3.5 Draught sample at the Portsmouth restaurant. This was a great lager, definitely near the top of my nice. Very lively and spicey in the aroma and flavour. Very easy drinking.
3.8 A good beer, Im drinking it as I type, 1st time trying it.....was expecting Boston lager more or less a little let down.
3.2 This was a enjoyable lager. Not too thick or heavy bodies but just enough to stick to your palate on the finish. Color was amazing, deep gold and looked alot sweeter than it tasted.
2.0 Golden yellow with no head. Aroma of mild sweet malt and grassy hops. Taste of sweet malt with mild hops and a semi-dry finish. Eh, premium lagers aren’t my thing.
3.9 12 oz bottle. Nice clean lager. Nice aroma hops. Medium amount of bittering hops. No off flavors. Just a solid lager. Good beer. As a homebrewer, I can appreciate the difficulty of brewing a good, clean lager.
3.0 On tap at Portsmouth Brewery. Served in pint glass golden yellow in color with a white head. Aroma was malty with grassy hops. Flavor was surprisingly fresh a slight malt in hte front followed by a spicy hoppiness.
3.0 Dull gold color, with large white head. Medium body and carbonation. Malty and clean with a dry, spicy finish.
3.0 12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a moderate white head that disappears after the first two sips and left no lace. Mild aroma of malt along with some grassy hops. The flavor is again mild malt up front with some hops bitterness at the finish. Hoppier than the typical lager, which is a plus, but not as smooth as some of the better lagers. An ok beer, but probably not something I’d come back to.
3.2 Pours a clear amber colour with a tint of orange. Thin white head, that is only temporarily visible. It quickly leaves behind a small creamy top. Aroma is malty, slight pear and a bit nutty. Mouthfeel is very full, flavors are semi sweet and nutty as well. Finishes very smooth, but light and refreshing. Very clear in taste.
3.4 12oz bottle. Nose is semi-sweet honey malts and semi-sharp wheat. A full bodied palate and a medium sweet flavor of pure cracked barley and clean wheat bread is refreshing, vibrant and pure in flavor. A light note of resinous corn hints at marzen, while the lighter wheat germ and saltine cracker notes signal pils. All in all it’s actually really tasty.
3.4 Draught. Pours dark gold, medium white head with good lacing. Aroma is toasty, maybe a bit of breadcrust in the nose. Taste is toasty, slightly biscuity malt, with a slightly floral hoppy note and a lingering, very delicate, clean bitterness on the finish. Body is light but not watery, with moderate carbonation. Great, very drinkable lager.
3.2 On tap at the brewpub during the KtG release: Like the rest of the beers in the lineup that day this was a really well-make and balanced beer.
3.5 bottle. really nice lager.... pours a deep golden with little head. a bit of bread in the aroma... nice full body for a lager. very even over the palate, with the hops coming forward from the back of the palate through the finish. wonderfully balanced between hops and malts.... very clean and crisp. definitely one of the best lagers I’ve had to date....
3.0 Bottle. Pours a darker golden color. One of the better lagers Ive had. Decent malt flavor. Clean crisp & easy drinking. Not bad
2.6 Draught, sample @ brewpub. Clear golden hue. Manages to be admirably boring in most ways and clean. Has a crisp hop finish and is quaffable, decent, and the epitome of average.
3.1 Bottle. Pours golden with a little head. Malty taste, ends a little dry. Has a touch of hops. Not bad.
2.5 Bottle. Noble hop nose, golden body, small white head. Not terribly malty, fairly clean for a US lager. Nothing very special here.
3.0 Bottled, BB 04/08. Poured clear, orangey-golden with a short, sticky cap of white head. The aroma picked up soft bready notes and caramel primarily with some wet grainy and and grassy accents. The flavor had a mostly bready base with a little toffee and honey sweetness down there.. light grassy and grainy bitterness on the sides with a hint of cardboard.. finished with dry, grainy caramel and honey sweetness. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation.. dry overall and spicier on the back.. not bad, but very average in all facets of the drink.
3.0 not a bad one, does have a nice texture, has a bit of a sweet hop flavor initially that turns a bit dry in the aftertaste.
3.1 Received from Beer of the Month Club: Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. Pour produced a slightly cloudy, golden brown body, topped with a medium head of off-white foam, which mostly diminished. Aroma is slightly nutty with malt thrown in. Initially bitter with a light, dry mouthfeel, this lager has moderate hopping, which overtakes the sweetness of the malt. Bitter hops aftertaste lingered for quite sometime. This is a slightly better than average beer that played a bit of a switcheroo with my palate. I was expecting a bit more malty sweetness and was given a dry, balanced hop experience.
3.4 Deep golden color......fluffy head. Malty aroma. Light malt flavor up front......slightly crisp mouthfeel. Balanced hop back, with a lasting bitter finish.
2.9 Draft at the Portsmouth Brewery - Poured a golden amber in color with a small whitish head that faded quickly. Aroma was malty with hints of fruit and flowery hops. Flavor was malty and slightly sweet with a very small amount of hops. Somewhat disappointing for such a god brewer...
3.6 Clear dark gold with a thin head. Fruity, floral, malty aroma. Sweet malty flavor with a hint of spicy hops. Excellent body for the alcohol. One of the best US versions of the style I’ve had and under rated IMO.
2.2 Pour is a dull gold with almost no head at all. Aroma is some sweet malts and nothing else. Flavor is again a slight malt with nothing really else going for it. Pretty bland and blah.
2.5 NIce golden color. Malty nose with a little bitter hoppy note. Taste is about the same, but the finish isn’t crisp, just kinda sticks around and gets stale.
2.9 12oz from a beer club. Nice rich color, gold bordering on bronze, with lively carbonation. Not much in the way of a nose to this one, but the body is fairly substantial. Very clean malts on this one, minimally present in fact. Some hops are there just a bit, but not quite as sharp or zesty as I want from a nice lager. Pretty average, especially for this kickass brewer.
3.3 Pours a copper color with a thick, well formed head. Aroma is dominated by malts, as is the flavor, with some hops coming through in the end. Very well balanced, great during a hot summer day.
2.5 light gold in color, on draft at Portsmouth Brewing. Nothing really special.
3.1 A golden yellow lager that is slightly clouldy in apperance. Mild aroma. first taste was hoppy to me but then it finished smoother than I expected. Good summer beer.
3.2 Medium yellow body. The aroma is fresh cut potatoes and some glazed donuts. The taste is light with some sweet character like more of the donuts. There is also a little bit of vagetable to balance this out. A decent brew, but pretty light in color and flavor for the style.
