3.722oz Bottle. General honey, wheat chaff, and seltzer nose. Lightly delicate and dewy. Pours a beautiful honey gold, hazed. Nice prickly carbonation rises to a white head. Flavor has fresh tones of white wheat, clover honey, pale malts, and pastries. Lightly sweet. Very clean and exceptionally smooth. Alcohol very low in the profile. Hops aren’t particularly showy, but provide enough balance. I rather enjoyed this rendition.
3.8Draught at the SPH Brew Pub. Hazy orange pour with a thick tan head. Very malty aroma with some slight hops as well, but predominantly malts. The flavour is that of sweet malts with the ever so faint taste of good hops. Subtle yet distinguishable.
3.722oz bottle, extra courtesy of yobdoog. Thanks, dude! Pours a murky orange-amber color; light tan head with fine-bubbled lacing. Clean, sweet aroma showing plenty of dried caramel (slightly oxidized?) and dried fruits; not overly sweet at all, straightforward. This has actually held up quite nicely since it was released last spring. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: dried caramel first and foremost, with some chewy doughy notes and sticky caramel candies and vanilla creeping in; very tasty stuff with some age behind it, surprisingly; citrus and mineral bitterness creeps in slightly at mid-palate. Medium finish: doughy, bready, dry, with some residual caramel.
2.4Sample, at the Mondial de la bière, savoured June 2 2006; eye: golden, tiny white head, no effervescence; nose: faint odours almost undetectable, a bit of sweet, a bit of hops; mouth: tastes are almost undetectable, orange-sweet caramel, enjoyable average finale slightly liqueur-like

3.5Pours with a somewhat hazy, orangish tinged, amber color and is topped by a frothy, initially two-finger thick, tan colored head. The aroma is definitely malt focused with notes of green raisins, concentrated malt extract, a touch of honey, a dry bread character, dusty toasted grain and almost something that makes me think of oranges, but I wonder if I am just imagining this last note. A touch of herbal hop notes add a slight edge to the aroma, but really this is a malt dominated aroma.
Lightly sweet, yet with a chew, viscous texture to it. This beer rests on the palate with a full malt character that lingers on in the mouth even after the beer has passed. Flavors of light toffee, hints of butterscotch, caramelized malt sugars and honey-like malt form a substantial part of the flavor. That last note similar to honey seems to have wrapped up in it a soft, subtle note of oranges too. The finish has a very slight bitterness as well as a touch of sharp, herbal hop character & a hint of mint to it.
There is not a whole lot going on here, but, as a good Maibock should be, I really like the clean, pale malt flavor of this brew. It is accentuated just enough by the noticeable hops in the finish that add just a bit of complexity.
3.3(Bottle) Pours a lightly hazy orange body with a medium-sized creamy off-white head. Aroma of grass, floral, marzipan, and light fruitiness. Flavor of caramel malt, floral hops, cereal, and grain.
3.5Pours a slightly cloudy amber color with a small white head. Aroma is of caramel, malt, and slight hop. Taste is largely a smooth caramel, with an interesting hop aftertaste. Rather smooth throughout. I liked this one.
3.322oz bomber from moejuck in the mystery swap 2.0, no date. Copper orange with a one finger fading beige head. Aroma of sweet bready malts and a little bit of toast. There may have been light grassy hops, but I’m not sure. Flavor is sweet malts with toast again, not a lot of bitterness to be had, and a metallic characteristic that I tend to get in a lot of lagers, though it isn’t too strong here. Low carbonation with a light to medium body. Pretty straightforward brew that was very drinkable on a muggy 85 degree night.
3.3Pours a hazy copper with small off-white head hat fades quickly to a small spotty film and leaves minimal lacing. The aroma is of bready and sweet malts with light grapefruit citrus, lemon grass, and a bit of a metalic scent in the background. The flavour is bittersweet bready malts and a slightly vinous short finish. Minimal hop presence in the one. The body is a bit watery, but the the palate is crisp and smooth, making for a refreshing summer brew, or spring for that matter. I havn’t had too many Heller Bocks so I don’t know how well this matches up to others.
3.5Bottle. Aroma has light bread, grain, lemon, herbs and a touch of soap in it with pear and pepper in the background. Head is fizzy, white, mostly diminishing with good lacing. Color is a hazy amber. Flavor is lightly sweet and finishes lightly bitter and a note of salt. Palate is light to medium, watery, with lively carbonation. A very apt Summer beer.
3.3Bottle. Medium carbonation under a foamy, rocky eggshell head on an orange-copper body. Sweetly floral aroma, bready malt reminiscent of a good Helles. Taste is malty and less perfumey than the nose. Medium-light, quaffable body, nice rendition.
3.322 oz bottle bought in CT. Clear glowing orang with a beige head. Nose is malty with a little orange. Malty orange flavors, yeasts, hop residue, clean sweetness is balanced with citrus. Decent.
3.5Smells a little funky but looks fantastic. Flavor is malty and a little alcoholic, but mostly good. One of the betters of the style I think. Very heady and malty.
