3.9 12-JUL-2014, bottle in Kregme, from Kihoskh. Hazy real with almost no pink head. Aroma is extreme raspberry. Taste is raspberry and darker fruits. Medium body and carbonation. Thin’ish finish. Not a lot of hops. Nice.
4.2 Bottle, caged and corked. Full disclosure, I may be positively tilted towards good raspberry beers ... But from the first whiff of this I’m sold. Solid, fresh berry fields, with a hint of yeast. This is full bodied, perhaps in the minds of some too full-bodied to carry the berry character ... but still a pleasant, rollicking beer IMHO ... an interesting Germanic, wheaty twist is underneath ... good stuff. 3.4 A decent fruited wheat beer. I’m a sucker for anything raspberry; beers especially. This one wasn’t the best flavored beer out there, but was pretty good. Aroma was nice. Raspberry, with hints of cough syrup and jelly. Pour was a beautiful dark hazy red with a one finger near pink head. Taste was a let down considering the good aroma. Thin and watery with the great carbonation drowning out any flavor on initial sip. When the flavor comes out it is all raspberry, but very muted. Not much else going on. Jack up the raspberry flavor a little and this beer would be fantastic
3.6 Bottle at home. Pours dark red, lovely raspberry nose, tart, fruity, but a bit flat and thin, nose brings this up.
2.0 Bottle. Red. Smells like raspberries. Unsweetened raspberry with a lot of carbonation. Not very well balanced.
3.0 A: Deep Ruby Red Hue, Passes Some Light, Mild Pink Ring of Head, No Lacing S: Mildly Tart Raspberry T: Mild Raspberry M: Mild Carbonation, Light Bodied, Watery Overall, I was very disappointed because t had little t offer on taste and nose...and this is a brewers reserve?
3.4 Bottle @ Richard’s tasting. Dark purple pour with a pink head. Sugar, raspberry soda, and popsicles. A touch of grass. Simple flavor. Just pretty much sweet raspberry soda/popsicle. A touch of grass, soda water, and a light tartness.
3.8 750 c&c from BottleSelect.com. Pours darkly ruddy with an off-pink head. Aroma is very raspberry - more black than not. Med minus body. Flavor is rather tart raspberry. Again more towards black than red. It’s really dryish, and has a raspberry tartness on into the finish. Goes a bit thinnish, but the flavor isn’t affected.
4.2 Tastes like black raspberries. A lot of the original sugars are gone, which gives this a deep fruit taste which doesn’t cling with too much sweetness.
2.5 0.75 l bottle. Pink brown colour with a thin redish head. Raspberry, vanilla aroma with a strong fruity raspberry flavour. Medium body.
1.9 This one poured a ruby red color with a small pinkish head. Aroam was of artificial raspberries and basically nothing else. Flavor was very similar, overly sweet and way too carbonated. Just bad.
3.3 750 ml bottle purchased @ Phoenixville, PA. Brewpub location. Color of liquid and head is purple. The aroma is heavy raspberry and sweet sugary berries. The flavor starts fairly sweet up front then turns quickly into a tart, acidic berry flavor. Body is more thin then I was wanting. A touch cloying and very one dimensional. A big letdown, really thought I was getting a bolder more complex beer with this one. Not bad at all just simple.
3.6 Ruby coloured and hazy. Has a white head, mostly lasting. Both aroma and flavor has clear notes of raspberries and some fruity sweetness. Finish a bit astringent.
3.3 Thanks Chris! 750ML enjoyed at home for my GF’s birthday. Enjoyed at 60F in a wine glass. A - Gorgeous blackberry appearance. Nice head that’s also purple. S - Smells great! raspberries, blackberries and cherries. T - Dangit. Taste is nothing like the smell. No sweetness. tastes like fresh picked..almost too fresh picked blackberries and blueberries. Bland finish. M - Light body, high carbonation O - This was going to be great and then it wasn’t. Sigh.
3.5 750 ml bottle Thanks to someone for sharing this at a tasting. It was towards the end of the night. A decent beer overall but with flaws, I am glad I did not have to finish an entire bottle myself. It isn’t overly terrible but 8% ABV fruit beers are very filling. Aroma / Appearance - Smelling like carbonated Welch’s grape juice the nose is very sweet. There’s almost no head to accompany it. Tart black raspberries, dense pureed fruit, and other aromas remind me of walking through a bramble on a warm summer afternoon. Flavor / Palate - Fruit juice is sweet and almost immediately coats the tongue in a chewy texture. Tangy raspberries linger in the back of the throat. Like an alcoholic bubbly soda it is filling and thick. With some more depth I would have gone and bought another bottle to take home. Instead it goes down the books as one of those "glad to have tried it" but nothing more.
