3.2 How: Draught. Where: Earl of Essex, London. Appearance: Amber colour with a tan head. Aroma: Fruit, a bit sour, alcohol, yeast. Body: Medium body and carbonation. Flavour: Sweet malt, fruit, a bit sour.
3.4 Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma of malts, green banana, saison yeast and spices. Malty flavour, banana, cloves, bit bitter. Finish malts, cloves and green banana. (from 66cL bottle @ Earl of Essex, London. Thanks for sharing, RateBeer crew!)
3.2 Delicious and refreshing saison...not strong and cloying like the trend seems to be with this style. Aroma was a little weak. Light pilsener malt with heavy yeast character. Pour was a nice hazy light yellow with a two finger white head. Taste was nice and crisp. Heavy yeast and pilsener malt with a nice strong biting carbonation. No flavor dominates the other and the mild noble hops provide just enough of a spicy dry finish. Nice beer.
3.4 Bottle at Earl of Essex, Lindon. Hazy pale yellow beer with a decent white head. Fruity hop aroma, floral, hay, perfume, grapes, lemongrass, some peach. Sourish fruity flavor, grassy, perfume, mango, some hay. Decent beer.
3.9 Bottle - Light banana, citrus, grass and clove. Clear gold with a rich head. Effervescent, sweet yeasty esters, orange and a nice slight clove finish. Lively and refreshing.
2.9 Caramel, apple, funk aroma. Clear golden, thin head. Apple and lemon, dry. Not a whole lot going on and tame for the style. No off flavors though.
2.8 Bottle: Thanks, Ed. Dusty yellow, bright body with a bone white head that fluffs up nicely but recedes very quickly. Aroma contains apple skins with a mild tartness, some gummy yeast, bread, & a little bit of clove & minty spice esters in the finish. Taste follows closely with lots of yeast, apple skins, biscuit malt, & a hint of funky tartness. Brett, maybe? Touch of hay & a hint of clove in the finish. Dry. A little uneventful, nothing doing, really, but not bad, either. Decent.
2.9 Pale straw pour. Light, spicy aroma. Flavor has some spice and yeast notes, but body is a little thin. Overall this just isn’t a very good saison.
3.5 Transfered from BA review on 2-15-12 - Served on-tap in a 12 oz chalice Appearance – A medium golden body with a slight off-white head. The head is filled with large carbonation bubbles and upon fading leaves a bit of lacing on the side of the glass. Smell – The smell is largely fruity up front, with nice citrus and some more tropical aromas. There is a biscuit-malty aroma toward the middle which is mixed in with an ever so slight astringent “funky” aroma. Taste – A little on the sour side initially with some lemon and citrus. The more subdued sourness gives way to some hoppy and sweeter flavors toward the middle - sweeter citrus fruits with some more tropical’s; orange, mango, sweet lemon (lemonade) and even a little sweet apple. These sweet flavors are mixed with some yeasty flavors and a more sour green apple-lemon flavor, which come into play and rounds out the flavor profile. Mouthfeel – A lighter bodied beer with a moderate to fairly high level of carbonation. The carbonation suits the beer quite nicely with the lighter body making it quite drinkable, although its thickness is lacking a little bit and it could use a bit more. Overall – A nice “wild” brew. A little thin in the body which when mixed with the sourness makes it taste a little like an ale with a bit of lemon squeezed in (but just a bit; overall it is vastly better than this). It is well worth a try.
3.6 750mL bottle. Very grainy. Crisp and simple, but very nice. Dry. It's kinda like Budweiser in the finish.
4.6 Appearance: slightly hazy yellow/orange/gold, with a bright, fluffy white head that lasted forever, and with generous lacing. Aroma: smells awesome--big juicy-tart citrus (lemon, orange, some grapefruit), with notes of grass, honey, light clove, and slightly phenolic yeast. Taste: delicious--citrus, green apples, honey, crackery malts, white bread, a nice yeasty funk, and a subtle black peppery bite. Finish: tart, leaving a slight pucker, with a nice bit of citrus and spice, with a slightly dry champagne like palate. Notes: Oh man, I couldn’t wait to rate this beer. Absolutely wonderful. One of my favorite American saisons. What a find, would absolutely drink again.
3.6 Pour is a bright cloudy yellow with an average white head. Aroma is lemon juice with some nice yeasty esters. Flavor is a fresh fruit at first then comes some sugar and white wine grapes. Finish is dry and plenty of yeast esters. This was a solid saison. Very fruity and flavorful.
3.5 Bottle. Poured champagne color with an abundance of stubborn head. Very carbonated. Very crisp and clean as well as refreshing beer.
3.5 750 ml. bottle. pours a gold with a small white head. Smells of lemon and yeast. Smooth on the tongue with a malt sweetness and a light bitterness. Light and crisp on the palate with a clean finish.
3.5 Tap at CK thanks to craftycarl21! Good foam. Sweet pear nose. Estery, bright, mild diaper phenols. Taste is juicy, clean pear. Nice dough and honey bread. Very good. Sweeter saison, could use more hop balance. Still, pretty nice.
