Our imperial, Baltic-style porter is inspired by the strong, dark brews exported from Great Britain to Eastern Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries. Rich and flavorful with upfront notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee.

3.612 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured in very dark (almost black) shade of brown, medium tan head and some spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, dark fruits and some roasted malts. Taste is consistent, some coffee and a very nice and balanced bitterness from hops is also there. Nice enjoyable beer.
3.7Bottle pours black with big tan head. Aroma is chocolate roast and pine hops. Taste is very smooth mouthfeel with big roast and a clean and bitter finish
3.7Nice light roasted flavor throughout. Dark fruit, especially plum, light coffee, milk and licorice. Finish is a bit sour. Good medium feel.
3.8From bottle. Pours black with a medium beige head. Aroma of chocolate and caramel. Taste is chocolate, caramel, sweet with nicely balanced bitters.
3.8bottle to glass; bottle received from tgncc. been wanting to try a brew from this brewery for awhile and Baltics are my favorite. This was a good beer. aroma of sweetness - licorice and/or dried fruits, some roasted things also. darrrrk brown pour. really chewy mouthfeel - love that! Taste was good; not great, but damn close - great parts not sure it all came together - a little smoke, burnt, licorice, more sweetness; light hops. Thanks Tom
3.5Draft at Eulogy. Very dark clear brown pour with some lasting tan foam. Bit standard but has some interesting liquorice root notes in the back.
3.112 oz bottle purchased at John’s Grocery. Black appearance with a small tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, licorice, molasses, earthy yeast, chocolate, noble hops and caramel/toffee. Similar flavor, dark, malty, sweet and fruity with minimal bitterness. Tastes a little old and stale, no freshness date. Medium body, slick and smooth with soft carbonation. Meh, it was OK, a little disappointing.
4.012 ounce bottle into snifter; no bottle dating, but was released recently. Pours nearly opaque dark brown color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, molasses, caramel, toast, toffee, raisin, plum, dark bread, light coffee, light licorice, herbal, and roast/toasty earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity of dark/roasted malt and fruity yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt, caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, dark bread, raisin, plum, herbal, and roasted earthiness. Good amount of earthy roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roast, molasses, toast, dark bread, raisin, plum, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt and moderate yeast ester flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy, smooth, and fairly chalky/bready mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Baltic porter. All around good balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/roasted malt and moderate yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.
3.5Bottle thanks to a trade! Pours near black with a creamy brown head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has notes of musty dark grains with light chocolate, roasted malts and a bit of toffee. Flavor starts with dark grains and roasted malts with a bit of chocolate coming out in the finish.
3.0Taste is about what you’d expect from the type, except with some mild metallic notes at the end. Mouthfeel is watery for my taste. Drinkable, but not great.
4.0Southampton Imperial Porter has a medium, beige head, a dark, reddish-brown appearance, and some splotchy lacing left on the sides of the glass. The aroma is of sweet, roasted malt, some dark cherry, and bread crust. Taste is of those elements, with a rich, coffee and chocolate undertaste. Bitterness is present but is relatively low. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Southampton Imperial Porter finishes semi-dry, easy going, and highly drinkable for a 7.2% alcohol ale. Overall, I think it’s really good. RJT
3.4Pours dark brown and fizzy with minimal head - just a partial bubbles sheet. Looks a bit thin, but we'll see. Looks a bit thin, but we'll see. Aroma is mild chocolate malts and brown sugar. Taste leads with a strong hit of roasted grains and cola with some notes of coffee and chocolate. There is a fair amount of residual hop bitterness as well. Not quite as thin as I feared and with medium body and carbonation. A fairly active mouthfeel as well. This isn't quite Imperial, but is a very good porter. It grew on me as it warmed a bit.
3.2Pours dark, dense brown with a short head. Nose of roasted malts and barnyard goodness. Medium sweet, roasty, black coffee bitter flavor. Medium body, average carbonation, thin-sticky texture, and a very roasty bitter finish. True to the style but could be more dynamic.
