4.0 Pours black with a medium head. Pungent aroma of coffee with a sweat initial taste followed by a bitter after taste. Oak and coffee.
3.5 Shared 12 oz. can poured to snifters displaying a black/brown hue, with a decent layer of tan froth that reduced expeditiously to a persistent ring, film, and spots of lacing. The nose was roasted, a balance of cocoa & coffee/mocha notes, and touches of smoke & char, with a little sweetness. Light to medium bodied, the taste was similar notes, with fair carbonation, and slight bitterness & dryness. All the right notes, but wished it was heftier and more robust.
3.8 Poured at Jakers in Boise a dark oily brew with a nice active tan head. Abundant rich roasty malt and coffee with a bit of burnt suger in the aroma. Flavor confirmed the aroma and a nice balance of the bitter with the sweet. Dark chocolate notes and some bitterness lingered on the palate. Most enjoyable accompaniement to a fine steak!
3.8 Shared can, thanks to hauxe. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of dark malts, dark fruits. Taste is dark malts, dark fruits, chocolate notes, coffee. Very nice.
3.6 At the brewpub in Jackson, WY! Pours an inky black body and makes a thick brown head that dissipates pretty quickly. Lacing down the glass. Aroma is of roasted malts. Tastes of coffee and toasted malts and a bit of smoke. Like it!
3.9 Aroma: rich and roasty; Appearance: pitch black with creamy tan head; Taste: follows nose with some coffee notes; Palate: heavy body with long sweet/malty finish; Overall: very nice stout. Would definitely get again.
3.9 355ml can. Filled 2/17/17. Pours a dark brown/black with a billowing dark tan head. Aroma is caramel, cocoa, mocha, and cinnamon. Flavor is herbal, raisin, cocoa, coffee, toast, licorice, hint of oxidative mint. This is prototypical for the style.
3.7 Can. Somewhat sweet. Very rich, almost chewy. Brownie. Decent. Thx Clownoisseur
4.0 From old tasting notes. Opaque black color with a rocky tan head. Rich roasted malt aroma has chocolatey notes. Smoky malt flavor with hints of cocoa licorice and coffee. A real chewy mouthfeel.mlong roasty malt finish an a dose of spicy hops to boot.
4.0 Pours black from the can into the plastic cup. The thick, frothy head lingers for some time amid sticky lacing. Aroma is burnt toast, smokey, strong tobacco notes. Taste is bitter, lots of smoke. Finishes the same, but turns increasingly dry. Body is thick and the beer has a rich, creamy feel in the mouth. Overall quite good.
3.7 On tap at the brewpub in Jackson WY. Opaque black body with an excellent very durable tan head. Aroma: light spicy hops, dark toast, licorice and alcohol esters. Flavor: moderate strength and high bitterness for style. Full body and medium carbonation.
3.2 Pours a black with khaki colored head from a can. Served a little cold, not much aroma, flavor is a heavy roastiness, dark toasted whole grain bread, nice medicinal bitterness. Good beer.
3.9 I went Ski’ing a couple of weeks ago in Wyoming and thus I had to try the local beers. This was one that I really liked. Zonker Stout. Very popular in the region and I can see why. Good lacing, nice head that slowly disappears, not overpowering but very tasty, a solid stout. I had it my first day in Jackson Hole and had it every day while there. I also brought six back in my luggage to enjoy when I got home. If you are in Wyoming, give this one a try!!!
4.7 Pours pitch black with a large brown head. Smells roasty with hints of coffee. Taste is bitter, roast and coffee. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and average mouth-carbonation, Snake River Zonker Stout finishes with a lingering semisweet bitterness.
3.7 Nice little can at home watching bat shit crazy new Nic Cage movie. Black pour not much head. Nose is roasted malts some earthy bitterness. Tastes of roasted malt, chalky, earth, coffee grind, so e grainy barley. Not sweet and fairly dry.
3.4 Nearly black pour with a tan head. The aroma has roasted, dark chocolate and coffee with a faint touch of vanilla. It has creamy body with somewhat flat carbonation. The taste is dry roasted with sweet undertones.dough,
3.6 Aroma is first and foremost roasted coffee, with some chocolate also. The hops are prominent enough to provide some balance with a fairly generalized bitterness. The color is black with a small to average light brown head. This is a somewhat sweet beer which I think works well with the roasted coffee and chocolate. The bitterness is rather generalized (at least as far as I can tell) but is pronounced enough to nicely balance the malt. The body is medium to full, a bit more on the full side. The texture is oily/creamy; the carbonation average and the finish is long with the roasted coffee, some caramel and chocolate and ending with the bitterness. Overall I like this beer quite a bit. The sweetness works real well with the roasted coffee and chocolate and the bitterness provides a nice balance.
