3.4 Draft at Moriartys. Clear amber pour with a splash of foam. Nice spicy Tripel. Full and fragrant. A bit harsh alcohol wise. Tripel notes are proper but simple. Not overly complicated, but a nice full take on the style.
2.9 Hazy golden-orange colored body, medium sized white head, spotty lacing. Bready malts, with stonefruit, clove, and light citrus. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, fairly sweet, starts to get cloying after a few sips. Not capturing the style right.
3.6 Nice spicy tripel, just a touch of tanginess, some floral notes, clear golden body with active carbonation. Decent fluffy head shrinks to small lasting head. A tripel with a little bit of bite.
3.8 750 mL bottle from Beer Run. The cork was a real bitch to get out. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a medium sized fizzy white head. Fair head retention. Aroma of yeast, candi sugar, cotton candy, candy apples, stone fruits, a faint bit of tart citrus. The taste is dry pale malts, tart fruits, tannic notes, yeast, strong spice in the finish. Medium bodied, lingering spice, moderate carbonation. Straightforward but well made.
3.7 A very pretty clear yellow-orange color, almost looks pink in dim light. Aroma is floral, lemon, berries, pine, and malt. It is almost similar to a sweet white wine in smell. Taste is slightly bitter, slightly sweet. Medium body. The alcohol lingers just so...nice touch.
3.4 750ml bottle. Pours light amber with a lot of foam. Nose is sweet and fruity. Spicy on the palate finishing with dark fruits.
3.4 Hazy orange beer with a thick foamy white head that rises quickly. Fairly monotone sour nose with some spice, but little overall complexity. Flavor is better with bright sour lemon initially that develops some spiciness consisting of clove, coriander, and mild ginger with undertones of under-ripe banana. Then a little bit of bitterness closes out the profile. The effervescence is lively making this a refreshing beer that is easy to drink.
3.9 This pours hazy and a light golden color with a faint orange hue. There is steady stream of bubbles rising up through the middle. The head is delicate, white and creamy and fell to a film and a ring of loose bubbles. The nose is deeply rich and sweet. At first you can smell a strong bit of yeast but then the fruits take over. Pear, apple skin and a tart apricot. There is plenty of earth in this nose and spices that make it woody and deep. Candi sugar and sweet soft bread. Gentle clove and orange with a sweet green grape as it warms. Taste is very rich as the fruits and the rich sweet bread combine on the palate with a surprising and welcome light tartness from citrus. The spice brings a depth to the drink that is earthy and woody and adds clove & coriander. Honey. There was no alcohol on the nose but there is a bit of warmth and that’s terrific as this is a big beer at 10.5 %. This beer was brimming and overflowing with succulence from fruit flavors and a sweet deep malt that stayed soft. The mouthfeel is creamy and the carbonation provides a slight tickle. It finishes dry . Hops are flowery and and it develops a little pepper in the finish too.
3.4 Bottle. Pours a a bright orange tan color> head fades and remains on the edges. Taste is sweet, boozy and sugary. Nothing great but its got a lot of flavor
3.6 750 ml bottle into chalice, no bottle dating. Pours lightly cloudy golden amber color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of pear, apple, apricot, grape, candi sugar, honey, bread, clove, light pepper, floral, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of pear, apple, apricot, grape, honey, candi sugar, bread, clove, light pepper, floral, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruits, candi sugar, honey, bread, clove, light pepper, floral, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good complexity of malt and yeast ester flavors; with a good malt/yeast flavor balance and minimal cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a slick and moderately syrupy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very solid tripel style. Good balance and complexity of malt and yeast ester flavors; and fairly smooth to sip on for the big ABV. An enjoyable offering to sip on slowly.
3.2 Bottle, 2nd Tuesday Tasting @ De Molen. Clear golden colour, white head. Nose is malty, grainy, fairly sweet, hint of vanilla, yeast. Flavour is malty, bit of candied sugar, yeasty, bit of vanilla.
2.4 The taste of too much candi sugar and some straw, way too sweet for me. Fine white head though. Bottle best by date 31 3 2012...might explain the sweetness....
3.5 Sample at the molen monthly tasting. Thin white head. Hazy blond pour. Sweet taste. Very nice.
3.7 Slightly hazy dark golden, off white head. Rather sweet, raisins, some vanilla. almost like a desert wine.
3.5 Bottle @ 2nd Tuesday tasting at De Molen, hosted by dEnk. Hazy orange pour, thin white head. Aroma is fruity, yeasty, spicy and with more fruits. Flavor is sweet, sugary, yeasty and quite some unfermented sugars. Smooth and well drinkable but a little too sweet.