4.0Black with a fast dissipating head of a light beige hue. Nose is sweet and roasty with a little cocoa creme and licorice. Flavor is really neat with earthy sweet licorice, earthy chocolate, some gentle bittersweet roast, a gentle molasses tone, and a touch of sweet porter-ish cola. A little bit on the booze ester, otherwise pretty nice.
4.012 oz. bottle from Total Wine, Chesapeake, VA. Cola-like dark brown pour (appears black in the glass) with a frothy light khaki head. Aroma of chocolate, nuts, and light smoke. Flavor is good and not too bitter with chocolate and weak coffee upfront and hints of caramel on the finish. Easily quaffable considering this is "Imperial".
2.7Had on on tap at urban tap in south side. Was excited to try an imperial porter but was disappointed. Boring and metallic.
3.8Bottle at Lincoln Wine Bar. Almost black, creamy beige head, nice lacework. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, smooth, fully body. Malts and a touch of licorice. No bitterness.
3.8Nearly black pour with a 2 finger, creamy beige head that has great retention and leaves a little lacing. Lots of chocolate, cereal and smoke in the aroma, some acidity, toffee and light charred dark fruit notes. Flavor is big on dark chocolate, smoke and charred roast, then lots of cereal, oddly strong with all the roast notes, dark toffee, light acidic and dark fruit notes. Medium body, creamy entry, medium carbonation and still creamy, but slightly acidic and thinner finish. Really good stuff.
3.7Aroma is toffee, dark malts and a hint of spicy heat. The flavor is dark malts, toffee, light spicy notes and an acidic/slightly sour finish.
3.5This one poured a darker brown color with a beige head. Aroma was of smoke, dark fruits, and medium roast. Falvor was similar, grapey, caramel, smoke and roast.
3.7Rich Baltic porter with aromas of caramelized malts, coffee, and chocolate. Not so complex, but a tasty, full-bodied beer.
3.6Bottle. This is a really nice big porter with a full rich roasted profile. Well worth picking up.
3.512oz bottle from total wine in tampa. Black pour. Roasty aroma - little vinegar vibe. Tastes are leather, toffee, raisins, earthy, dark chocolate bitter. Thin palate. Little metallic in the finish. Interesting, but kinda rough for my tastes. Definitely a slow sipper.
4.5Love it. Dark brown with tan head. Aroma of caramel malt, chocolate and vanilla. Taste follows nose. I could make this a regular.
3.4Old school English-style porter. Pours black with good mocha head and lacing. Dark chocolate with nut, some coffee, some booze and caramelized malt. Finishes sour after a moment. Bottle.
3.6Sixer from Sam’s Quik Shop. Pours a sorta thin-looking deep dark brown with a minimal head. Nose shows chocolate and plums, as well as some toffee and fig hints. But mostly I got a shit-ton of chocolate and plums.
3.8Bottle. Nose is dark and strong with a lot of roasting and just a hint at some dark bitterness in there. Taste is dark and bitter with just a hint at some chocolate underneath. Nice dark drink.
3.7Bottle. Moderate toasted cereal and strong coffee for the malt, light to moderate resin for the hops, earth for the yeast, with prune, charcoal and vanilla in the background. Head is small, fizzy, light tan, with no lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately bitter. Palalte is medium to full, slick with a soft carbonation and a chalky finish. Smooth and toasty, bold an tasty. Very nice Imperial Porter.
3.6Dark brown with yellow-gold at the edges. An inch of warm tan head. Moderate chocolate, lighter caramel and butterscotch aroma. bit of raisin bread and sweet cinnamon toast in the oven. Smells a bit lagerish, but the flavor gives it away. Creamy body of moderate heaviness. Flavor is bready cocoa powder to a clean, light bitterness of the forest. A decent Baltic porter, not a flavor bomb, but fairly consumable, a bit dry.
3.2Bottle from total wine Naples. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Some licorice notes on the nose. Caramel roast on the tongue which fades as the beer warms. Finishes clean.
