3.5 Bottle from Brewdog Online Shop. Pours black with a thin beige head. Aromas of milk chocolate, light roast. Taste is light sweet, faint chocolate, hint of tar. Sweet roasty finish.
3.9 Purchased at College Liquors in Grand Junction, CO; enjoyed on my final night in Fruita, CO while watching Game of Thrones. Appearance is pitch black with a dark tan head. Aroma is rich in dark chocolate, doesn't smell too sweet. Taste is also very rich in dark chocolate, decadent without being too sweet. Nicely done.
3.3 Bottle at Imazato. Nose of soy, cocoa, milk, berries. Flavor is pretty much the same with a touch of coffee. A bit plain and flat but ok.
2.9 Very dark with dark tan head. Aroma of heavy creme and dark chocolate. Dark and somewhat bitter chocolate, milky taste, also acidic. Palate is actually watery rather than thick and creamy. Lefthand is so much better than this. Disappointing.
3.0 Bottle from World Beer Market (Sake no Taniguchi). Light nose of berries, small chocolate bit, even a hint of citrus, and light fumes. Oily black, slick, no lace. Thin chocolatey initial, some dark fruit, berries, and a touch of lactic stuff. Medium body, creamy, and very little carbonation. Nice enough, for what it is. Kind of lifeless.
2.8 Bottle - small foamy head, pitch black color, very sweet malty aroma and flavor, very mild roastiness, fair earthy hops, finish is a little flat, ok overall
3.4 Sweet aroma and flavor, with some bitterness and a hint of souring lactose. Complex, yet lighter than I like in a stout. Ok overall.
3.5 Bottle. A- Cocoa, mocha, sugary, A- Black color, black liquid, light brown head. T- Cocoa, dry, coffee, creamy, medium sweetness. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- For some reason or another I’ve always kind of passed over SKA beers. I think it’s mostly from the cheeky labels that look like a middle schooler would create or a hey our beer sucks but I’ll pull you in with an interesting label kind of thing. Anyways, I digress. This was actually really good. Not a favorite of mine by any means but as far as a sweet stout goes this one felt pretty textbook. Balanced, complexity in it, and all in all well rounded.
3.0 Pours a jet dark black color. Aroma of dark roasted malt. Taste is of burnt malt, with minor sweetness and caramel flavor. Slightly creamy and the milk flavor is evident in the aftertaste. Overall a decent sweet stout that had more stout flavor than sweetness.
3.3 Draught. This is a solid milk stout with deep roasted malts and a nice viscous body.
3.9 Bottle at home. Pours black, nose is roasted malts, chocolate, taste is similar, sweet, creamy.
3.3 How: Bottle. Where: The Bishops Arms Bellmansgatan, Stockholm. Appearance: Black colour with a minimal beige head. Aroma: Sweet malt, lactose, coffee. Body: Medium body and carbonation. Flavour: Lactose, sweet malt, liquorice, some caramel.
3.4 Bottle at Bishops Arms, Bellmansgatan, Stockholm. Thanks to AndySnow. Dark almost black beer with a small beige head. Malty roasted aroma, vinous, licorice, caramel, hazelnuts, vanilla notes. Licorice flavor, caramel, raisins, figs, caramel, hazelnuts, some cocoa.
3.4 12 oz bottle. Pours black with a small khaki head that leaves some spotty lacing. Aroma is cocoa, caramel malt, brown sugar, hint of licorice. Taste is cocoa, caramel malt, lactose, bit of vanilla and coffee. Sweet but with an interesting and unexpected bitterness of hop resin behind it. Fairly quick finish of cocoa and caramel. Medium bodied, thin texture, slightly high carbonation. Would have liked to have had a thicker body on this. Still a tasty beer!
2.5 I had this at Global Brew. Pours black with a tiny tan head. Taste roasted malt, chocolate, coffee. I thought this wasn't very good. I would not drink this again.
3.0 Jet black pour w/ no head or lacing. Bad bottle? Aroma is way too light for a stout - tiny hint of chocolate. The taste is not nearly sweet enough to pull this off - actually slightly bitter. Not a fan!
3.8 Very deep and malted aroma, exactly what is expected of a stout, very dark, almost black appearance. A roasted taste with a few sweet notes as well, almost hints of coffee and chocolate, very drinkable and one I’ll certainly buy again.
4.8 aromas of coffee and dark chocolate, thick foamy head, very dark brown body, tastes medium sweetness, heavy cloying sweetness, very bitter, very bloody nice! like drinking dark chocolate leaves a nice tang around the mouth, full body, oily feel, soft carbonation, lovely velvety aftertaste. a winner! bottle from beers of europe.
4.8 This is one of my favorite milk stouts out there. pours dark with a small tannish head. aromas of coffee and chocolate. a little bitter but i like that
3.2 Pours black with thin brown head. Aromas of black chocolate, roasted malt, sugar, coffee, alcohol. Thinner than expected, less sweet and more bitter too. It’s quite boozy in the finish.
2.9 Pours a dark brown black. Lacking had retention. Body and palate are good, but lacking in flavor. Ok beer.
3.4 Dark brown pour with small tan head. Aroma of malts and milk chocolate. Taste of roasted malts, milk chocolate and lactose. Medium bodied and nice carbonation. Simple beer but very enjoyable that goes down way to fast. Good beer.
3.3 Bottle - Very Dark Brown in colour. Malty; roasty malts, milk chocolate, sugar, caramel, hints of coffee. Sweet creamy milk chocolatey stout. Very drinkable.
3.4 Two words: balsamic vinegar... on the swallow and after, long after. This could be really good with Mediterranean or Indian food.
3.0 Pitch black pour. Medium head with very little lacing. Aroma of dark malts and bread. Creamy taste. More bread than sweet, though. Decent stout. Easy to drink.
3.6 Beautiful thick black, with a thin tan head. Quite metallic aroma, with a very sweet and creamy finish
3.6 (Bottle): Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of milky sugary coffee, cream, chocolate, burnt notes. Flavour of roasted malt, coffee, milk, brown sugar, dark chocolate and some slight blackberry notes on the finish. Smooth and drinkable.
4.1 Bottle in the Head of Steam, Durham. Very dark stout with a dissipating cream head. Very nice creamy flavour. Quite a sweet brew with lots of chocolate flavour. There’s coffe in there too, but this is quiet light and easy to drink, although I found it a bit rich toward the end.
3.2 12oz bottle thanks to peterhazelton. Pours black with a small creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate, and alcohol. Taste burnt ash, sweet chocolate, roasted malt, lactos, and caramel.
3.5 Dark black. Thick head. Lacing. Milky. Real smooth. Not much body, kind of thin. Hints of burnt chocolate. I prefer the mole stout