2.5 Draft. Crystal clear pale yellow color, white edge head. Aroma of medicinal lemon and straw. Taste is plain bitter straw.
3.5 GABF 2013. Pours a bit hazy golden yellow appearance with a thin off white head. Fairly spicy, peppery, lemon, light banana aroma. Pretty dry, lemon/orange citrusy, somewhat spicy, grassy, pils flavor. Pretty tasty.
3.6 This has probably been on my wants list for 5 years at least. Finally getting a chance to tick this one off. Split with the Saturday afternoon football and beer gang. Pours a light yellow with a big white head. A little more full bodied and sweet than many saison’s I’ve had lately. Nice peppery spice and a dry finish with effervescent bubbly texture.
3.7 Thanks Jrob21. Pours hazy golden with nice white fluff head. This saison was full of fruitiness, citrus, clove/spices. Fuller palate than most saison. Fruity finish. Quite nice.
3.5 The beer has a nice clear golden color to it with a well carbonated one head and minimal lacing. The smell of the beer has a mellow yeast scent, a small amount of spice and lemon zest that follows. The taste is very earthy with a nice spicey, lemon flavor to it. It also has some minor malty flavor that kind of lingers around tool. The mouthfeel is decent with a clean, crisp, mildly bitter finish that hangs around. Overall, a decent saison but nothing flashy or out of the ordinary.
3.7 Serving: 750 ml. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a hazy light gold with a small white head. The nose has light florals, lemon, and yeast notes. Floral on the tongue with a hint of pale malt sweetness and a light grassy bitterness. Light and crisp on the palate with a clean finish. No Dupont, but good.
3.7 C&C 750 mL bottle from Whole Foods Wexford, PA. Pours a golden color with a slight haze. Large frothy white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of bready malts, stone fruits, caramel, mild spice. The taste is tart stone fruits, bready malts, mild hops, spicy finish. Medium bodied, well balanced.
4.2 750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 1/27/2014. Pours lightly hazy bright golden color with a 2-3 finger dense and rocky white head with awesome retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big apple skin, pear, lemon zest, grape, grass, straw, floral, clove, light honey, bread, funk, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of fruity/spicy/funky yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of big pear, apple, lemon zest, pepper, clove, grape, light honey, grass, straw, bread, light funk, floral, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruits, grass, straw, clove, pepper, floral, funk, light honey, bread, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome balance and complexity of fruity/spicy/funky yeast flavors; with a good malt balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth and crisp mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent saison style! All around excellent balance and complexity of yeast ester flavors with moderate malt balance; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.
3.9 slightly hazy medium golden color, beautiful dense white rocky head. earthy, musty aroma, yeast esters. some bitterness mixing with mallt flavors, effervescent, spiciness. quite a solid, delicious belgian style saison.
3.4 A very nice saison - a style which I typically don’t like. A very pleasant floral aroma w/ a deep golden pour. It has a thin white head that leaves decent lacing. The taste is refreshing w/ a good amount of flavor. Smooth & drinkable at nearly 7%. Pretty good stuff!
4.0 Stamped 11/18/13, I assume best before November 18, 2013 Appearance: The body is a beautifully clear golden amber with a towering white foamy head. The head has decent retention and dissipates very unevenly. Aroma: The aroma is spot on for what I expect from a saison, dry, spicy, hay, semi-sweet malts, and a touch of citrus. I enjoy this. Taste: Sightly malty from the start Saison Vos reveals nice subtleties throughout of sweet leaning citrus to a light peppery overtone that lingers through the finish. This is great. Palate: Full bodied with lively carbonation, slightly sharp. Overall: This is a great saison, well worth buying again. If this were in cans in 6 packs I would buy it a lot this Summer.
3.7 Draft at Champs. Cloudy. Pours yellow w/ rimming white head. Apple nose, spice, coriander. Flavor is sweet with spice, clove and coriander, some basil and thme, rather dry and bitter.
3.6 Bottle from Whole Foods Devon. Pours hazy orange with a small white head that is gone very quickly. There is a lot of small carbonation bubbles in the glass. The aroma has a bit of a citrus note.. maybe lemon.. light orange? and a good bit of Belgian yeast funk. The taste is dry, funky, and has a bit of lemon zest. Good and cheap!
3.3 75cl Bottle, thanks Harmen! Clear deep golden colour, white head. Aroma of dry malts, light spicy, fruity esters, phenols. Flavour is medium sweet, malty, dry, sharp alcohol and fruit esters, light spicy bitter finish. Light-bodied, thin. OK beer.
3.2 Draft @ Phoenixville location on 15 Oct 2012 got a 10 oz. pour. Pale, clear yellow color. Average carbonation without much head. Nose is a mild wheat, grain and light spice. Flavor fell right in line with the aroma’s. Very thin body. I don’t know, something about this just really didn’t do it for me. Either I’m missing something or I wasn’t in the mood for it. I would order the Grisette before thinking about this one. Not bad in anyway maybe I will give it another try at a later date.
