3.3Alcohol, even bitterness throughout, burlap, barnyard.
On tap at American Craft Brewery in Boca Raton, Florida
4.2BB 7/12/17. Clear light amber pour with a touch of garnet. World class head volume, lacing and retention.
Very good nose of sweet citrus (orange, mango) with a touch of spicy spruce along with a strong dose of pine. The bready base is slightly sweet with soft caramel undertones. Intensity is a bit lacking, hence the less than outstanding rating. As it warms, light notes of alcohol are present.
Medium body with a nice oily slick texture. The carbonation / body balance is quite outstanding. Mid-palate effervescence is tingly while the finish is finely bubbled and rollicking. The level of effervescence really opens the flavor profile up.
The flavor profile is more complex than suggested by the nose. Overall, it is quite outstanding. The tasty bitterness is surprisingly moderate which has a touch of zest added to the mix of pine and a much more subtle spruce. The middle is moderately sweet and allows the orange and mango to flourish. Hints of pineapple and passion fruit are present. Unfortunately, the alcohol becomes slightly uncovered and delivers the typical astringency and off flavor near the finish. Otherwise, this is a world class offering. The finish lingers and allows zest to shine. As it lingers, grain alcohol becomes evident along with astringency.
3.4Gold pour. Aroma is oxidation and fruity. Flavor is sweet malt and resiny hops. Solid bitter best had fresh I'm sure BB7/17 and I had it 7/26
3.7Can - Origin and light resin notes. Clear gold with a decent white head. Bitter and oily resinous with a sweet sticky caramel finish. Nice bitterness.
3.8Clear Copper gold with foamy white head
Aroma is sweet malty mild vanilla
Flava is rich spicy hop and bitter
Feels medium little fizz
Finishes moderately bitter roasty
4.012 ounce can. Bright honey gold color. Large frothy white head. Nice lacing. Fruity malt nose evokes peach, melon and apple. Big sweeping bittersweet flavor. Pine, berries, resin, stoned fruit, candied orange peel, simple syrup, blue spruce and warming alcohol. Yeah, there’s a lot going on here. A bit too sweet; definitely old school DIPA.
2.7Big boozy citrus hop profile, with the alcohol overpowering everything else
3.7Aromas of fresh squeezed lemons, apple juice, pines, citrus, caramel, leafy, herby hops, melon juice and apricots. Pours copper with almost no foam and mild lacing against the glass. Taste brings fresh bitter hops, juicy tangerine, apricot, mango, peach, leafy, earthy hops upfront. Honey, slick malt syrup, molasses, bright citrus, slight chalky grainy malts, bittersweet honeysuckle and resinous hops comes through mid palate. Finishes bitter yet sweet with plenty of bitter and piney hops. Overall, a very unique IIPA with a lot of flavor and a distinct honey note to it. B+ rating.
3.7Draft. Amber beer with a cream head. Grapefruit and pine aroma. Grapefruit and pine flavor. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and pine lingers with tropical fruit.
2.9Golden amber color, sweet malty, honey on the nose. Sweet caramel start with bitter finish
3.4Lovely nose, full of pine and mango, and pour’s equally striking, a bright, clear gold with a modest head and lots o’ lacing. Taste is...odd, unfortunately, not bad, just a bit curious, big and malty but with a distinct fruit punch vein coursing underneath all the caramel and pine. Tropical fruits--mango and pineapple, mainly--form a modest but firm fruity backbone. Otherwise, Hi-Res could use a little less sweetness; the tiniest bit more caramel and you’re entering barleywine territory.
3.8Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Golden color, clean, with medium head. Delicate aroma of malt and stone fruit. Full bodied, malty, but lean, some toffee but luckily with no caramel; balanced bitterness, the hopping provides some resins, but it’s not very bright.
Solid IIPA, not a modern one beware.
3.4Light bronze. Thin head. Earthy and slightly cheesy aroma. On the palate, a sweetish malt character that shows a touch of caramel. With a bit of crystal malt chewiness, a fair bit of bitterness and some alcohol in the finish as well, this is a bit of an old school IIPA.
3.2355ml can @ Matt’s. Pours a clear copper colour with a tiny white head. Nose is sweet malty with a hop resinous note. Flavour is sweet and boozy with a hop twist that fades to a hop bitterness of the fruity pith variety. I feel this is too boozy for what it’s trying to be. Many others of the style manage to mask the booze quite well.
3.9Big old school, boozy TIPA. Big orange and grapefruit flavours with some spruce and weed. Very straight forward. A clean, hop vehicle. Doesn’t really go anywhere, but gets you your hops.
