SKA Ten Pin Porter

SKA Ten Pin Porter

The perfect robust porter: The sharp bitterness of the black malt sits nicely within the overall malty sweetness. Full bodied with a medium hop bitterness.

Six different malts are combined to create this complex Robust Porter. Perle and Willamette hops are added to fashion the perfect balance for which the Ten Pin is renowned.

3.2 Bottle at Brewdog Edinburgh. Black color, beige head. Bitter taste with roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, nuts. Bittersweet finish with roasted malts, nuts. Very nice porter.
3.1 Bottle; Poured dark brown/black with a small tan head. Aroma: Espresso, coffee. Flavor: Bitter, bitter, bitter. Watery finish notes of malt present but overpowered by its bitterness.
3.2 Bottle; poured a dark brown/black color. Aroma of coffee, cocoa and caramel. All a bit muted however. Flavor was the same. Not bad, but really lacking in depth and assertiveness. A nice touch of sweetness, but just lacking somewhat.
3.6 12 oz bottle poured nearly black but actually dark brown with orangish highlights. The tan head is moderate in size and retention. Good lacing. S: A surprising amount of coffee in the aroma, with plenty of dark roasted malts and a hint of chocolate. T: Roasted malts, soft coffee, toffee and a little brown sugar. Slightly sweet at the start but turns nearly bitter by the finish M-- Light-medium body and carbonation. O: A good porter, not overly sweet despite the apparent dirth of hops.
3.1 12 ounce bottle. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and caramel. Taste is roasted malt, milk chocolate, cherries, and coffee. Pretty good.
3.6 Not my favourite from SKA, but a decent porter. Pours black with almost no head. appears pretty carbonated- almost looks like coke when you first pour it. The malt flavours really come through- pretty sweet with a medium mouthfeel. Chocolate, cherries, spice, toast. Mouthfeel is medium- sort of a strange finish- something I can’t quite wrap my palate around. Not overly hoppy- almost too sweet for a porter. decent, just feels not quite balanced. I drank a founders porter about a week ago and should have sworn off porters for the month- nothing is quite living up to that.
3.4 12 oz bottle pours black with minimal tan head and no lacing. Aroma and flavor are rich and dark roasted malts, chocolate, caramel and fruity hop spiciness. Medium body with a slick, smooth texture and average carbonation. Finish is a bit dry, light hops and grains. Complex and robust flavor
3.7 The aroma is subtle yet hoppy and of basement aromas, and the appearance of the beer is dark brown with nearly no head. The beer is of a medium bitterness and slightly sweet, but the body of the beer is full. The texture is thick and slick, and the finish is slightly bitter.
2.6 Black, quick dimished head,no foam or froth retention. Sweet mild chocolate with some buiscuit. Taste is kind of average, light roast, mild chocolate, some herbal/earthiness,kind of flat and watery, some cherry notes that some dark beers tend to have from chocolate malt maybe, didnt like the finish, kinda diet choco-cherrie cola, semisweet. Ok. Not that great.
3.2 12oz Bottle. The pour was a murky dark brown with an average (1-2 finger) light brown frothy head that receded down to a medium film and large collar thus creating good runny lacing. The aroma was on the mild side with a roasted dark bread malt, light resin hops and a sweaty yeast along with notes of milk chocolate and coffee. The taste was lightly roasty and somewhat sweet with a touch of chocolate from the onset, progressing with a light bitterness and a nice note of coffee towards the finish. The flavor lasted an average time proceeding the swallow with a slight bitter roastiness left behind. Mouthfeel was a few shades below medium in body with a thin watery texture and a soft carbonation. Overall I found this brew to be rather thin for a Porter, although it was quite flavorful and very easy going down...
2.1 Pours black...hardley any light brown head.. Raisen aroma.. taste is decent. not sure if igot a bad bottle but its pretty flat..just ok
3.5 12 oz. bottle. Pours very dark, almost black with small beige head. Aroma is sweet black malt. Flavor is just slightly bitter with rich malty sweetness. Full bodied with just a bit of bitterness in the finish. Pretty good.
