Slottskällans Kloster (-2005)

Slottskällans Kloster (-2005)

Kloster is our version of a Belgian abbey ale. Dark as an abbey’s cellar. Complex aroma with characteristic sweetness and convincing strength. A beer to experience!

Please note that this entry is for the filtered 7% Kloster, that was produced until 2005. The 9% version (that used to be called Julkloster until 2005) should be rated under Kloster 2005-.

3.8 Bottle 330 ml from PMgep, thanks Stefan! Into a snifter, ABV 9% Deep red orange colour on the body, quite clear, with one finger of thin off-white head sitting on top. Okay retention for its size, light lacing left behind. Aroma is sweet and fruity, with grapes, honey, malts, very appealing and inviting. Taste is also sweet and quite fruity, dried apricots, grapes, berrie marmalade, some dark fruits too. The alcohol very well hidden. A bit thin on the body, low carbonation too. Overall this was pretty good, needs only more body, but other than that very enjoyable.
3.3 The aroma is of yeast, flowers and a little musty. The flavor is very sweet which atleast I enjoy. This does not taste so classic Quadrupel. The sweet taste mixes himself with the bitter the aftertaste and fills the mouth’s upper part with flavor. There is a small cherry-like in the finish. Maybe not such a long time but I know me pretty happy with this beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.
3.2 Pours a cloudy brown color with a small, lightly tanned head. Aroma is candy, figs, coriander and yeast. Taste is abit weird, with some light sourness amongst the sweet fruity character that is dominating. Close to full bodied but abit light on the co2.
3.5 Bottle at home. Vintage 2012. The colour is golden dark amber with a small, light beige head. Has a complex aroma of dried fruit, juniper, Belgian yeast, sweet malt and some barnyard. The flavour is more sweet with more dried fruit, wood and leather. Slick mouth feel, and has a light bitterness. A tasteful, well-balanced and nice quadrupel.
Aning vattnig, avslagen karaktär men ändå bra(!)
3.4 Lys brun i fargen, medium skum. Anonym aroma, tørket frukt og malt. Samme i smak. Medium konsistens.
3.5 0,25l on tap @ Pikkulintu. Pours clear amber with a medium head. Aroma is malts and dark fruits. Flavor is malts, dark fruits, some alcohol and a hint of hops. Decent.
3.3 Draught at Pikkulintu. Brown color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, banana, hops, earthy notes and dark fruits. Bittersweet finish with citrus, cookie dough and banana. Decent quadrupel.
3.7 Served in a trappist glass. Pours brown with a white head. nose of spice, some caramel. Caramel, dried fruit, sweet malty aftertaste. Kind of weak, but mellow. Little fizz, lingering finish of dried fruit.
3.1 On bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika, a while ago- 2012 vintage. Golden color, ok foam. Aromas of malt, dried fruits, caramel: medium intensity . Medium body & complexity. Some. Sweetness, ok balance. Enjoyable- but kind of weak for a quadruple
3.6 330 ml bottle, rated from backlog. Hazy red with off white head. Aroma sweet of cookies, caramel and fruit. Taste is sweet with same notes.
3.5 Bottle - 330ml. Cloudy amber body with a thin off-white foamy head. Robust malty/hoppy aroma with fruity, caramel, and yeasty hints. Taste is well balanced and surprisingly mild. It carries citrusy, yeasty, and some woody notes. Ends with a long, warming bittersweet finish. Good stuff.
3.2 Loads of honney in the aroma. Taste of banana and wheat although the malt is rye, but also lots of toffee. Sweet with some well-balancing bitterness in the aftertaste.
3.3 Medium yellowish beige head. Clear deep dark red body with carbonation. Fruity perfumy bubblegum aroma with spicy earthy notes. Dry-sweet spicy earthy fruity taste with herbal honey notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, hot mouthfeel. Dryish roasty alcoholic dried fruit aftertaste with spicy funky herbal notes. Nice, drinkable, a bit marred by bubblegum and alcohol. The initial flavour is great, though. (0.33l bottle, Systembolaget, Charlottenberg. 2012 vintage.)
