This is beer flavored with spices. We like to think of it as a dark spiced Ale with vanilla and honey notes. Best served chilled or poured in a glass over ice. We know you'll enjoy it. We do.

Ingredients: water, barley malt, vanilla extract, sarsaparilla, anise, spices, caramel color, hops, yeast.

3.4 12 oz bottle. Been curious about this for a while, as a root beer lover. Pours dark brown, like cola, with a brownish head that immediately disappears. Aroma's are sweet, vanilla, tooth paste, honey, in other words: root beer. Flavor is heavy sweet with a touch of (nutmeg?) bitterness. Alcohol is definitely noticable, but it still drinks deceptively easy, probably because of the sweetness. Light bodied. Just a hint of herbal bitterness in the finish. A nice novelty, and I like it cause I like root beer, but it doesn't beat Virgil's.
3.8 First of this type of beer for me....very strong stuff (for me). Highly recommend this for those that like root beer.
3.0 I’m drinking this in a glass over ice as the label suggests. I would have guessed that this was a flavored malt beverage rather than a beer. Looks and tastes like root beer. A bit sweeter than some craft root beers but pretty typical for a large scale root beer. Aroma - smells like root beer. Appearance - looks like root beer. Taste - tastes like root beer. Palate - like you are drinking a root beer. So the story is that this is pretty much like root beer with an ABV. If that is what you are looking for it is quite good. If you are looking for a typical beer, even a flavored or spiced beer, this is probably going to be a little sweet and syrupy for you.
2.7 Taste: sweet spice, root beer, vanilla, and some alcohol bite. same with the nose. Dark Brown, clear, no head at all. Medium body. Slight artificial aftertaste in the finish.
2.2 Bottle from IGA, Cookeville, Tennessee. Not so much strong tasting in strength, but certainly in its medicinal character, which lingers long. Has a sticky-sweet texture.
3.5 The alcohol is hidden dangerously well in this. Pretty much tastes and smells like your typical A&W or Barq’s.
3.0 12fl oz bottle poured into a shaker. This looks, smells, and tastes just like a craft root beer. Alcohol is nearly imperceptible.
3.0 12 oz bottle carbonated but no head aroma is rootbeer taste reminds me of the rootbeer barrel drink shot of rootbeer schnapps dropped into a glass of beer
2.7 A root beery smell that comes across as more of an extract. There’s a slight note of anise, then a marshmallow taste that happen to I like, followed by a bit of a burn either from alcohol, or herbs that I haven’t run across before. Herbal note shows up at the end of the sampler, plus a background of wintergreen.
(Rating #7200)
3.6 The cola color with a no existant head. The aroma is vanilla and black licorice. The flavors are more smooth vanilla, spice, and some caramel and black licorice. A lot better than I first remember it.
3.1 Pours a dark, nearly black color with minimal head and lacing. Aroma is sweet with a slight root hue. Taste is basically a sugary root beer with a slight off taste due to the alcohol. Palate is that of a rich soda. Overall, an interesting detour of a beer connisuour but not something I would purchase on a regular basis.
2.2 Liian hammastahnainen. Eihän tämä oikeastaan pahaa ole, mutta ei sitä mitä oluella tarkoitetaan. Suutuntumakin hyvä. Isältä Floridan tuliaisia.
2.6 bottle. Poured translucent brown with no head. Sugary sweet, spicy root beer aroma. Light-medium body, high carbonation, sticky finish. Typical root beer flavour, notes of vanilla, molasses and peppery spice. Sugary sweet with a burning alcohol presence. The best spiked root beer I’ve tried but I don’t consider this beer.
1.5 Clear brown, medium head, aroma of medicine, sanitizer, dentist’s sedative, weird, sweet, medicinal flavor, sanitizer, sedative, not tasty, not fun, listerine, tarragon, mint, light bodied.
2.0 Really does taste alot like root beer, but a sharp booziness at the back and slightly medicinal taste ruin it. Serving: Bottle
2.7 chocolate, vanilla, brown, clear, minimal head, white foam, light sweetness, medium body, lively, long finish,
2.5 12 oz bottle. (Meijer) Lansing, MI. Dark reddish brown color with a tiny light tan head. Root beer... the aroma is pure root beer... Coke, medicine, brown sugar and vanilla. And the flavor is exactly the same. Root beer. Unfortunately I don’t like root beer.
3.2 Smells and tastes like root beer. Lingering aftertaste of something harder.
1.8 Pours like a cola--Well carbonated with a fizzy head that quickly dissipates entirely. Aroma of sassparilla and sweet cream. Flavor is....root beer; sweet and syrupy; slight herbal or medicinal aftertaste; very mild hop presence. Sticky sweet mouthfeel. Bleh. This would work well with a scoop of ice cream, but this is in no way a beer.
1.4 Bottle. Pours dark brown clear with a bubbly off white head. Aroma has Jenka bubble gum, toasty notes, cola, urinal. Taste is sweet, artificial, spicy, shitty, bad and horrible. Might be acquired taste, but holy balls i don’t like this! High carb and a shitty body.
2.5 330ml can. Dark brown, almost black colour. No head at all. Sweet herbal notes, vanilla, hints of spices, cinnamon, liqeurice in the aroma. Very sweet herbal beginning. Hints of spices, herbal notes, vanilla in the middle. Sweet and herbal finish. Rather medium bodied, low carbonated, very sweet, but interesting beer. Unfortunately way too sweet.
3.8 It's a kick butt fully loaded root beer, what else can I say? Seriously, love this spiced sweet ale. Now THIS is root beer! :)
1.5 Bottle, almost no head whatsoever, cola brown color, just like drinking toothpaste with caramel spices and mineral notes, much too sweet and sickly. Interesting but really not in a good way.
2.9 Bottle at Greene Turtle BWI. Dark amber body. Nose is malts, some spices and vanilla. Taste is sweet, malts and vanilla. Quite really like root beer. Creamy in the prickly finish.
2.3 Draught at Hops ’n Headz, Bellingham, WA Dark amber color. Smells like cinnamon toothpaste, then vanilla and some herbs. Very sweet, bubblegum, some artificial strawberry fruit and vanilla, toothpaste. Of all root beers I tried, this is not the most offensive; overly sweet, almost drinkable (if you are into this).
3.4 The aroma is of, well, root beer. I suppose birch and vanilla would be the main ones. Appearance is opaque black with no head/lacing. The taste is of slightly stale Barq’s, vanilla and birch. No real "beer" taste nor hops that I can discern. If you like root beer and you like getting drunk, I guess this is for you!
3.0 Really not sure what to say about this as it looks and tastes exactly like your A&W soda can of root beer. It’s super sweet and tastes like soda. I can’t really drink very much because I hate sweet soda like this. As far as rating it, I have no idea what to say....I guess they made a major commercial success by making a beer taste exactly like root beer soda. But as a beer nerd, I was hoping to try something more like beer that had some of the characteristics of root beer, not the exact same thing.
2.5 Syrupy licorice, ginger, vanilla, some roast. Moderate to intense sweetness, too sweet.. Not a fan of licorice
3.4 (12oz bottle) Pours a clear dark brown body with a medium tan head. Aroma of vanilla, sassafras, wintergreen, anise, and ginger. Flavor of sassafras, vanilla, molasses, licorice, anise, nutmeg, and a touch of honey.