3.9 Not bad, certainly one of SKA’s better beers. As compared to other breweries’ stock porters, this one is middle of the road. Has the nice chocolate and coffee flavors with a slightly watery body. Mild when it comes to the hops, there is not much that makes this stick out. Still, a solid porter.
3.1 Bottle at Meade Station, Denver - 01/06/12. Dark brown with a then head that soon dissipated. Roasted malts, chocolate, coffee in both aroma and taste. Bog standard porter basically!
3.6 Good, basic porter. Nothing fancy. Lots of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, and caramel. Little bit of hop bit in the back end . Much better beer when warm as beer becomes much richer and fuller and the hops come alive and give nice bitterness to it.
3.0 Aroma is a mix of coffee bitterness, a hint of caramel and hops. The flavor is malts, caramel, grapefruit hops and a hint of citrus. It wasn’t bad but it tasted more like a Black IPA; I don’t get why so many brewers keep trying to call these "new wave Porters."
3.9 bottle. this isn’t a bad beer. i am enjoying iit more than some of the other porters that I have had. it has nice aromatic and burnt flavour balance.
3.4 Nice easy drinking smokey porter. Nothing special though... Tastes like every other... Sorry Ska I wish it was more unique....
3.3 Nice fruitiness. Decently robust. Good cocoa and roasted notes along with some noticeable hops.
3.3 Bottle poured into pint. Small head, dark Brown. Nice roasted malts aroma. Good dark malty finish.
3.6 12 oz bottle pours black with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Taste is mainly the roasted malt.
3.2 Bottle pours all foam, khaki with a black drip at the bottom, seems way over carbonated like a bad home brew project. The snarl is rotated gain and dark fruit. Taste wise it seems ok, roasted beyond most porters, a good bit of bitter chocolate, a little espresso and a dry hoppy kick with some under lying cherry like flavor. Overall ok, would like to try a non jacked up bottle.
2.5 Bottle in Chicago. Surprisingly light bodied and pitch black in color, with a very small amount of foam on the pour. There are some minor malt and nutty tastes, but overall it lacks any substantive flavor....uhhh, watery is the word. Cool, loud label art (points for making a recognizable brand style), but not too impressive of a brew. Maybe Ska is better known for other varieties?
4.1 A friend sent me a bottle and I looked at the silly label and thought that this can’t be very good. Boy, was I ever wrong. Great, great flavor and finish. One of the better domestic porters that I have tasted.
3.2 Bottle from Sam’s in Durham. Poured most of it into some chili, but what I had was fine. Medium to dark brown pour with big bubbly tan head. Tastes is grainy, malty, slightly metallic. Notes of mild chocolate and coffee. Not a bad porter, but not super remarkable.
2.8 Draft at old Chicago. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Leaves no lacing in the glass. Slight chocolate malt on the tongue with some hop bitterness on the finish for balance. Pretty bland for the style.
2.9 bottled. pours black with a small tight light tan head. aromas of chocolate and roasted malt. moderately sour with bitterness from the roasted malt. heavy mouth feel with a lively astringent finish that lingers on the tongue.
3.2 12 oz. bottle. Pours a beige, long duration head, over a clear dark brown (SRM 35) body.....nose is coffee, chocolate, mild toffee/caramel.....tasste is mile coffee, slight toffee/caramel, ending with a light bitter finish....mouth feel light of medium, carbonation high. This is slightly lighter and less complex than the best, but it fits well into the style. BJCP 7/3/12/4/6
3.4 Espresso, charcoal, and raisin aroma. Clear mahogany, medium tan head, nice lacing. Charcoal and mulberry flavor, tame. Creamy mouthfeel. This did not strike me as being robust at all. It tastes fine, but was rather weak.
3.0 Pours dark brownish black with nice tan head. Aroma has notes of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, some slight toffee. Taste is a bit more one dimensional, but nice notes of dark chocolate, roast, bitter coffee finish. Overall ok, palate a bit thin and not much to it, but overall not bad.
