It’s Old Man Bitter

A mix of citrus and pine that will remind you of the time you went on a vision quest with your Native American cousin and you woke up in a pine grove full of grapefruit trees.

An American-style India Pale Ale with a deep golden-orange color. Bitter and hoppy, with a surprisingly smooth finish.

Modus Hoperandi, an IPA sitting at 6.8% ABV and 65 IBUs.

3.7 Draft at Fort Street Station. Clear amber with small creamy head. Malty piney aroma. Taste is caramel, juniper, woody. Pretty classic IPA style.
3.5 Crowler. Aroma is grapefruit, pine, weed. Pours mostly clear new penny copper with a large, long-sustaining cream-white head with excellent retention and lace. Taste is highly bitter, moderately sweet, with flavors like the aroma; has a candy sweet malt presence. Not enough carbonation, but that might be a crowler fill issue. Very old school malt flavors and high hop bitterness.
3.9 Picked this up out of curiosity as I spent a year in Durango back in college. A little deeper amber than I would have expected, great pine notes and not overly bitter. I would buy this again.
3.4 Can from Marks and Spencer, Leicester. Srunk at home.ominpusly amber, clear with a reasonably-sized beige head. Big resinous aroma with pine needles and medicinal hop. Tastes bittersweet - more sweet than bitter in fact - followed by an intense bitterness near the end of the sip. Lasting bitterness in the finish. Lightly carbonated, medium to full body. A decent classic American IPA.
3.8 Hoppy and dry
4.0 12 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 3/15/2019. Pours slightly hazy deep golden/orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, melon, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, caramel, cracker, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, melon, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, caramel, cracker, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, apricot, melon, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, caramel, cracker, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, sticky/resinous/rindy, and fairy crisp balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.8%. Overall this is an excellent IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth, easy, and fairly crisp to drink with the moderately bitter/resinous/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Awesome Columbus, Centennial, Cascade profile. Very juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balanced hop complexity; with a nice balancing dark/bready malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness from crisp resin dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive classic tasting Midwest style example.
2.4 Can at home bought from a local supermarket. I was expecting a West coast style it's bitter but doesn't feel like a great beer
3.5 Can, from M&S Oxford. Pours a pale orange gold with a white head. Aroma: pine, orange peel, mild grapefruit, nettles, caramel malt notes. Taste: pine flavour dominates. Mild citrus, grapefruit, bready malt flavours. Medium bodied. Moderate to high bitterness. Easy to drink, and improved when paired with food. The can might not have been the freshest. This beer was nice, but may have been a lot better when fresher.
3.7 355ml can. Amber colour with white head. Big pine resin hops, big dried tropical fruit, grapefruit peel, dried mango, pine resin, light pineapple juice, light blood orange, grassy, light caramel. Nice
3.8 On tap at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours hazy amber with dense off-white head. Aroma of caramel, cookies, raisins. Tastes bitter with some sweetness. Medium bodied, bitter finish.
2.6 10/20 not a bad beer, more not to my taste, dulled citrus hops and bitter finish. it's a bitter and drinkable enough
3.7 Can. Pours deep gold, perfectly clear, huge rocky beige head that lasts. Very lively. Big sweet pine aroma. Taste is well balanced; malty, boozy, juicy hops giving citrus and grass, long bitter finish. Dead nice.
3.9 6th Nov 2018; 355ml can, BB 31st Jul 2019. Poured into an Everards Tiger Best Bitter pint sleeve at home. This beer wanted to get out of the can! It produced a lovely clear amber body with a huge billowing blanket of off-white foam. Nice dank hop aroma and taste, bitter and piney, dry and earthy, spruce and resin like in both the nose and flavours. Interesting and enjoyable.
3.6 Puszka 330ml. Klarowny, opalizujący, miedziany kolor. Piana dość obfita,o białym kolorze i małych pecherzach, opada powoli. W aromacie dużo szyszek i żywicznych nut,mix owoców tropikalnych i cytrusy w tle. Male wysycenie, oleista tekstura.W smaku owoce tropikalne z mango i marakują na czele, sosnowe szyszki, czerwone cytrusy, ice tea, ciastka i karmel. Extra
4.0 Pours a clear copper with a thin white head and good lacing. Aroma is marmalade, wood, apricot and lemon peel. Taste has sweetness with a deep bitter finish. Body is light for the ABV. Beautifully balanced. Tasty stuff, just lacking a little body and punch in aroma.
3.3 Had this a few nights ago so can’t remember all the details. I’m on paternity leave and fancied an IPA. Decent strength, quite dark, but didn’t taste all that strong actually. I could have a couple of these every week. Drank another one just now, good drink but not fantastic. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
4.3 355ml can. Pours clear copper with a tan head. Aroma is biscuit, caramel, treacle, pine, citrus and some stone fruit. Taste is caramel and biscuit malt, then some bitter old school american hops, citrus and pine. Good medium mouth feel, huge on taste and really bitter. Solid traditional West coast Ipa.
4.0 (Tap) clear, bright orange amber colour with a small cream head; aroma of jam, tropical fruit
3.9 Mörkt bärnstensfärgad, nästan klar. Doften domineras av sötman o malten, svag ton av ananas. Smaken relativt söt, fruktig. Kraftig beska balanserar o avslutar. Klassisk kraftig west-coast typ av ipa, som står sig väl.
3.6 Fantastisk när den kom. Nu är den utkonkurrerad.
3.2 Leicht harzig, wenig Frucht, Malz, ziemlich alkoholisch, mittig bitter. Hinten dann waldig, Pinien. Okay.
3.7 Piney hop aroma. This ones got some resin to it. Reddish brown in color. Off-white head. Hoppy, caramel malts, earthy, pine, grassy, and dank.
4.0 Nice, you can drink it repetedly without getting bored. Has a great bitterness.
3.7 19/4/2018. Can at Marquis Cornwallis, Bloomsbury. Pours pale amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of tropical and citrus fruit, hops, toffee, biscuit, pine and grass. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Medium to full bodied, oily texture, average carbonation.
3.8 Aroma piney and rezinous. Flavour is hopped up nicely, with a long bitter piney finish. Overall a good rezinous IPA.
3.8 12oz can pours out a golden amber topped with a sand head. Nose is nice fruit hops a well balanced sweet malt. Tatse is more of the nice hop combo and balanced malt bill.
4.2 Tastes like fig roll. Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.Fig.
4.2 Tasted 2018-01-13. Pours clear amber with off white head. Aroma of sweet bread, pineapple and hops. Very balanced taste leading to a moderately bitter finish.
4.5 Good IPA with a great history. Taste is strong but still desirable. I find myself enjoying this IPA outside on a cooler day.
