Smuttynose Vunderbar!

Take a break from the Sturm und Drang of modern life, with this elegant, refreshing pilsner. Our brewers created Vunderbar! with both feet grounded in tradition, focusing on authentic German pilsner malt and spicy Czech Saaz hops. The result just might get you to shimmy into your favorite lederhosen, bust into a quick schuhplattler and loudly proclaim, “Das ist Vunderbar!”

3.8 Can shared with Jon, clear yellow golden with small white head. Notes of crisp pils malt, lager, wood, toast and grain. Refreshing and bitter at the same time from the saaz . Very nice pils.
3.9 Wow, this stuff is really good. Solid and authentic Pils rendering through what appears to be German malts and hops. The hops definitely taste Noble. A very fluffy beer with a fine fluffy head. Rich and smooth at the same time.....like any great German Pils or Hefe. No hints of DMS...another huge plus. This beer is closest to von Trapp Bohemian Pils than any other American Pils I’ve had. Very well done.
3.8 12floz bottle (BBD: 08.23.2017, $1.50), I’m not sure if the same beer as there isn’t an exclamation point in the beer’s name on this bottle (just kidding, I’m sure it is). This pilsner is in the German vein; straw in color and minimal foam, soil and grain aroma that provides a similar earthy, medium-light bodied palate. Tasty pils.
3.1 Bottle. Pours slightly cloudy pale yellow with foamy white head, sweet malt aroma, medium carbonation, slightly sweet crisp malty taste, thin body, abrupt finish with malt aftertaste. A nice Pilsner.
2.8 Bottle, 4.9%. Slightly hazy yellow with small white head. Aroma is malt, hop, grainy grass and a little cardboard. Flavour is malt, hop, grainy, grass, medium sweet, little hay and a little bitter.

3.1 Bottle from Craft Beer Store, Hamburg, on train to MBCC. Clear yellow with a white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, hay and light hoppy - grass. Flavor is medium sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 110517
2.9 Not bad, but I usually like pilseners slightly more crisp than this. Has the honey and a little hint of the hops in the nose, but more of the grain comes through in the flavor.
3.5 Very cloudy medium golden color. Lots of noble hops, acetone and cream corn in the nose - though it wasn’t horrible. Dry mouth with lots of cereal malt and cream corn. Not bitter enough but otherwise an interesting pils.
3.5 Bottle from the bottom of my fridge, with a curry. When the days nearly done and there’s a spicy tikka masala in front of you, who doesn’t just want a straightforward, clean lager? This is that lager. It’s got no detectable yeast aroma or off flavors, just a delicious, light, clean malt backbone and a lemongrass hop bite.
3.0 Refrigerated 12 oz. aluminum can poured into a snifter. Hazy golden with small white head. Aroma is crystal malt, light body, lower carbonation, and little carbonation. Taste is crystal malt.
3.7 Tap at brewery. Pours clear gold. Aroma is pislner malt, light straw, nobel hops, floral notes. Flavor is pislner malt forward with light hop bitterness, clean lager yeast esters, and faint grassiness. Light body.
3.6 On draft at the Portsmouth Brewery brewpub it is a clear light golden yellow with a slight head. The aroma is breadt and the taste ihas hints of lemon and nalt
3.5 On draft at the Portsmouth Brewery brewpub. Pours a clear pale gold with an off white head. Bready nose. Flavors of toast and lemon. Light bitter finish.
3.2 I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. It pours golden with a white head and some lacing. The aroma is lemon and biscuit. The taste is cracker, lemon, and honey. It?s crisp and dry. This is a pretty good one.
3.0 Taster pour from keg at NH Brew Fest. Appearance is clear, pale yellow (urine-like) with minimal sparkle, fizzy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is mild, crackers and yeast. Taste is as aroma. Palate is medium bodied with slippery texture, average carbonation with cracker and yeast crisp finish. Overall, light and refreshing. Not too much to it, but nothing objectionable.
3.8 Draft sample at the source. Clear gold with a white head of foam. Bread, crisp doughy notes. Crisp finish. Medium body and medium carbonation.
3.5 12 oz bottle. Pours pale straw with tall, long lasting, fluffy, white head. Aroma is of grassy hops and biscuit malt. Body is medium and crisp. Herbal hops and pale malt nicely balanced on the palate. Finish is long and dry. Very pleasant Pilz.
3.1 355ml bottle. Milky, yellow-ish golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Pale malty aroma with a touch of straw and hay, mildly grassy hoppy overtones. Taste is pale malty, hoppy overtones with a fruity touch of pear, mild hints of hay, very subtle sweetness.
3.2 33cl bottle. Leicht trübes hell goldgelbes Bier mit mittelgroßen weißen schaumkrone. Geruch staubig trocken, leicht grasig hopfig. Geschmack mild grasig hopfig, trocken, süffig. Okay!
3.6 On tap at this year’s Chicago Beer Society picnic, self served to plastic showing a lightly hazed, golden hue, a presentable layer of white head foam, and dots & dashes of lacing. The nose was soft grain, lightly floral, hints of grass, greenery, & lemon, with a typical but distinctive pils/lager scent. Light to medium bodied, with good carbonation, the taste added low bitterness, just a touch of tartness & tanginess that was slightly disconcerting, but a clean & crisp finish. A decent rendition of the style.
3.8 Poured into a pilsener glass, the appearance was a soft hazy burnt yellow with a sly transparency about it. Carbonation could be seen rising at a moderate pace to fill a one finger white foamy rocky head that sustained for a good minute. Delicate lace clung nicely. The aroma starts off with some honey-ed sweet biscuits rolling into some sweet grassy notes. The flavor takes the previously mentioned aromas to boot and slide into the aftertaste with a sweet wet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a crisp sweet semi-refreshing sessionability about it. Carbonation rides light in the feel. Semi-sticky smooth to the touch on my tongue. Overall, nice German pilsener, pass me some bratwurst while I put on my lederhosen and want more of this. I’d have definitely have again.
3.5 Can. Hazy light gold with a tall white head. The aroma is lightly sweet and spicy. The flavor balances light bitterness with just enough sweetness. Lightly bitter finish.
3.6 Sampler at Hayseed. Pours golden yellow with a thin white head. Leaves some lacing in the glass. Solid grassy notes on the nose. Kind of grassy and lemony on the tongue. Finished clean. Nice example of style.
3.3 Draft at Misconduct. Hazy pale gold pour with a runny white head. Light toasted blonde malts with some mild spicy citrus hops. Bread dough. Biscuits with lemon marmalade. Clementines. Dill. Thyme. Garlic shoots. Green grapes. Not wonderful but worthwhile.
3.4 Really a pilsner gusher, not happy! Lightly hazed straw color with a tall (duh) off-white head. Classic noble hops aroma and just a hint of lightly toasted malt. Light malt, bit of dough, slight salt and bit of dry grass. Has more a kolsch or kellerbier quality. 4/14
3.3 Not a fan of lagers and pilsners, generally, but this was a pleasant surprise. Hazy amber pour with a big, white head. Nose is grain and mild malt. Taste is well balanced and fresh.
3.1 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy yellow color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty grainy weak grassy hoppy aroma. Fruity malty grainy grassy flavor. Has a fruity malty grainy grassy finish.
3.3 Pours a cloudy pale yellow/gold color with a white head. Good carbonation. Decent balance with mild hops.