4.0 A beautiful beer to behold and even nicer to drink if you are into this kind of beer. It does not only succeed in mimicing the Trappiste beers of Belgium, it even surpasses some of them.
3.2 0,33 bottle from kvadrat. Hazy red color with offwhite foam. Sweet aroma of cookie and caramel with fruit notes. Flavour of sweet caramel and cookies. Feel its nothing to balance the sweetness out of it.
2.4 Old rating rerated 30.09.2015, 0,33l bottle (2012 vintage) shared @ BBGTC tasting: Tiny bubbly shortlasting head. Aroma is sweet, raisins, candied sugar, caramel malts, grass, dried fruits. Taste is slightly harsh oxidized, weeds, dried grain, hay, burnt caramel, minerals, grass, candied sugar. Medium bitterness, harsh watery mouthfeel. Boring.
3.0 Bottle, 2012 version, thnx to LoFi!! Cheers man! This pours a light brownish beer with a very small, quickly dissapating off white head. Aroma malty with some vague hints of ripe fruits in there. Some vigs and caramel. Flavour and mouthfeel are quite disappointing. Flavour is just some moderate sweetness and mouthfeel is quite watery. It’s definitely not the palate I’d expect with a quad. The abv is very well hidden, but the rest of the flavors are a bit off.. Not the best quad ever and it is just an adequate grade..
3.6 Bottle. Deep red clear with a small off white head. Aroma: blegian sugars, banana, malts, toasted, sweet, nice. Taste: sweet with belgian notes, toasty caramel, mineral, alcohol. Pretty nice.
3.6 Brown muddy pour, with a medium beige head. Aroma of caramel, candy sugar, peaches and candy in general. Taste is citrusy, with candysugar and yeah, typical trappisty.
3.3 Medium brown hazy body with a tiny head consisting of a few big bubbles and a partially covering film. Fair lacing. The aroma is moderate, sweet and not very complex. Caramel, dark dried fruits, a bit sugary. Nuts in the back and a faint vinous touch. The taste is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter. The flavours are not that strong. Belgian yeast with some very faint unclean yeasty notes in the back, dark dried fruits, traces of caramel and a touch of spices. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. A nice beer, but quite dull compared to the La Trappe quad that I had yesterday. To be honest I didn’t guess that this was supposed to be a quad at all… [33 cl bottle, 2012 edition, enjoyed 10 months before BB date, from Vinmonopolet Ullevål, Oslo]
3.1 Bottle from Systembolaget. 2012 version, best before 130127 (one year?). Hazy red/light brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is dark sugar, some dried fruit. Sweet with some fizzy carbonation, finish is boozy. Too one-dimensional.
2.9 Light brown. Alcohol, yeast, malt and plum aroma. Sweet and bitter. Thick mouth feel. A tad too slick. Ok.
3.1 33cl bottle from Vinmonopolet Storo. Pours hazy dark copper with a small off-white head. Aroma of malt yeast, dark fruits, caramel, spices and a hint of alcohol. Sweet with a nicely bitter finish. Weaker in flavour than expected, but still decent.
2.9 On tap at Pikkulintu. Pours murky, hazy dark orange with a big silky smooth brownish head that vanishes pretty fast. Taste is smooth, little fruity, slightly bitter, nice notes of yeast. Hides the alcohol very well. Not as smooth as other trappist beers i have tasted tho. Also notes of grain and citrus. After tasting it a while gets bit watery.
3.1 33cl 2007 bottle thanks to omhper. Dark brown color. Almost no head :-( Carbonation is medium. Sweetness is medium to high. Aroma is light caramel and alcohol. Lacks deepness.
3.0 Draught at Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Colour is hazy reddish brown with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Alcohol, wheat, yeast, dark fruits, sweetness and malts. Too sweet and boozy.
