3.3 12 oz can from Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh. Disappointing on taste and body. Didn’t seem to capture the German taste or spirit.
3.2 Similar to a lot of OKtoberfests, don’t have really anything to say wrong with it. Drinkable but not too exciting.
4.0 Can. Clear - copper color. Malty aroma. Mostly malty with some hops. Good representation of the style.
3.1 12 Fl. Oz. Can. Poured clear, copper, with a small off white fizzy head that left rather quickly. Aroma is a it weak, fruit, a bit of malts and some grain. Taste is malty and sweet, with some hoppy notes that give it a light bitter finish. Drinkable, and enjoyable, in my honest opinion not bad at all.
2.7 Mossy honey nose. Clear amber, medium cream colored head. Mild dried leaves, macroish. Light bodied and boring.
3.4 Transfer from BA review on 9-21-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served an orange amber color with a small fizzy white head. The head fades rather quickly leaving just a tiny level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is rather light overall consisting of a bit of a ready and lightly roasted smell. Along with these aromas are some light notes of light fruit and some herbal hop and spice. Taste – The taste begins with a biscuit and bready malt flavor with a hint of roast and a moderately strong caramel sweetness. The caramel takes on more notes of a brown sugar sweetness as the favor advances with the roast getting slightly stronger as well. In the end a little bit of a spice flavor of cinnamon and nutmeg as well as a bit of a citrus hop come to the tongue in the end leaving a lightly roasted and malty flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is average in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is average as well. Both are nice for the easy drinking and lightly roasted tastes of the brew. Overall – A nice Oktoberfest that is on the slightly drier and lightly roasted side. While not spectacular it is a rather nice drink.
3.2 Poured from a can from total wine and more in mclean va it is a clear golden color with no head. The aroma is not noteworthy. The taste is a caramel with a bitter resonance that lingers on the palate
3.1 From a can. Pours a clear copper with an off white head. Malty nose. Caramel flavors with some nuttiness. Bitter finish.
3.6 Clear golden color with a bit of an amber tint and an off white head. Color is much lighter than the norm for this style. Aroma is bready with toasted malt and caramel finishing with floral herbal hops. Smooth creamy feel in mouth. Caramel malty start with toffee notes finishing with herbal spicy hops. Flavor really improves as it warms.
4.2 The body has a beautiful orange amber colored body with just the slightest haze. From the aggressive pour I got a small creamy off white head. The head fades to thin covering that just hangs on to the end. On the glass it makes lots of slick spotty lace. Its aroma is very malty in a nutty sweet, bready way. There are also notes of sweet floral/spicy hops. I get a lot of bready and nutty maltiness throughout with mellow candy like sweetness. Hops add some floral spicy flavor, a little bitterness and a very slight sour note to the finish. It’s a good solid medium body with a smooth lightly carbonated mouth feel.
2.4 Bought a case of this a while back and was very disappointed as I’ve been with most offering by this brewery. Pours clear amber color with offwhite foamy head. Aroma kinda metallic biscut which reflected in the flavor. Sweet malt base with metallic burnt biscut finish. not a good Oktoberfest.
2.4 Amber pour, light tan head. Sweet and malty, not much else going on to be honest. Meh.
3.3 Tap. Pours clear amber with a medium, frothy white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is toast and cookie malt, earthy and spicy hops. Flavor is malt dominant with light hops and bitterness, a clean lager character and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
3.0 Clear golden body, medium white head, minimal lacing. Stone fruits, light crackery grains, light floral hops. Medium to light bodied, moderate carbonation, semi-sweet finish.
2.8 Can. Clear golden amber color, small white head. Aroma of hay and light biscuit. Taste is peppery hay, straw, light citrus.
2.6 Bronze body and sporting a lush, 2 1/2" thick head. Strong pilsen nose with a sharp, European/German hoppiness that dominates the aroma. Soft grains in the body with a some dank and crisp German hops. Dank, twangy pellet hop and tannic malt finish. Meh.
3.1 On draft at Tabor Road Tavern in Morris Plains. Pale copper complexion. Fairly thin, mild, malty and easy to session. Traditional to the style but not a standout.
