3.5 Bottle from the Publick House (and not the new contracted brewed ones) at Peter’s 2nd annual spring gathering. Pours a milky yellow with a thin white head. Sweet fruit, musk and bits of yeast. Sweet plums and pear. Caramel and fruit on the finish. A bit of age starting to show on this one.
2.9 Taste at PilsnerPeter’s 2nd Annual Gathering From ’04 according to someone. Straight gold with a white head. The nose and flavor are shot here, no tripel elements remaining though I get a fair amount of alcohol, pepper, bubblegum, and celery. Quite watery through and through. I’ll definitely be looking for a younger version down the road.
3.4 Location: 22 oz bottle from Whole Foods-Bowery, 4/23/10 Aroma: The nose has some citrus to it, as well as a strong spice presence, and some sugary notes Appearance: Pours a mostly clear orange color with a small white head Flavor: The taste is medium-high sweet, lots of spice, and minimal bitterness Palate: This one has a light body, a somewhat oily mouthfeel, and a lively carbonation Overall Impression: Overall, I found this beer to be pretty enjoyable. A nice flavorful American attempt at the style. Good, not great, but very solid.
3.7 22 oz bottle poured into my Chimay chalice. A- body is a translucent golden yellow that pours with an impressive 1-2 finger eggshell white head. head fades slowly but completely leaving no lacing behind in the glass. cloudiness is dynamic and much more present at the bottom of the bottle. S- Nose is faint, but decent. Fruity esters of apples and perhaps pears are upfront, with a hint of spiciness, a hint of alcohol, and lots of yeast. T- flavor is similar to the nose. A light, dry fruitiness upfront with an accent of spiciness and a subtle yeast backbone. The finish is adds a touch of phenolic flavors but also has a slight presence of floral hop flavor. Slight remnants of the initial flavor along with medium strength alcohol warmth linger-but overall clean and dry. P-Low carbonation and light body with alcohol consistency and yeast fighting for dominance, but both are faint. O- This is a pretty good tripel overall. A bit boozier than my favorites but maybe this needs some aging (I aged Merry Monks and took that took care of the booziness problem). I may purchase this again but will cellar for awhile before retasting. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-04-2008 02:51:06
4.2 Very reminisant of one of my favorites of the Abbey Ail type, Grimbergan, it poura a nice cloudy orangy brown color, very floral fragrent nose, medium carbonation, nice after taste, pleasing mouth feel. Southampton has made a very passable Abbey Style ale here, I look forward to having it again.
2.0 Flat and lifeless, no "pop". Dull palate that tasted almost watered down.
3.0 Pours dark gold with a thin white head. Caramel malt aroma, not much else. thin malt, fruity Belgian yeast esters and caramel malt taste. Disappointed.
4.0 750ml pours a slightly cloudy light orange with a small head. Aroma is citrus and tart. Taste of citrus throughout. This is a very smooth and refreshing beer.
3.5 Pours light gold into a trappist glass. Bright white head quickly recedes to hug rim. Candi and light bubblegum aromas. Thin upfront with hay and bread turning tingly and hot in the lasting dusty fruit and hop finish.
3.3 Draft. Pours gold with a white head. Fruity sweet aroma with some yeasty notes. The flavor is fruity and sweet with notes of peaches, citrus fruits, and spices. Not bad.
3.5 Bottle. Moderate aromas all around, with hay for the malt, grass and perfume for the hops, barnyard for the yeast, with hints of wood, spice and grape. Head is small, frothy, white and is fully diminishing. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium, dry with a lively carbonation and a very dry and lightly alcoholic finish.
3.2 Bottle. Golden colour with a white head. Aroma is floral, malt, fruit. Flavour is floral, malt, hop, fruit, yeast, alcohol. OK / nice beer.
3.5 Bottle. Rating #4500. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity spicy aroma with some yeasty hints and some hints of alcohol. Sweetish fruity malty spicy flavor with some yeassty hints. Has a sweetish fruity malty spicy finish.
3.7 Pours a one finger white head that vanishes quickly no lace. Almost clear amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Light sweet yeasty nose. Flavor is fruity and spicy. Good but not like a triple from Belgium. $5.99 for a 22oz bottle from Manchester Wine and Liquors Manchester, CT.
3.2 hazy orange with floaties, small white heda. yeast dominated aroma, boozy, bitter. flavor is faint fruity, bitter, faint sourish, caramelly, a little boozy.
