2.4 Canned. Pours on the lighter side of brown. Mild caramel notes but overall kind of a watery and characterless dunkel.
3.2 Can. Pours a deep, clear amber with a finger and a half of head, decent lacing, and very little carbonation. Smells of caramel and bread.. pretty strong aroma in all honesty. Taste is pretty strong.. some sweetness and some funky notes. Palate is very full for 5.3%. Overall very enjoyable.
3.2 Pours drk brown with a tan head. Aroma is caramel, bread and resin. Taste is sweet. Medium mouthfeel. Nice
3.4 Can. Pours dark brown with off white head. Nose of roasted malts, roasted barley and grain. Taste is same - dry malt finish. Clean. Medium body.
3.3 A nice dunkel with a good bread, nut and banana flavor and a hint of honey. Nice!
3.8 great traditional dunkel. fresh is the only way to have this. slighty creamy, banana-like, toasty flavor, mild hop bitterness along the sides of the tongue. classic dunkel lager.
3.7 Wow this is one tasty beer! I was shocked at first sip. Aroma was nice. Bread and roasted malt fill the nose. Pour was a nice dark brown with a one finger near tan head. Taste was just big and full. The bread and roasted malt were very big but not sweet. Just full. A little toast and caramel flavors come out in the aftertaste. Slightly toffee like as it warms. Nice carbonation. Great beer.
3.0 Draft @ the brewpub. Pours a clear copper color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty grainy caramel aroma with weak hoppy hints. Fruity crisp malty grainy flavor with hints of caramel. Has a fruity malty grainy caramel finish.
3.0 Canned. Crisp but rather malty flavor that holds a hint of hoppy bitterness. Deep flavor, somewhat nutty.
3.3 Canned. Poured clear, lighter amber with a short-lived off-white head.. decent color, but not enough of a cap. The aroma picked up sweet bready malts with a hint of cocoa with fresh earthy hoppage around.. light, complementary roast to it.. very solid example of the style. The flavor found bready and semi-sweet chocolate malts at the core, with prickly carbonation and cocoa bitterness around.. finished dry with some residual sugars and roast. Lighter-bodied and dry on the palate with a fine mouthfeel for a dunkel.. very, very drinkable.
2.5 12 oz can from Jonathan Ron Brielle. Poured a decent looking clear orange body with some clinging bubbles and a smaller foamy white head. Aroma is all malts at first and smells almost like a BMC but then with some warming notes of grape, raisin and glue. Thine bodied withn light carboantion and not much of an aftertaste. Flavor is almost nonexistant, a slight hint of malts and dry grassy hops. If it wasn’t for the decent color on this beer it could almost be a BMC.
3.7 Can. Clear light brown with offwhite head. Aromas of cocoa, roasted nuts, bread, soap. Flavors of caramel, roasted nuts, cocoa, bread. Balanced finish, roasted malt attenuation. Medium-thin body with soft mouthfeel and moderate, soft carbonation.
2.5 on tap at brewpub. trans amber with thin white head. Nose is diacetyl, light tea and gravel. Flavor is more butter, moderate sugar, more tea, very little dryness or bitterness in frothy, effervescent body
2.3 Can thanks to ChrisPro as part of Blind BIF Round 4. Served in a tulip. Pours a moderate brown color with a single-finger white head that doesn’t stick around very long and does not leave behind much other than a few spots of lacing. The nose is comprised mostly of sweet malt along with a bit of caramel. Some hops in the background. Something quite odd about it. This continues into the taste, which is a bit too sweet without much of anything other than mild hops to carry it through. Body is light with moderate carbonation. Butter starts to come through as it warms. Probably not something I’d drink again, but who doesn’t love a good canned beer? Serving type: can Reviewed on: 02-14-2011
3.2 Poured from a keg (thx bro law). Very clear copper color. Full head. Very malty aroma, bready or biscuit aroma. Med sweetness. Little bitter. Lite body. Creamy texture. Not bad.
3.0 Clear copper color with no head. Aroma of bread, fruit, and nuts. Sweet banana flavor with bread, nuts, and a hint of caramel. Decent beer.
3.0 Malt, bready and nutty aromas abound in this lager that pours a deep brown with a rich thick off white head. Very sweet start to finish with a subtle offset of hop character. Pleasant maple syrup like aftertaste.
3.6 Can from Barley’s and Hops. Pours a dark brown color with a medium grey head. A nice light nutty and caramel malt nose. The flavor is very good; smooth, rich toast, light coffee, fruity, caramel, very good.