2.6 This beer really smells good but the smell was misleading for me. I smelled tart sweet raspberries but the flavor of this beer was dull and muted. Much ado about a typical fruit beer. Yes, the smell and the appearance really saves this beer. Dark reddish purple hue. Well, somethign else makes this beer nearly acceptable; the carbonation. Yez, the co2 was there from the start, an easy friendly bubbling sensation. Not sure what to say of this, I guess a lambic or sweet thing was more than a beermaker should add. This is missing something that would separate it from the pack.
3.1 Bottle from a trade a little while back. Very deep crimson colored with a short-lived pinkish head. The aroma is full of raspberry and black currant. The scent has a slight grapey vinous element as well. The flavors here are pretty straight forward. It’s sweet and slightly tart with black raspberry dominating. Some notes of wheat mix in. A touch dry and scratchy in the finish. This is fairly easy drinking for a big sweet fruit beer, and overall not bad, but it’s something I really had trouble getting into. After a few sips it was pretty clear; decent flavor but too one dimensional, not much malt complexity, and wasn’t something I was looking forward to continue drinking (even though I did).
2.9 Aroma of blackberry and grape juice. Pours deep black red with no head. Taste is tart black cherry and raspberry with a seltzer feel and taste. Tastes like a diet soda.
3.5 On tap at the Selinsgrove Beer & Wine Festival. This is very well done. It is not a "novelty" beer, but rather a well made fruit beer that is worth trying. Single finger surprisingly pink head on a reddish amber body. Aroma isn’t too sweet with musty raspberry and blackberries. Flavor is well balanced.
4.0 Thx. to Tinus // 75 cl. Bottle sampled @ RBBSG 2012 // raspberry ruby coloured with an off-white head // smells of raspberry jam, some mashed raspberries // this tastes more or less like raspberry jam, which is pretty good for me; yummy, quite sweet, small touches of malt, some syrup, sweet , lots of jam, pretty much what fruit beers should be // med. body
3.5 Very red, crimson colour, off-white head. Aroma of raspberry, black raspberry, quite sweet, light bitter, malts and raspberry pips. Light sweet flavour, blueberries. Quite light, almost weak. Sweet finish, loads of raspberry. (From 75cL bottle, shared @ RBBSG II, Wilrijk)
3.4 Corked bottle. Strong raspberry aroma. Initial roasted malt challenged by raspberries. fairly dry. Hint of vanilla. Questionable balance. Hint of alcohol. Still a nice beer.
3.0 11/VIII/2012 75cl bottle @ RBBSG - (2012-913) Thanks to Tinus for sharing the bottle! Clear ruby red beer, no head, dissipates immediately. Aroma: lots of raspberry jam. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: lots of raspberry jam, little sweet, pretty bitter touch as well. Aftertaste: little bitter, rapsberry, bit lemony, little metallic. Not a huge fan of cooking the fruits with the wort, I prefer beer which is blended with "raw" fruits.
3.5 at RBBSG thx to Martinus for sharing !! Head: white Colour: ruby Smell: very fruity, raspberry, sweet, some malts Taste: Ok this is a Fruit Beer , so doesn’t have to be sour , since it’s not a sour ale , pretty good rounded sweet flavour of the rasberrys , some malts underneath, not that bad !
3.3 Bottle courtesy of Tinus, thanks! Clear ruby color, small white head. Nice fruit aroma. Taste is very sweet fruit.
3.6 Bottle sample @ 2nd RBBSG, August 11th 2012. Courtesy of Tinus. Couleur acajou, col beige fin.
2.7 Bottle @ tasting. Aroma is huge red fruits, mostly raspberry. (No shit) Almost like concentrated lemonade syrup, with the forthcoming articifial notes. Flavour is huge raspberry, blackcurrant, all very dry and very fruity. Not bad for a fruit beer. (which is really not my style.)
2.5 Sample at a molen beer tasting. Thin white head. Clear ruby pour. Fruity aroma. Ok for a fruit beer.
2.1 Clean dark red, beige bubbly head. Raspberry soda, lemonade, fruit milk. Way too sweet in the aroma, foaming mouth feel. Dry fruit feel and bitter end. Strange but I’m not a fan. Maybe if you love fruit beer. (At the De Molen tasting)
2.3 Hazy red small white head. Aroma is very sweet and lots of raspberry. Taste is less sweet than aroma. Lots of carbonation. Very dry. I prefer a good cruel.