3.6 Botella, courtesy of Pinball. Bit hazy golden orange colour with floaties, medium creamy white head. Quite sweet ripe fruity and yeasty alco aroma. Good mouthfeel. Sweet, ripe fruity, yeasty and pleasantly bitter flavour with some alcohol. Sweet fruity and yeasty finish.
3.6 Bottle, 22oz. A hazy, golden beer with microfloaties and a white head. White sugar, hops, citruspeel and qyute a lot of fruityness in the aroma. Flavorwise the citrus peel seems to dominate, with white sugar, bitterness and some alcohol filling in the blanks. Dry and a bit warming in the mouth. Bitter finish.A quite nice beer, not über-complex, but nice. 090724
4.3 Terrific offering. Yellow/Cream color and very little head. Light on carbonation. Mouth feel is fairly clean for a brew with such high alcohol. The aroma is of stong banana/vanilla/cinnamon
2.9 Bottle.Pours cloudy yellow with a thin head.Aroma is floral ,fruity with some malt.Flavor is sweet , fruity, yeasty and kinda bitter.Medium body.Kinda average and kinda decent.
3.5 Bottle. Darkish straw color, thin light white head. Lightly sweet and grainy aroma. Sweetish taste, not as overly done as some tripels, but doesn’t stray too far from the style. Decent.
3.8 Light, tangy, fruity aroma with a smidgen of yeast and skank. Tastes a bit like a hefeweizen that has been tinkered with - wheat malt, hops, some citrus, and a bit of fig, clove, and banana. An interesting group of flavors that blends together nicely. This reminds me of some Belgian blondes I have tried. Southampton Triple is a very drinkable and enjoyable Yankee Belgian.
4.0 Clear golden body with a thick white head, nice notes of citrus and hops, a very smooth, warming ale worth the time.
3.4 750 ml bottle from yobdoog. Pours a very slightly hazy golden color with a quickly diminishing small white head. The aroma was lightly toasted dry bready malt, yeast, light spices, floral and light fruits. The flavor is smooth with bready malt, dry, herbal, some spices, yeasty, slight citrus with an alcohol presence that increases as it warms. Lighter with low carbonation. Rating # 214 for this beer.
3.7 Bottle. Pours a golden body with a huge white head. Sweet and chewy with sugar candi notes, spicy yeast and citrus as well as a light etoh warming. Sweet and enjoyable.
3.0 Aroma is full of the banana bubble gum aromas, very typical of a Franziskaner or other hefeweizens. The appearance is a mildly clean amber with a thin ring of foam collar, some sud slow falling bubbles. Flavor is of a heavy yeast alcohol flavors with some definite dark wheat alcohol flavor, with some tart tannins and bitter hop flavors. The feel is mildly tart, full clean malt softness.
2.6 On Tap at Fuel and Fuddle.. OK, but no lacing or head, quite sweet. It did have a nice finish but quite a bit understated for a triple.
1.9 On tap at the mad mex. Looks like a pale american lager with a thin creamy head. Smells like a trippel, sweet and strong. No visible carbonation. Nice lacing on the inside of the glass. Creamy palate tho there is no real carbonation. Certainly belgie in nature but not as refined as the belgie counterparts. A little cloying at times on the back of the throat. OK for an american made trippel effort. Strong finish.
3.3 Experienced on tap in a tulip glass. The beer pours the characteristic medium gold with a small white head that quickly disappears. The beer seemed to be, given the style, a bit undercarbonated. Notes of yeast-derived esters come through in the nose. The palate brings grainyness up front, along with fruit. The finish is a bit sweet. Overall, a decent, but not great tripel.
3.7 Bomber courtesy of joeybeerbelly. Pours a hazy golden caramel with thin and foamy bright white head that settles quickly. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of candy sugar, caramel, honey, ripe fresh fruit, yeast, wheat, some hints of apple and spice. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of caramel, honey, ripe golden delicious apples, coriander, spices, a little yeasty funk. Generally medium body with a sweet malt finish. Respectable for the style but still not as good as the best Belgians.
3.9 Cloudy golden with a fluffy head. Aroma is a little spice and sweet belgian candy sugar. Taste is smooth and sweet with nice spicy aspect. Not too earthy and bright, nice. Pretty consistent too. Need to try older, aged vintages!
