Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale

Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale

Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale is our homage to the craft and heritage of America’s brewers. Recipes calling for the use of pumpkins in beer date back to early colonial times, when brewers sought to extend their supply of costly imported malt with locally grown ingredients, such as squash and "pompions."
In that spirit, we brew our ale with the addition of pumpkin to the mash, along with traditional spices to create a delicious American original.

3.3 Always queobro pumpkin beer is a beer hopefully surprise, as both the pumpkin spices. This beer is very smooth, too. I made it very indifferent.
3.2 Bottle, beer club. Pours amber with thin white head. Aroma and taste of pumpkin pie with a slightly bitter finish.
3.2 Clear, copper color. One finger thick, white head. Aroma of pumpkin spices ( cinnamon dominates)and malt . Taste is similar. Decent bitterness. Drinkable
3.3 Botella 33 cl en el kraken 25..10..2016. (r806).
3.2 Coppery color with a white head, good retention. Aroma has notes of ripe pumpkin and a some cinnamon. Flavor is slightly sweet, some cinnamon and spices. Light sweetness and spicy on palate.
3.4 On tap@: pours straw like golden with off-white tan head. Aroma-flavor: pumpkin, cinnamon, stone fruits, especially apples, some citruses...finish is dry...body moderate medium, texture soft, carbonation is moderate medium.
2.9 Light amber with white head. Gentle aroma of cinnamon and cloves I think. Taste is sweet and has flavors of the spices and a bitter finish. Ok but not great I think. Haven’t tasted many pumpkin ales though so I lack reference.
3.0 Pours amber/orange with frothy white head; pumpkin and nutmeg on the nose; subtle spice on the palate with a crisp refreshing finish.
2.5 Bottled from Systembolaget Hazy orange. Small head. Pumpkin and cinnamon in both aroma and flavour. Not My cup of tea.
BBD:12/17 Color amarillo, sabores especiado, cilandro, muy especiada.
3.6 Botella. Color ámbar brillante. No mucha espuma.
3.1 pours a clear golden amber. Aromas of all spice, nutmeg, a touch of pumpkin. Nice spicy taste with pumpkin notes.
3.3 Golden orange, ample tan head, very frothy. Spice, nutmeg, brown sugar. Malty, sweet, decent amount of bitterness. Slightly oily, medium body, chewy. Slight carbonation. Good.
3.5 bottle at home ... copper .. thin white lacing ... soft zezty peppery fruit... dry fruit .. big pumpkin nose ... soft toffee fruit . juicy pumpkin ... sweet malts .. soft fruit ... pumpkin
1.4 Pours a hazy dark amber from a bottle. Immediately cloying "pumpkin spice" smell, not sure where the pumpkin flavor is, I’m not getting it. For shame New England based Smuttynose. Tastes like a spiced rum drink. Blech. Should be noted, this was stuck in a surprise sample 12 pack from the local bottle store, a little disappointed because it’s past the drink by date, they’re totally just offloading their shelf turds.
3.6 Bottle. Aroma has malts and pumpkin notes. Malty and hoppy taste, pumpkin notes.
3.5 [7937-20151115] Tap. Mild fruity grains aroma. Hazy, orange amber body with a foamy off-white head. Bitter fruit grains and lightly soured gourd flavour. Medium body. Interesting. (8/3/7/3/14) 3.5 (@ Logan Airport, Boston, MA)
3.0 Bottle. Hazy dark orange with small off-white foamy head, cinnamon- pumpkin aroma, high carbonation, faint pumpkin and spice flavor, slightly metallic sweetish taste, medium finish with pumpkin aftertaste. Not bad but not special either.
2.5 Bottle from Denman’s Wine and Spirits, Vancouver Cloudy light amber color. Soapy and spicy, mildly sweet, quite bitter. The beer we don’t need.
2.4 12 oz. bottle, pours a cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out light pumpkin spices -- very simple and uninteresting. Flavour is simplistic, with spicy autumn notes (cinnamon and nutmeg) and not much else. What the hell are they going for? Pointless beer.
2.9 Bottle - Lots of soapy notes and pumpkin spice. Copper gold with no heat. Tastes much like it smells. Not good.
2.2 Aroma of nutmeg, cinnamon and wet bread. Taste is... well pumpkin I guess, but also nuts, herbs, Christmas and a wee bit of salt. Way too thin in the body and too much spices. Happy Halloween brothers and sisters!
2.9 Bottle from systembolaget. Pours a hazy golden colour beer with a medium head. A lot of pumpkin with notes of hops and herbs. Dry finish
3.4 Cinnamon and licorice aromas from a hazy medium yellow body and white head. Good pumpkin flavor with light cinnamon and nutmeg spices. Ends kind of abruptly but leaves a dry, light cinnamon and wood taste behind. Nice pumpkin beer, if not the best out there.
2.2 12 oz. bottle from Liquor Barn (Springhurst); split with my wife. Aroma: Spice heavy aroma with very light gourd; I’d guess nutmeg and/or clove are the dominant spices. Appearance: Copper, somewhat hazy pumpkin colored pour with a foamy white head that settles into a healthy ring. Flavor: Spice forward up front with more ale characteristics as this progresses; the finish wants to be bitter, but comes off as astringent. Palate: Light body, sticky texture, flat carbonation, astringent finish. Overall: It’s not a particularly good pumpkin beer; I wouldn’t recommend it, even for fans of the style.
Ganska plain. Går över i snäll efterbeska. Trevlig matöl, passade bra till mina halloumi-burgare.
3.0 355ml bottle from Systembolaget. Hazy dark golden, small white head, some lacing. Spicy aroma, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, herbs and grass. Crisp and light mouthfeel, medium carbonated. The taste is botanically spicy, ginger, cinnamon, herbs, pumpkin, hay and bread.