2.5Smell is Citrusy mostly...taste is a bit more on the flowery side...bitter and flowery mouthfeel/after taste..thick flowery...good with a sip here and there but harder with quick sips...its weird cause it?s good and bad at the same time....good of drink slow...bad if drink fast....had at art bat with john
4.1Pours a clear golden amber color with lots of streaming bubbles. There is a two finger off white head that left some good lacing around the glass. The aroma is orange tangerine peel, pineapple, grapefruit, very tropical and sweet with some dank floral hop resin notes in there as well. The flavor is sweet and citrusy up front but the dank hops and pine resin come through on the back end to even it out. The mouthfeel is medium to full and drinkability is low even though the alcohol doesn’t come through in the flavor much.
3.7From the can with a Best By date of 12 Jul 2017. Attractive amber, heady pour with decent clarity. The aroma has a mixture of sweet pale malts and fruity, floral hops. Also clean. Medium and smooth body. There is an interesting sweetness in the flavor that is quickly overtaken by the pine and bitter hop characters. Lightly lingering at the end.
4.2Got in a BIF from Roguer. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 7/12/2017. Pours fairly crystal clear golden orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of huge tangerine, grapefruit, peach, apricot, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon/orange peel, light pine, honey, caramel, light toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/tropical/fruity hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge tangerine, grapefruit, peach, apricot, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon/orange peel, light pine, honey, caramel, light toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine/citrus peel/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, peach, apricot, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, melon, lemon/orange peel, pine, honey, caramel, biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/fruity hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from lingering bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, bready/grainy/sticky, and lightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Mildly warming for 10.5%, very well hidden ABV. Overall this is an outstanding DIPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/fruity hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV, thanks to the fairly tame bitterness. Very dank/juicy on hops with a sizable malt backbone; but never too sweet or heavy at all. A highly enjoyable offering.
3.8Pours from a tall, thin can a mostly clear copper color with a white foam head that recedes to leave a white film with plenty of lacing. Nose is pine and citrus. Taste is much less boozy than I anticipated (especially reading other feedback). It has got some citrus and pine, but mostly goes to a hop bite - but it is overall pretty mellow. I like it - seems like a well balanced / crafted beer.
3.5Shared tall thin 12 oz. can. Pours clear gold with a white head. Aroma of citrus and grapefruit. Taste is citrus, grapefruit, pine. Hoppy, bitter finish.
3.1Can at home. Thanks Tunga. Pours clear copper, light white head. Aroma is hoppy, earthy, honey and caramel. Faint soapy bitterness in the aroma. Taste is earthy, pine, boozy, honey and toasted malts. Bitter, a bit of alcohol burn present on the palate. Not bad, a bit rough around the edges. The alcohol in this one really shows.
3.3Aroma: piney and hoppy, but not too strong; Appearance: clear golden pour with thin white head that dissipates fairly quickly; Taste: sweeter than expected with lightly bitter finish; Overall: decent but will probably not seek out again.
3.7Can from J’s. Pours a clear, gold with a finger of foam that dissipates quickly. Lots of citrus, grapefruit and sunny delight orange aromas. A little boozy, but as it warms it smooths out a bit. Light bitter finish. Nice stuff.
2.8Tap at Sedona. Pours golden. Aroma of cat piss, pine, citrus. Flavor is heavy pine, alcohol, as in the rubbing kind, citrus, and grape. Yes, grape.
I like to be able to taste beer and not just have the booze overpower it.
4.1Draft - Pours a light amber, eggshell head. Aroma isn’t as big as expected....bready, resin, traces of alcohol and dank. Still pretty inviting overall. The flavor is outstanding! A perfect marriage of dank, fruit, and pine. Very well balanced and addicting.
3.5on tap @ Vino Bellissimo / Lima OH --- Clear, medium-light amber color, ivory head that drops to a cover, lace sheets. Taste is somewhat sweet malt, but it hardly matters. Strong pine hops rush in like a flash flood, obliterating everything. Even for hopheads, this is a strong (but somehow drinkable) brew.
4.1Pours a mostly clear golden with a rich, sticky, white head. Pungent, clean, tangerine, pineapple nose. The pull into the mouth suggests a lighter mouthfeel. Once on the palate, it becomes more obtrusive. The invasiveness of the hop character seems to permeate and invade the taste bud crevices. Very flavorful. Explosive even. Resinous, citrusy, piney, oniony. Very good DIPA.
2.9How: Can.
Where: Systembolaget.
Appearance: Amber colour with an off-white head.
Aroma: Fruit, citrus, alcohol.
Body: Medium body, low to medium carbonation.
Flavour: Fruit, malt, alcohol, citrus.
4.0Ive had this one many times, but recently I got it from the source. I didnt realize they didnt do tours at their Brooklyn location, but they were nice enough to still show me around and even gave me a free pack of this and their resin. Aroma is loaded with hops. Tons of bitter notes and floral hops. Lots of pine and a good balanced maltiness. Taste is bitter with sweet fruit. Subtle booziness to this one as well on the back end.