3.3 can pours translucent amber orange with a nice sized foam head. biscuits, bread, pretzels, light wisping bitterness with flashes of flowers all wrapped in a medium body that runs thin at times.
3.6 Pours hazed and very light amber with an orange hue . Lager bubbles coming up from the bottom. It had a finger and a half of loose off white foam that fell quickly to a thin ring and soapy wet lace as you drink. Nose is simple and yeasty lager smell. Bready with a touch of malt sweetness. There is some hop pungency on the nose and I thought I smelled a bit of onion. I will call it hop herbal instead. As it warmed the malt became a tad sweeter on the nose. Taste is terrific and light. It has a light bread with only a touch of malt sweetness that intensifies slightly as you drink. There is a hop presence on the palate and a gentle bitter on the tongue right before the finish. It finishes crisp and dry with silky bread to flow but no real caramel taste. It’s not that the malt is not sweet and only by the end of the glass are you noticing a bit of nutty or any toasted quality. The malt in this one is slow to be realized but it is there and by the end of the drink it has a bit more body. Carbonation in ample and mouthfeel is clean. I think sly fox has a great way of making very smooth lagers that drink very easily and flow across the palate like water. This one is certainly tasty and while you might start out thinking it’s too light by mid glass you are tasting hearty bread (with the crusts even) and a smooth malt. it may not have the dark color of other octoberfests but it drinks well .
3.0 Can. Pours a hazy chilled orange color with a bready wheaty taste. Flavorful decent beer. Pretty good
2.3 This one poured a bright yellow color with a white head. Aroma was of mainly corn and grass. Taste was similar, but sweeter and corn focused. Not good.
2.0 Doesnt taste like an oktoberfest/marzen. More like a dry lager. It poured a golden yellow with no head or lacing. No spices to speak of and a dry after taste
3.4 a nice rich malty note along with a spicy hop note. very clear, amber honey gold color, minimal head. rich malty flavor, medium body, not too much hop character, not much bitterness. a caramel note. soft malt flavor profile. clean finish. bitterness pokes out in the aftertaste.
3.2 Hazy pale amber thin rimming offwhite lacy head; not much aroma, slight sweet maltiness; tangy sweet malt Flava with notes of licorice; feels medium light crisp with nice fizz; finishes dry with malty grainy sweet nites
3.1 Can. Pours a clean amber with thick off-white head. Nose of caramel, dough, bread. Creamy mouth feel, medium body, sweet with a little spice and slightly metallic finish.
3.7 12 oz can purchased at Pinocchio’s Beer Garden in Media, Pennsylvania. The pour is a clear golden, with a smallish off white head. The aroma is fresh cracker malt, soft grass, a bit of hay, and just an overall traditional Oktoberfest nose. The taste is the fresh malt of the nose, paired and integrated nicely with the grass and hay notes. Dry, fresh malt grain character. The palate is light to medium bodied with the dry crisp finish. Well made tasty Oktoberfest.
2.9 Serving: 12 oz. can from State Line Liquors. It pours a nice amber color with a small off white head. The nose is muted with a little fruitiness and toast. The flavor is sweet up front with notes of caramel malt, slight earth, and a little fruitiness. Slightly oily on the tongue and lacking crispness. Starts to get almost a little cloying by the end. Not the best interpretation of the style in my mind.
3.6 From a can into a random DFH glass. Pours a light brown. Sweet aroma of very light brown sugar. Mouthfeel is light but not crisp. Tastes mildly smokey like most Oktoberfests do. Along with some sweetness, dirt and lemon/citrus. This is toned down compared to a lot of Oktoberfests that I've had and I like that. Great session beer and beach beer. Sly Fox really knows how to do the mid to smaller beers.
3.5 From a can...poured in a medium Duvel glass. Pours an orange amber with significant head. Aroma of straw hops, fresh bread, slight citrus. Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of straw hops, light malts, light herbs, grass, slight banana and pepper. Overall a tad light compared to many Germans but flavorful and crisp.
3.3 Pours yellow with amber hues and a fizzy white head. Smells like corn and bread. Big biscuit flavor, lots of bread and cracker, some caramel. Crisp hop finish. Really, a nice little marzen.
