasted Dark Malts, Mild Black Bread, Mildly Piney
T: Nutty, Dark Mildly Roasted Malts, Mildly Piney
M: Great Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Bitter
Overall, a nice hoppy stout but didn’t like the balance in the mouthfeel.
3.816oz can. Burgundy hued black-brown. Soapy, foamy beige head. Sort of like a Brown IPA. Nice balance between the citrus hops and the brown malt. Not overbearing, the big malts and accompanying ABV are well incorporated. Toffee caramel chocolate. Well done.
3.516oz can to pint glass, dark brown in appearance with large frothy head. Taste is dry roasted malt, chocolate, with some big bitter hops in the finish. Pretty smooth. Not bad.
3.4$2.60 can from Wine Warehouse, CHO. Pours dark brown with an inch of tan head. Smells of chocolate, licorice, and liquor. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, and pine.
3.712oz can. Pours an espresso brown color with a sturdy tan head that falls to a ring. Strong scent of roasted malts, coffee, and chocolate.Taste mimics the aromas with more java and roasted cocoa beans coming through. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy. Very smooth with moderate carbonation.
2.716 oz can. The pour is a dark-ish brown, but way too thin for a stout. Head was humongous, and white, unlike anything I'd expect. The lacing is surprisingly good, but that's about it. The aroma is overly citrusy with hints of roast and chocolate. The taste is almost that of a Black IPA, and not anything stout like that you could think of. The mouth feel is really thin, and overly dry like the IPA. I can't wait to finish this. Damn
3.5Can from The Perfect Pour, Elkridge, MD. I’m tempted to say that Sixpoint does better with sessionable stouts than some of their other main products, after the enjoyable Otis and this solid brew. Thick dark chocolate pour, well frothy and nicely sticky in places. Dry-ish nose of baker’s choc and roasted malts. Mouthfeel isn’t too chewy, but vigorous enough. Dry, earthy finish is pleasing, and complements the richer flavors that shape the core beer. Unpretentious and well done.
3.4Draft @ Coalhouse Pizza in Stamford, CT. A lightly-bodied stout that is unoffensive but nothing to write home about. Notes of coffee, cola, chocolate and oat.
3.7Can. Pours a very dark brown with a moderate tan head on it. Nose is slightly roasty with some surprising floral hoppy elements in there. Taste was slightly bitter, but nicely roasty. A very interesting stout...
3.316 ounce can. Pours a darker brown to black with a beige head. Aroma is grassy and roasty. Tastes fairly bitter. More hoppy than I prefer a stout to be.
4.1THOUGHTS: Imperial stout bitterness in a lighter package. It was nearly a black IPA. It’s definitely still a stout, but if you like black IPAs, you should try it.
TECHNICAL: Can. Poured a very dark brown that was nearly black in the glass with a large, tan head that mostly but slowly diminished leaving excellent lacing. The aroma had moderate roast malt and chocolate milk; moderate pine hops; tobacco; and hints of caramel. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and moderately bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and moderate to heavily bitter with an average to long duration. There was roasted malt, coffee, chocolate milk, bitter chocolate, coffee beans, pine hops and citrus rind hops, tobacco, a little citrus fruit, grapefruit and caramel malt. The medium body was creamy with sort of soft and slightly metallic finish.
3.616 oz can courtesy of Doodler (thanks Scott) poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of roastiness, charcoal, pine, earthiness and light grapefruit. Palate was medium bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, pine and light earthiness with a crisp dry bitter lingering roasty pine finish.
3.5Pretty black but slightly reddish when held up to a bright light, with a decent head and sheets of thin but glass-coating lace.
Smell is more like that of a heavier imperial stout, heavy with syrupy dark fruits, some coffee and chocolate, some molasses and brown sugar, some roasted, some burnt characteristics. The taste somewhat follows but it’s not as strong tasting as it is smelling. I would say that for me the taste is more appealing, actually. It’s more balanced on taste; the aroma is kinda on the too sweet, too much dark fruit side.
Drink wise it’s very nice, a good stout that’s something of a meal, but isn’t overpowering. I am a big fan of stouts in the 6%-ish range, and this one is pretty good. Overall I don’t think it’s world class, but I’d certainly drink it again, and may have to try some of their other beers that I haven’t tried yet.
