3.5Draft at Kloby’s. Pours dark brown with a thick, super creamy and foamy tan head. Tastes like a creamy, mild coffee, not too bitter. Like toast, grains, slightly earthy and roasted. Medium body and low carbonation. Light roasted, roasted, earthy smell.
2.4NItro at Sedona Charlottesville, Pours a clear red color with a medium sized frothy brown head. Decent head retention. Aroma of chocolate, soy, herbal hops. The taste is chocolate, soy, olives, green hops. Thin bodied, low carbonation. Something seems off with this one.
3.7On tap at brewpub. Thick tan head on pitch black body. Primarily roast with some muted chocolate and root cellar. Low bitterness and sweetness. Creamy body. Simple and unpretentious.
3.5Dark black body, medium sized tan head, spotty lacing. Roast, light chocolate, coffee, and earthy hops. Medium to full bodied, light sweetness, medium carbonation, clean finish.
1.6About as similar to Guinness as I have found. It does not have as "heavy" or thick as I would like. Kind if reminds me of a dark Guinness Light.
3.3On Tap @ Pinebox Rockshop - Brooklyn - Pours a watery dark black with a hint of reddish hue and light beige head. Aromas faint, mostly malt. Flavor is sweet maltiness with roasted barley, chocolate, some hops, hints of cofee and cream. Lingering bitter malt finish. Best enjoyed while detailing the your strategy for war if you were suddenly nominated to 4-Star General in the event of a WWIII deployment!
3.7On tap at the Bier Baron DC. Pours a watery black with some thin white head. Nose is solid, roasty, toast, malt, a little molasses, some chocolate. Flavor is malty and sweet, coffee with cream, chocolate, a little toast, coffee with cream. Full, creamy mouth feel. Really nice. Easy drinker.
3.4Pint on tap. Nearly opaque mahogany with a lasting nitro-infused head. Faint aroma of char and dark roasted coffee. Tastes of espresso with a dab of caramel. Finish is char, toasted bitter nut, dry cocoa, and a hint of mint. Near-medium body seems watery at first, but gets a bit sturdier at the finish. Well balanced and has medium-high but smooth carbonation.
3.5On tap @ Blind Tiger House. A really crazy nitro head on this one and the beer itself is deep dark as good as black in the glass. Not to much on the nose at first. After a while in the glass I get soft chocolate, some nuts and a little bit of ice cream. It’s really easy to drink this, and just as easy to like. Feels creamy (as expected) in the mouth and it has a soft carbonation level. Much the same nutty light roasted touch in the taste as it was in the aroma. Some chocolate and chocolate paper wraps this off. Really good for a lightweighter. 18.06.2013
3.3On tap at brewery. Pours a black color with ruby highlights, with a very dense tan head. Rich, malty and chocolaty aroma. Flavors of roasted barley with little malt sweetness, light coffee, some hops. Light and smooth, with very little carbonation.
3.3Tap on nitro. Pours dark brown with thick, creamy beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, raisins, earthy notes, and floral notes. Flavor is dry malts, light earthy hop bitterness, and some dark fruit esters; dry finish. Mesiut body and carbonation.
2.3Pours black with heavy and thick white head. Has a light aroma with coffee and chocolate. Has a strong coffee bean taste with some yeast and malt. Bitter aftertaste.
3.2Tap at the Ginger Man, Manhattan, 18/05/13.
Pitch black with a big tan head that retains well.
Nose is light roast, dark malt, mineral notes, light sugar, toasted malt.
Taste comprises light roast, touch of chocolate.
Medium bodied with fine carbonation.
Drinkable but a little bland.
3.9Poured as part of a flight. Nice creamy head, smoky coffee on the nose, and a creamy mouthfeel. Bit overbalanced towards the coffee flavors, but pretty good.
3.6NYC Trip Beer #6. In my notes I simply wrote "Guinness Redux." This isn’t a bad thing, except that Guinness is cheap and ubiquitous. That about wraps it up. Draft - Pony Bar - New York, NY
3.5Looks like guiness. Foamy, dry and light. A little harsher finish than a guiness. Very nice with the low abv and smoothness. Very sessionable, light body. Very rarely order a guiness, and I might actually order this one first. Well done. Should come in cans.
3.5Definitely dry! Wow, never had a stout quite like this. Aroma is roasty. Pour is a pretty dark brown with a nice tan head. The taste is crazy dry & certainly not refreshing. Interesting but not great!
3.6Nitro. Black color, massive thick tan head with good retention and spotty lacing. Aroma of cocoa, subtle licorice. Taste is chocolate covered coffee grounds. Not bad.
3.6Draft. Standard pint shows a deep black color with a tall, thick beige head. Massive retention. Once this warmed up it was nice. Nose is roasted coffee, hints of chocolate with light cocoa powder. Taste is wonderful. It’s lots of sweet chocolate, roasted grain and coffee grounds. Smooth and creamy texture. Ends dry and bitter. If the ABV is still 3.6% WOW, what a lot of flavor. Nicely done!
3.7On tap at brewer. Beautiful dark brown pour with perfectly balanced white head. Rich flavors of chocolate and coffee. Creamy, though not as much as Guinness, according to the lady. ROAST
3.1Tap @ the Jean Bonnett, first night with potato skins, sample .. . pours a dark brown black .. light foam .. thin mouth, refreshing in a way .. . light tar and guinness syrup .. . nice abv level .. . pretty good but just a bit to lacking for me .. . . wrong way down a one way..
3.6Nitro draft at the Khyber. Decent dry Irish stout obviously basing itself on Guinness. This one is a bit creamier. Slight bit sweeter too. Dry malt flavors of cocoa and cappuccino. Not as good as the original but a viable alternative.
3.6This is an easy go to for multiple reasons. Many Philly area bars serve it as their stout or dark beer option, it’s tasty, and it’s low abv to name a few. Dark with a creamy beige head. Aroma has light roasted malts, cocoa, light burnt aroma. Flavor has a medium strength roasty flavor with light chocolate. Not a powerhouse but what is there is tasty enough and very drinkable. Lightly dry and roasted bitterness on the finish. Good stuff and a nice local alternative to Guinness.
3.6Smooth and delicious, not overtly rich or dark, but really well balanced. Thick creamy head, and dark color. Smooth body.
3.6Creamy bits of coffee chocolate round feel finish slightly particulate. Light ashy, acidic just off dry
3.8Dry with just a hint of sweetness. Pours dark brown with a full light brown head that lasts. Coffee notes, with a roasty aroma.
3.1Thick. Great head. Dark. Stormy. Very sweet. This is decent but not amazing. Tastes a bit like a bright new penny.
3.9Draft at Teresa’s Next Door. Pours black with an inch of thick khaki head. Even though the beer was two feet from me when it was served I could still smell it’s chocolate and roasted goodness. Very dry on the tongue with notes of dark chocolate. Finish lingers a bit. Very flavorful, great to session with.
3.4On tap at Tap and Mallet. Deep black color with a tall off-white head. Some aroma of roasted malts and chocolate. Velvety on the palate with roasted malts, chocolate, and some coffee. This was better than the dry stout I had acouple days ago.
3.3on tap at blind tiger. poured dark black, with gray colored head. aroma was roasty with chocholate scents. had a textured moutheel, but not creamy as I was expecting. this was the night cap and malty for a stout which ended a good night of brews
