5.0 Rousse de grande qualité, la couleur est superbe, col a mon goût pas trop présent.
5.0 Best ale for me
3.0 Drinkable but not worth looking for again. It’s refreshing and not offensive.
3.1 Draft @ Gielty's bar, Keel, Achill Island, poured into a pint. Clear medium amber, small frothy white head, mostly diminishing, good lacing; aromamalt, grain, caramel; taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, caramel, candy sugar; malty sweetbitter aftertaste, caramel notes; medium body, watery to oily texture, soft carbonation; decent red ale.
3.4 Review: 500ml can of Smithwick’s Red Ale: 3.8% vol. Anytime I am back in the old country Smithwicks is my go to drink on tap, love it when I am out and about as it is an easy ale to stomach and you get a lot for your mileage! Albeit it does tend to make one go to the toilet a bit too often! Coming all nice and shiny in the famous red coloured colours on the can, with the logo of the castle representing the old city of Kilkenny, “Ireland’s Oldest Ale” Looks good on the pour, good creamy white head and a dark ruby red colour, as advertised! Nice enough to look at, with some good lacing and a head that sticks around. Bit of a disappointment in the smell department, in that it was pretty odorless, just the hint of the grains, the malts and the fruits, but very, very light on the nose. Light enough taste, soft and light bodied, easy going down the hatch, clean and crisp, nice and smooth. Getting a nice taste of sweet malts, caramel, the roasted barley and some fruit flavours. Hops are gentle and on the low level. Flavour and tastes are subtle but overall very well balanced to create a beer that is so smooth and clean and crisp in taste and in body. Light enough, slightly different to what I would normally have on tap which has more of a kick to it and the perfect session ale, a little better to what you would get in the can. Overall quite smooth and a nice and relaxing beer to have on a slow Sunday afternoon in front of the box. It’s simplicity is what makes this beer, no faffing around with mad potions here. The sweet malts and the roasted barely lovely on the tongue. Yes it’s a winner. The top easy drinking beer, albeit, as mentioned, the tap is far superior to the can, but that’s a given I guess. Always love me old Smithwicks, a fan forever!
2.6 Aroma of rich caramel malt with some corn. Deep red color with hints of plum, thick white head. Sweet malt up front with lots of bready notes. generic grainy sweetness with a dry bitter finish. Medium body with a watery mouthfeel. Average
2.7 Tap at scholars lounge , roma mild aroma mild flowery . Flavor is slightly citrussy, mild hard roasted malts. Minwral water. Fainter sweet dark caramelly notes
1.5 Draft at Brass Tap, National Harbour, MD. April 2019.
4.0 Light
3.1 Tap @ Maldron Hotel Newlands Cross, Dublin III 2019. Licht zoete ambere kandij karamel smaak. Origineel glas
2.4 Pours dark amber with a fluffy white head. Aroma of dark malt. Taste is sweet and malty, fee hop influences. Palate contains herbal notes. Not bad.
3.7 Reddish brown appearance, very smooth but also very ordinary, no hop flavor .
2.6 A malty-sweet aroma with some caramel - not very strong. The taste is somewhat too bland for me, certainly not bitter enough. I can drink it as an unobtrusive thirst-quencher, but very rarely experience the desire for that kind of beer nowadays.
3.9 Draught at Liam Fitzpatrick's in Sanford, FL. Clear deep red with a small white/yellowish head. Aroma and taste of biscuit and caramel. No bitterness, hint of sweetness. Medium full creamy mouthfeel. This is a refreshing change from the big hoppy IPAs that I love. Really delicious. Ordering a second one.
3.8 Canette de 500 mm. Une mousse généreuse qui disparaît trop rapidement. Une odeur de caramel et de mélasse intense. Un goût omptueux la mélasse est bien présente et très agréable.
3.7 An excellent Irish red ale. One of my favorites. Nice clean aroma with a great taste and finish.
3.0 From backlog. On draft at Tilted Kilt Orange. Reddish brown with offwhite head. Roasted malts, hops, Citrus and Caramel.
2.4 Found from bottle from Binnys in Plainfield. Illinois. I found it inviting and refreshing. It will never be a highly sought after beer and there is certainly a lot better options in pretty much every local market but it is solid and one of my cheap go to early Fall options.
2.6 Floral herbaceous, herbal cooked, and malty sweet toasty, aroma. Burnt toast and light caramel taste. Earthy finish. Deep amber / light copper color. Moderate bitterness.
3.0 Pint in An Pucan bar in Galway. Reddish brown beer with a white foam head. Nose is caramel, toasted malt grains, slight pine, bit of citrus, fruity, brown sugar, lightly sweet. Taste is caramel, pine, fruity, bit cola-ish, slight citrus with some hop bitterness on the finish.
3.0 500 ml can poured at home. Pours reddish brown with a beige head. Not a lot of smell but what I got was caramel. Tastes like caramel malt. Pretty watery. Okay.
2.8 Orange red with a foamy white head. Aroma is mild caramel malt. Taste leans sweet with weak caramel malt and grain flavor. Flat; dry. Slightly roasty. Mediocre bit quite drinkable.
4.6 Great taste. A mix of Strong malte and a little caramel. Wonderful time drinking this beer.
2.4 A tall can from BCLS North Burnaby. A reddish amber beer with moderate pale head and a sweet malted nose. The hop presence here is muted, with caramel and malt predominating. Lots and lots of caramel. Way too much caramel for this guy. 2.4
3.1 From bottle (just past BB date) in English pint. Pours clear, deep bronze with big off-white head, modest earthy aroma w/hint of brown sugar. Taste fairly rich for 3.8%, caramel, light bitterness.
3.8 A session ale at 3.7% abv. It is smooth and soothing, perfect for the long sessions or a second day on the bounce. It is subtle, not hoppy or malty, inoffensive but that is the point. Too few beers occupy this niche these days- a weak abv all day ale.
4.0 My new standard for ales.
4.3 Classic English style. Earthy and malty with a slight hop note. One of my favorites.
2.7 An okay Irish red tastes smooth but lacks body and aroma. St paddy’s staple