3.6 Bottle at the De Molen July 2nd Tuesday tasting. Poured a clear rich amber with a bubbly white head and lots of carbonation. The aroma is sweet and yeasty. The flavour medium sweet, with caramel, toffee and a zesty, bubbly palate. There is a little liquorice bitterness in the finish.
3.2 Bottle @ 2nd tuesday tasting. Aroma is dry fruity notes, some candy sugar. Flavour is quite sweet with caramel and some fruits. Okay I guess.
3.6 Pours a cloudy straw golden yellow with a big white frothy head. Aroma is hay, sweet candi sugar and honey. Taste is somewhat grainy and well carbed. A slightly on the sweet side with a nice dry palate wipe.
3.4 750ml, very fresh, corked and caged. Nose sweet with honey pale malt and a wallop of sweet candis, some orange peel and spice. Some vanilla and a really airy quality about it at times, some mineral and fruit, but more playing up that candi. Pours orange-golden with a scant white head. Medium body, light bitterness with probably a touch too much sweetness, aftertaste is an herbal-spicy load that isn’t aggressive or hot or prickly, but herbal-spicy nonetheless. Honey and yeast. Alcohol well-integrated, a little oily and flattish. For its odd choices, is still spritely and gregarious, and still packs the cheerful sunshine.
3.3 Clear golden colour, diminishing white head. Fruity aroma, yeast, malts, light butter. Sweet flavour, raisins, malts. Sweet malty finish, some yeast. (From 75cL bottle @ ZZT VII, Oirschot 2013. Thanks for sharing, joes!)
3.6 Poured opaque light gold, with a small, foamy head. Aroma of citrus and tropical fruits. Taste is bread, pineapple, and a little bit of banana with a little sweetness on the finish.
3.5 750ml bottle courtesy of Luc. Hazy yellow with a thin slightl off white head. Buckwheat honey, fresh corriander, alcohol, yeast, definitely candied sugar of the Liegge variety. Moderate body and somewhat high carbonation, sweet but fresh, alcohol comes out a little too much at the end but nice.
2.7 Bottle @ ZZT VII, thx to everyone for sharing their bottles. Aroma of pilsner malt. Hint of faint flowery hops. Butter. Just as it is hard for Belgian brewers to make a typical American IPA, it is tough for Americans to make a decent Belgian style. Too much spices and yeast esters.
3.4 Bottle shared by Joes @ ZZT VII. Hazy yellow color, small white head. Smell and taste malts,a bit of ssweetness, a touch of alcohol, a touch of hops. Medium body and carbonation.
3.5 Tasted at ZZT 7 thanks to Joes. Pours clear dark golden with a small tan head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, dough, spice, fruits and caramel. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
3.3 Bottle @ ZZT7 thx to joes. Yellow colour, medium white head. Smells quite sweet, slightly buttery, caramel. Tastes slightly buttery, sweet, caramel, malts, sugary. Medium body, soft carbo.
3.4 A golden triple with a thin white head. In aroma, sweet candy sugar with herbal notes, with curacao notes. In mouth, a smooth sweet candi sugar, honey, curacao and warming alcohol.
2.3 75cl bottle. Pours a transparent dark golden colour with small white head. Cereals, caramel, and hints of white grape on the nose. Sugary taste, wheat, malts, and spiciness emanating from the bubbles in the back. Alcohol presence, not surprising considering it’s 10.3% ABV. Light body, under-carbonated. Honestly, that’s incredibly far from being a great Tripel. I expected more from this.
3.1 750ml Belgian bottle. Pours a deep clear golden color ale with a huge bubbly white head with great lacing. Aroma is of candi sugar with some warm alcohol and notes of cloves and wheat. Taste is belgian yeast, light spice, peppery, and slightly sweet.
3.8 750 ml bottle purchased @ Phoenixville, PA. Brewpub location. The aroma is candid sugar, Belgian yeast, caramel, citrus and light clove. The flavor is slightly tangy with notes of clove, pears and candi sugar. Notes of honey or honey suckle flowers. Texture is sugary with a medium / full yeasty body. Alcohol presence but pretty well hidden considering the big 10.3 %. Overall this is a really nice Triple. And if you are outside of Philadelphia, well worth the trip to the brew pub. Recommended if you like this style.
