2.933cl bottle at home. Clear dark amber with a small slightly off-white head. Medium body with low to moderate carbonation. Quite sweet with subtle bitter tones. Caramel, malts, brown sugar, some chocolate and spices. This tastes somewhere between a dubbel and a quad, not like an imperial stout. Not too good.
3.1Pitch black pour, with a generous light tan head. The smell is pilsner-hoppy alongside dark chocolate and coffee. It has a fresh taste as well, with hoppy bitterness and cocoa, dark chocolate and coffee. There’s also a metallic bitterness which I personally find not pleasing.
3.5Bottle 33cl. Ink black with a fluffy off white head. Spicy bitter aroma with a bit of rusty, metallic touch. The taste is a lot softer than your usual stout, but gets metallic and spicy near the end. Not too special.
3.5Aroma:
Roasted malts, caramel, vanilla, chocolate, slight coffee. Very faint aroma overall.
Appearance:
Dark brown beer with a creamy light brown head.
Taste/Palate:
Immediately starts sweet, with chocolate, vanilla and caramel; ends slightly bitter with coffee.
3.5Bottle at Briljant, Haarlem. Pours black with a light beige uneven head. Aroma is roasted malts, sweet chocolate, coffee, some vanilla. Taste is similar, maybe a bit too sweet. Creamy texture, light carbonation.
3.5Pours clear and nearly black with a small, tanned head. The aroma features fudge, tobacco and vanilla. Full-bodied with a skim-milk mouthfeel and adequate carbonation. The flavor is roasty and a touch bitter, featuring 85%-cacao dark chocolate with undercurrents of charcoal and caramel. Roasty, lifeless, carbonic finish. Bottle courtesy of Plovmand!
Zuur, licht bitter. Zacht. Mwah.
3.0Bottled at Maastricht beer festival. Dark brown with average foamy brown head. Roasted nose. Aroma is strong roasted malts with yeast and fruits. Flavour is malts, coffee, roast. It gets very sweet at the end. More like an alcohol boosted dubbel.
3.1Bottle, pours black with a tan head. Aroma: malts, roast. Taste: chocolate, dark bread, caramel, roast, bit of liquorice. Medium sweet, medium light bitter, light - medium body, thin oily texture and average carbonation. Somewhat harsh and fairly short finish.
2.8Pours black with a small beige head. Aroma is thin and has a notable yeast scent. Taste is pleasant and not very strong, some brown sugars and malts. Palate is thin and a bigger mouth feel would be nice. Overall a decent beer though not very special.
3.4Bottle split at LKS Towers, thanks to Leighton, 05/05/15.
Light black with a decent tan covering.
Nose is rich fruit, toffee fudge, chocolate, light spice, dates.
Taste comprises sweet malt, biscuit, toffee, light spice, chocolate.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, light charr in a drying close.
Ok impy, not overly complex but a drinkable offering.
3.4Bottle share at Leighton’s. Thanks to LKS. Very dark brown, small foamy brown head, light lacing. Aroma is toffee, tobacco, yeast, metallic, a hint of vinegar I thought. Body is medium, slightly foamy, low carbonation. Taste is dry and yeasty, some smoke and tobacco, dry finish. Not bad.
3.9Bottle. A strong aroma of chocolate and malt, weak alcoholic and sour, some raisins. The foamy-creamy head has a normal size with a long duration. The body is black. The taste is very malty, chocolate, a light bitter finish. The body is medium strong, very creamy and soft with a soft finish.
3.7Bottle shared in London - sourced from Ales by Mail. Pours deep brown with a frothy beige head. The nose has so e dark fruits, subtle cocoa, mild roast. Medium sweet flavor with further dark fruits, prunes, raisins, faint chocolate. Medium to full bodied with average carbonation and velvety texture. Nicely balanced on the finish, lots more ripe dark fruits, raisins, prunes, fruitcake, bread, slight cocoa. Really tasty overall. Not very ’stouty’, but quite good stuff nonetheless.
3.3Bottle at Leighton’s. It pours darkest brown with a small tan head. The nose is sweet, juicy, caramel, toffee, roasted malt, dried fruits, candy and plum skin. The taste is smooth, bitter-sweet, plum, date, raisin, roasted, toast, light spice and cocoa with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation, OK at best.
W tle delikatny przypalony karmel.
3.5Dark beer with some mahogany hues and a foamy beige head. Nose of light toast and and some caramel corn. Toffee sweetness with some puffed wheat, sweetened coffee, lightly burnt toast and chocolate in th finish. Decent imperial stout if a bit light for the style.
3.4Maistiainen Maljassa 3/2015. A bit too sweet and fruity for me, still not bad beer of course. Not as solid as imperial stout could be.
3.6Bottle at home. Pours deep reddish brown, nose is toffee, chocolate, taste is similar, dry.
3.8Bottle; pours very dark brown with a beige head; aroma of chocolate, roast malt, and coffee with hints of dark fruits; taste is mostly bitter but has a little bit of sweetness with coffee, roasted malt, and chocolate; has a bitter finish; not bad but could be better
3.533 cl. bottle @ home, bought online @ Biernavigatie.nl.
Clear dark brown with a minimal beige head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and more in general roasted malts. Taste is sweet-bitter with the typical bitter aftertaste. A nice imperial stout, lighter and more accessible than most IRS powerhouses.
3.6*Old rating, best before 06/09/09. Fruchtig-würziges, mild-weiches Bier mit viel Röstaromen. Dickflüssig-dunkel, feinherb ausgewogen, malzig-würzig. Lecker.
3.8Donker bier met minimale kraag. Aroma is drop, koffie en gebrande mouten. Smaak is ook stop en cacao. Erg mooi bier.
3.7bottle at a bar, poured a black colour with a big tanned mocha head, roasted malts, dark bakers chocolate, raisins, red fruit, plums, bit of smoke, could have used a bit more boddie.
3.4Pours black with a tiny head that quickly disappears leaving no lacing. Aroma and flavour are malt, liquorice, chocolate, minerals.
