Southern Tier 2XSMASH

Southern Tier 2XSMASH

2XSMASH is the newest in our line of single malt and single hop India Pale Ales, brewed with Mosaic hops and Special pale malt. Even simplified to one variety of hop and one type of malt, it is amazing how complex the flavor is. Mosaic hops are known for their luxurious tropical citrus notes like passionfruit and work absolutely brilliantly with the richness of Special pale malt. Cheers!

3.5 Strong mosaic hop aroma. Tropical fruits complement a strong malt profile with a tingly finish.
3.9 Pours a rust orange with a healthy frothy head. Aroma of syrupy malt. Taste is malty cherry sweet up front with a strong bitterness that bends well with the malt.
3.7 (Bottle) Hazy golden-orange body with minimal white head. Hoppy orange aroma, some pine. Flavor has pine resin with orange, and some floral notes. Medium body, sticky mouthfeel.
4.1 Canned from Frank's. Copper. Medicinal, herbal, phenolic, pine - all quite pleasant, malty. Pretty good.
3.1 Deep yellow color, nose is very light citrus. Very unpronounced aroma. Tatse is bitter hops with a muted citrus flavor. Finish is mildly bitter.
2.7 11/26/2017 (12 fl oz can): Toffee and Mosaic hops, but wet/muted rather than the usual bright/vibrant that I typically associate with Mosaic, orange candy; hazy orange color with a frothy off-white head; flavor is sadly much like the aroma, with some weak Mosaic hop flavor, but it's mostly caramel/toffee malt, very little bitterness, no alcohol detectable in the flavor despite the high alcohol, no depth or Mosaic complexity; medium to medium-full body, very smooth; Too much malt or just too big? Either way, the hops are muted and the Mosaic just doesn't pop or exhibit all of it's varied flavors like it should (there is some deep Mosaic hoppiness there, but it seems to be smothered by the malt). Very disappointing overall.
3.8 Can. Earthy pine/grapefruit peel, tangerine, and caramel malt aroma. Golden yellow with moderate head. Moderately sweet orange caramel malt, and moderately bitter pine/grapefruit peel flavor. Good body. Hops a bit subdued - great balance though.
3.8 Can: Slightly hazy amber with a tall beige head. BIG tangerine, pineapple aroma. Taste is sweet and tropical.....passion fruit, pineapple, sweet tangerine. Peppery, piney bittering. Juicy, almost pulpy feeling. Easy to drink, with just a hint of alcohol dryness. Very good.
4.4 12 oz can pour at home huge pineapple citrus marmalade nose clear orange amber color off white head with tight foam that lingers for a bit bitter grapefruit resin malt sweet balance. Excellent
3.9 A rich on the tongue and a clear beer for flavor. Though not my favorite local beer, a box combination brought this brew to me. Would I be disrespectful if I described this brew as ‘nutty’ without a particular reference to a nut? “Clear” is another word that comes to mind (tongue)..., maybe I like Mosaic. Gotta look into that....
3.8 Hazy golden color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of malt, floral hops, tropical notes, and citrus; Flavor of sweet malt, fruity hops, tropical, some caramel, and citrus; Finish is slightly bitter; Nicely balanced; Pretty good.
3.6 Golden-copper with white head. Citrus and pine hop aroma and taste, a bit too sweet. Notes: can from mixed pack, MA Sep '17
4.0 Pours amber with a film of light tan head. Aroma is bitter sappy citrus with a moderately sweet malt feel. Flavor is initially bitter but then rolls off the palate silky smooth.
3.2 8 week old can from mixed 15 > tulip A: Clear tawny orange gold with a finger of tight tan foam, retaining very well and leaving patchy lace. S: Mostly malty smell of caramel and honeysuckle with a little orange or tangerine. T: Sweet baked bread and some alcohol, with a hint of candied orange barely coming through. Oddly a bit like fruitcake or rumcake. A slight woody dryness to finish. M: Medium heavy body, low to average carbonation and slightly resinous finish. O: Not bad if you like boozy malty DIPAs. Not a favorite style though I am enjoying the 3 from the pack.
3.1 Pale golden pour. Floral, piney aroma with a bit of faint citrus. Taste is earthy, pine, bitter pine resin, faint caramel maltiness. Medium body and carbonation. Solid.
3.3 Poured from a can. Clear amber appearance. Floral notes, sweet. Malty and tart. Tasty.
2.8 A caramel mall aroma with notes of mineral hops. Pours a clear caramel color with a thin white head, light carbonation. A medium body with a bitter malt and hops taste. A bitter finish.
3.7 Sampled in the 15-pack overstocked variety pack. Has potential, but the alcohol bite was a bit overwhelming. More of a hop bomb, as the balance leans towards the bitter side. Enjoyable, but wouldn’t really go out of my way.
3.5 Medium amber with creamy off white head. Alcohol very much present. The grain side is rich, warm, malty, and a little nutty. The hop side is piney and a little citrusy. Faint anise aroma later on. Good balance, rich flavors but neither too sweet nor too bitter, slightly tart.
3.4 Aroma is way more malty than hoppy with an unpleasant stale bread quality. A little on the dark side for an IPA with an off white head. Tastes malty too but the mosaic hops show through and make it a lot better. Palate was dense but a little watery. I'm a big fan of southern tier but this one is not one of their better efforts.
3.7 This beer is a slightly cloudy orange-gold color with a medium white head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Strings of lacing. Aroma of citrus, hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of grapefruit, herbal hops and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a citrusy hop aftertaste. Above average overall.
3.5 12oz can. Clear dark amber with a thin white head. Orange aroma, flavour is marmalade, with a little caramel
3.9 On tap at brewpub. Light gold color. Off white head, good lacing. Fruit nose, perhaps kiwi? Sweet start, quickly dominated by bitter hops. Nice balance of sweet and bitter.
3.4 Good double India pale ale..................... .......................................
3.7 A nice dipa. But nothing out of this world. Very sweet light dank and some hop notes. Balanced and enjoyable.
3.9 Punchy, full, balanced. A good bit of citrus zest and fruity flavor with a hint of bitterness that comes with the hops. Nice and smooth overall.

4.0 12 ounce bottle. Bright honey gold is topped by a moderate rocky beige head an great lacing. Nice spicy hop nose hints at mango, grass and lime zest. Upfront, flavor is robust with notes of toasted malt, berry, tropical fruit and bubblegum. Wonderfully complex and spicy. Some boozy notes in finish. Quite tasty.
3.7 Draft at Ithaca Ale House. Pours golden with a white head. Leaves a shitload of lacing in the glass. Has some citrus notes on the nose. Lots of grass and floral notes on the tongue along with the malt. Finished clean. Solid double IPA.
3.4 12 oz can from Plaza Liquor in KC. Clear golden to yellow appearance with a fluffy, lingering beige head. Pleasant aroma of tropical/citrus fruit, zesty hops, pine, toasted malt and a touch of herbal spice. Similar flavor, fruity hops lead to a mild resinous bitterness and are balanced by a mild grainy sweetness. Medium to full body with a slight syrupy feel. Decent DIPA overall.