3.9Simple stout, but good. A bit too bitter for the style, as there is not malt middle to squash it. I love bitter, but this seems almost out of place. That being said, I like it, and I’m sticking with it.
4.0Pours dark opaque brown-black mahogany with large coffee color head, foamy. Aroma- caramel malt and ryeish grass to hay hops. Taste is rye grass hop start, sweet mocha. Middle- smooth, bitter grassy end and long finish. I like the mix of malt and hops. Bitter finish long-lasting.
3.3Solid atout. Drank from can so really can’t talk about the pour or head. Visibly brown from lip if can. Nice hoppy aroma. Almost light enough to call it a black ipa coffee stout. Coffee and hipping come through prediminantly on the palate.
3.7Dark brown, amber hints, thin toffee head. Nose is dark roasted malt, subtle pine and alcohol. Bittersweet in the truest sense. Middle is cacao and pine cones. Bitter, drying, piney hops out the back. Good.
3.5Can. Chocolate malt and piney hops aroma... smells like a black IPA. Black brown with a huge thick, creamy tan head. Chocolate, roasty malt, and subtle piney hops flavor.... tastes like a black IPA. Medium body, soft carbonation. Smells, looks, tastes, and drinks like a black IPA.
4.0Drank from pint can. Delicious, if a little on the light flavored side. Creamy and milky.
3.4Ar: Char, some highly roasted caramel, and earthy hops.
Ap: Black with dark brown highlights on the edges - medium light tan head with good retention and a web of lacing.
T: Dark caramel and raisins - heavy cocoa and char - medium-high bitterness, fairly clean - cherry and molasses, with roast bitterness on the finish.
P: Medium body, with high carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel - finish is dry.
O: A heavily roasted stout - on the dry side, with a big grip of bitterness - solid.
3.72013-04-29. Crisp dark brown black body, nice creamy tan head. 4+ Aroma is roasty but softened somehow, lightly dusty, mild malt undertones. Flavour is interesting, dry roast up front, sweetish malt middle has an interesting quality to it. Sort of nutty fruity herbal melange, pleasantly so. Smooth average plus to medium bodied palate, soft carbonation. 3++ Pretty solid overall. A stout with brown ale leanings? On tap at Farmhouse, Burlington
3.4Can, at home. The aroma is hoppy, pine, coffee, roasted malts. This stout is bracingly bitter, resinous, sprucey - piney, with a bright, slightly acidic finish. Soft and creamy mouthfeel. Good, but a bit too much on the pine.
3.6Pours a very dark brown with a medium, creamy looking tan head. Aroma contains chocolate and vanilla mostly, along with undertones of pine and coffee. The taste is more unusual for this style in the fact that a large amount of pine is noticed right away. I get more chocolate and coffee, and less vanilla. There is quite a bit of caramel in here as well as roasted malts. Medium bodied, creamy in texture, with a higher amount of carbonation that is regularly found in this style. Aftertaste consists of pine, coffee, and chocolate. I enjoyed this. Its a little different with a lot of tasty things going on in here.
3.5The nose has a toasty sweetness about it. Faint dark fruits (plums), chocolate, and pine. Pours a brownish-black with a long lasting khaki head and spotty lacing. The taste is bitter. Roasted/burnt malt, with hints of dried fruit, and hoppy pine bitter finish. Somewhat like a Black IPA. Medium-light body and moderate carbonation. (Would prefer a fuller body.) Smooth mouthfeel. Overall, the taste is not robust, but rather subdued. would drink again. (Taste improves as it gets warmer.)
3.5Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks zvikar. Black, opaque with tan head, phenol, petroleum and vanilla aroma, stoutish taste with roast and some old coffee. Smooth texture, full body, roasty, bitter aftertaste.
3.9Had it out of a big ol can. It seems like more of a black IPA style, very hoppy but with some malt poking through. Pretty good, would get it again.
3.3Bottle shared at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Pours brown to black with a beige head, aroma of moka and hops, flavor of moka and hops with coffee and pine, medium bodied
(17 avril 2013)
3.6Can. Pours a deep, dark brown color with a tan head and some lacing. Aroma is roasty, a little bit of pine hops. Medium on the palate with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, roasty, some bittersweet chocolate, a little hoppy, with a bitter roasty finish.