4.0 Can, thanks Russ! Rich, roasted barley aroma with notes of chocolate and coffee. Pours dark brown, almost black, with a large light brown head that has excellent retention but very little lacing. Starts with roasted barley dominating the palate with a little bit of chocolate sweetness. Finishes smooth, but a bit dry with roasted coffee overtaking the palate with a bit of the chocolate remaining. A lot of coffee on the finish, but still a very nice stout.
3.9 Nitro at bgh. Chocolate on the nose. Smooth flavor and well balanced. Really nice.
3.8 Can, from dresden-- thanks Steve! Pours a viscous motor-oil black with a finely bubbled brown head. Rich roast, touch of molasses sweetness, hints of espresso and ash. Velvety and smooth, balanced bitterness. Very enjoyable.
4.0 Solid beer to celebrate that my US map finally are complete blue. What now then…. Looks really good. Especially the big lasting beige head. It leaves a solid lacing down the sides of the glass. Nice mellow chocolate and dark malt in the aroma with a fine intensity. Fine body and a smooth carbonation. Pleasant balance between sweetness and bitterness. Creamy nice texture as the temperature rises. Lovely smooth flavor. Chocolate, espresso, mild roast and some toffee. 3.8 Precious Metals, Brooklyn tap: pours black with a creamy, nitrous looking head. Aroma is milk chocolate, roasted malts, coffee. Taste is sweet but not too sweet. Underlying bitterness. Nice and smooth.
3.8 Aroma - barley roast, chocolate, and some light smoke. Appearance - the body is black. The head is 1/2" and bistre brown. The head slowly settles. Some suds wash. Taste - has a little smoke, roast barley, some chocolate, and a pinch of tobacco. Palate - full body, creamy texture, average carbonation, and a medium length slight roast astringency.
3.6 Can shared at the WWWW beer tasting at iphonephan’s. Deep brown with lite tan head. Bittersweet roasted malt and chocolate. Pretty good.
4.1 Draft on nitro. Black and thick with a lasting tan head. Roasty chocolate coffee aroma, some hop notes. Big flavor, medium sweet yet quite bitter. Chocolate and espresso. Thick feel, nice smooth nitro. Great one!
3.8 Can from RobertDale, Big thanks for helping me acquire this! Dark brown/ black color with a huge frothy tan head that persists forever. Roasty light fruit and earthy with touch of caramel and chocolate. Creamy thick body with a light level of carbonation. That’s a pretty good stout right there.
4.1 Great jet black pour with a thin tan head. Fantastic toasted bread aroma, no real hops. Flavor is on-point. Saw the beer on a craft-beer themed version of the Monopoly game and knew I had to try it. Man was I glad I did.
4.0 Big 2 finger head.. darker tan with fantastic lacing.. black .. black .. black .. no light shines through even when held to a bare bulb. Aroma is BLACK! Dark roasted ... dark chocolate.. etc.. only enough sweetness to be able to discern... cold coffee comes to mind. Roasted barley and black malt bitterness is very present.. but not out of hand at all.... bittersweet chocolate midpalate and a nice balance of malty sweetness... though just enough to tie everything together. Good body .. medium for the style.. sorta creamy finish.. lingering chocolate... earthy hops as it warms.
3.7 Can (12 oz). Thanks to dresden for sending this Wyoming tick! Stouty black with a medium brown head and good lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts, molasses, chocolate, a bit of ashes and some toasted malts. Taste is sweet but not overly so which helps the balance a lot. Body is medium to full (surprisingly so for a less than 6% abv Foreign Stout) with moderate carbonation, a rather silky mouthfeel and a roasty + earthy finish. Good Stout!
3.4 Pours a good black with a small beige head that leaves some lacing. Nose is of ash, licorice and intense roasted malt. Taste is of more ash and chocolate. A bit too much ash for my taste. Body is medium, carbonation moderate and mouthfeel a bit light (to my taste, anyway). Overall it was OK but I just wish the ash was a little toned down.