3.122oz, thanks holdenn. pours slight hazy orange not much head. nose has oats, cereal, wet grains. flavor has biscuit, cereal, and oats. mouthfeel is good and carb. in fine. pretty sweet and grainy.
3.2Light amber in colour, lasting beige coloured head, some patchy lacing. The aroma is quite rich, caramel and toffee, oranges, bready malts. The flavour is a bit musty and chalky, some chocolate, moderate sweetness, bready, light floral hops. Bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, fizzy, moderatly sweet. Its ok, just not the most exciting.
650ml bottle from Beers Of The World in Rochester, New York.
Purchased on June 30, 2006 for $4.95, opened on December 31, 2006.
No best before date.
4.0Rated 5/5/07: Light brown-copper-amber color blended with an orange hue, looks amazing in natural light. Fizzy thick white head that settles to a fine filmy layer, minimal lacing. Abundant aroma of super sweet maltiness, sticky buns, and peaches. Thick body with a smooth finish leaving a clean aftertaste, slightly dry and good on the chops. Real malty flavor complimentary to the sweet aroma. Fresh baked goods, honey, candy, and juicy fruits all jumbled into a hearty nectar. Powerful May Bock with a whole lot going on, well worth picking up!
2.9Bright orange and very slightly cloudy appearance. Head disappears quickly. Nose of caraway seeds, mandarin oranges and metallic fruit syrups. Quite sweet. Predominant sourdough taste imbued with lemongrass, buttered toast and wet grasses. Clean palate with a dusty lining. Finishes with a salty flourish amidst the sweet. Definitely has its interesting moments. Thanks Luis!
3.0Bottle courtesy of Moejuck: Poured a deep amber slightly cloudy color bock with a nice foamy dirty white color head with nice retention. Aroma of sweet malt is overpowering and a bit surprising for a bock. Taste is sweeter then expected and missing some of the nutty malt quality that I was expecting. Body is quite full with some adequate carbonation. Definitely too sweet for the style and not the best from this usually fine brewery.
3.4Pours a dark orange with a head that doesn’t last very long. Nice floral aroma. Smooth nutty floavor with a clean finish.
4.2This offering from Southampton pours a dark orange leaving a thick tan head that quickly disappears. The aroma is tart, sour, citrus, with a bready toffee ending. The taste starts bitter from the tartness in the hops, and is balanced by a smooth malty caramel feel on the palate, leaving a fresh grassy finish. This offering from Southampton is delicious even in during this snow storm in March.
3.6Glowing, clear and orange. Diminishing head. Aromas are kind of along the lines of sweet cider. Tastes of cherry, light caramel, and honey. Good weight and feel, long finish of spice and malt. Overall, a good beer in a style I’m not that familiar with.
3.1Nothing wrong with this beer, but May Bock is just not my style. This one is a lovely dark clear amber with a small foamy head, quickly vanishing. Taste of sweet malts, and, like a bock, the malts are the major compponent of the flavor, and, like a Mai, hops add a good bitter finish. A hint of hazelnut — I always find Mai and Marzen bocks nutty. Nose is malts and floral hops. Nothing wrong with it. I just don’t like it.
3.122 oz bottle. Pours hazy orange amber in color with small white head which does not last long. Aroma of sweet malt. Taste of sweet malt and grainy with bitter after taste.
4.0From a 22 oz. bomber bottle with a short blurb on the neck label, no freshness date, sampled at cellar temperature in a pilsener glass.
Poured a slightly hazy copper with a frothy, foamy white head, good retention, settled into a creamy lacing, a minimal amount of sticking.
Aromas of apples and green grapes, honey grains with a light caramel, softly spicy and floral.
Good moderate carbonation and a crisp, dry, velvety smooth medium bodied mouthfeel.
Very pleasant Maibock taste, apples, pears and grapes skins, honey, sugary, grainy malts, a light caramel toffee, a nice spiciness that lingers in the palate, a flash of alcohol towards the end, and a dry biscuity, spicy, fruity finish.
Another well made lager from Southhampton, tasty and balanced, a great way to welcome spring.
4.0Low tight head and a lucious gold color. Apple and sweet grain body, some honey notes. Spicy towards the end. Thickish body, maybe too sweet but otherwise an excellent beer.
3.622oz bottle shared with the wife bottle via Springslicker. A chill hazed golden/orange. A surprising aroma that didn’t remind me of wet paper. Malt is what it said it was! A flavor of malt and it almost reminds me of black pepper? Mouthfeel is good it is almost chewy. The carbination is through the roof for my taste. Very interesting beer and very good for the style. thanks Jay
4.1I don’t know what it was about this beer but I loved it. Poured reddish brown with a medium head. Sweet malty aroma and taste, for whatever reason I loved this stuff.
3.3This poured a deep orange body with a dense white head. The aroma holds caramel, honeyed bread, and a light grassy bitterness. The hop bitterness fades in the flavor, and this becomes awefully sweet to drink after the first glass. Still, a solid example of the style.

3.5Amber color with medium whitish head. Sweet and grainy malt aroma. Taste is quite sweet with plenty of grainy-malt flavorings. Overall, pretty good H/M-bock.