2.4 Hazy brown coloured body with a ridiculously large, exploding, tan head that looks like soda and doesn’t stop with carbonation - at all. Aroma of pale malt, caramel, a touch of pit fruits and a lot of cardboard. Medium-bodied; Assertive malt and caramel sweetness up front with some light nuts and a lot of cardboardie funkiness on the back end. Aftertaste has some light sugars, but mainly an odd sweet, nutty taste. Overall, not such a great beer and the overkill on carbonation just makes it plain bad. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 04-September-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 30-November-2010.
4.1 12oz can pours dark amber with average head. Aroma is malty with notes of brown sugar. Flavor is sweet brown sugar and honey stand out hops and spice in the backround. Body is full with a sweet taste and feel. Better than an average lager. A sweet honey brown sugar finish leaves you wanting another sip. Great beer
2.4 6er of cans from the rip and run. Ahh a new Sly Fox offering in my little town...Joy! or at least that is what ran thru my head prior to purchase and consumption of this off mark super sweet viscous substance. It may have authentic ingredients, just not the taste, body or luciousness of a quality dunkel. Looked nice in the glass though.
3.0 On-tap at Cole’s. No aroma, a nice dark brown colour with a minimal white head, however lots of lace ws left after draining. A basic dunkle, Ok drinkability, above average carbonation. Faily uninteresting, chocolate malts, a drop of bitterness.
3.2 Draft at Coles, Buffalo NY. Light cola colored pour, Toasted malt aroma. wheat flavor with grassy, hay & some sweet maltiness. Medium mouthfeel. OK
3.3 Can, 355 ml, best before 03/15/09, gift from Luc Bourbonnière (merci!), savoured on September 10 2000; eye: amber, lightly hazy, tiny ring of head; nose: malt, caramel, light spices, slight hops, nutty; mouth: quite malty, slight spices, caramel, nutty, quite malty finale with presence of slight hops, medium body, average carbonation; overall: fine FRANÇAIS Canette, 355 ml, meilleure avant 03/15/09, cadeau de Luc Bourbonnière (merci!), savourée le 10 septembre 2009; œil : ambrée, légèrement voilée, petit anneau de mousse; nez : malt, caramel, léger épices, très léger houblon, noisette; bouche : très maltée, très léger épices, caramel, noisette, finale très maltée avec très léger houblon, corps moyen, carbonatation moyenne; en résumé : bien
3.6 12 oz can poured into a pint glass (should I have used a pilsener?). The color is a hazy red and the appearance is so inviting. The head is quite fluffy. The smell is like bread. The taste is pretty good considering I usually only drink ales. The taste is bready as well and reminds me of an Oktoberfest beer. Man I suck at reviewing beers. This one is good and I am glad to have tried it. Thanks go to nflmvp for sending this my way. Serving type: can Reviewed on: 03-01-2007 00:56:20
3.1 From a can poured dark amber with a good amount of head. Nice toatsed sweet malty flavor with a quick finish.
2.9 Dark red amber with a beige head that sticks around for some moments. Has a very lager smell with the slightest amount of German Lager hops smell in it (looking at what people write about aromas, it seems that no one can agree on what the aroma is). Front of the beer feels like nothing and the tastes develop more towards the middle and the end. You got some lager bitterness, like the same kind that you would find in a Heineken. A few roasted malts notes. Bitter finish. Minimal aftertaste.
3.2 Can: Darker Amber, on the reddish side, thin spritzy off-white head, sparce lacing, no carbonation.   Malty nose, a little honey sweet, slight cereal but its minor.   Somewhat neutral.   Malty on the tongue, quite nice actually, mild sweetness, very little cereal comes through.   Does fade somewhat quickly though.   This one even has a little hop flavor on the backside.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, perhaps nearing the lighter side.   Well crafted, not big mind you, flavorful, but fades quickly, all while remaining fairly clean.   More enjoyable than expected.   Thanks Jeff for the can!
1.9 The only other Sly Fox beer I’ve had was their pils, which was super! The dunkel was a valiant effort, but it fell short of my expectations. Nice dark brown color with red hues, but a very short lasting head. Thin body, with a touch of grittiness and astringency. The flavor was a bit too sweet, with way too much licorice like aftertaste. Honestly, this beer reminded me more of a porter, or a thin stout rather than a dunkle.
2.3 Clear amber, thin head. Oat and barley aroma. Weird earthy grainy taste. Thin body.
