Southern Tier 2XSTOUT

Southern Tier 2XSTOUT

Double Milk Stout

"2 varieties of hops & 3 types of malts"

Milk stout, also called ‘cream’ or ‘sweet’ stout, is a stout containing lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Because lactose is unfermentable by beer yeast, it adds sweetness and body to the finished beer. Milk stouts have been claimed to be nutritious, and were marketed as such in the early 1900s with claims that would make the FDA wince. One ad read, “Ideal for nursing mothers, for the healthy, for the invalid, and for the worker.” Surely! Of course, we couldn’t stop at a traditional milk stout. Ours is a double, an addition to our 2X line, and at 7.5% abv is every bit as delicious as it sounds. To your health!

4.0 Very good solid stout! If you like dark coffee flavored beers you should try it. Enjoy!
3.9 Aroma: coffee and roasted malt Taste: creamy stout with flavor of roasted malt, coffee with hints of citrus.
3.5 Bottle @home. Pours black, opaque, thin tan head. Nose is chocolate, lactose, toffee and licorice. Taste is coffee, chocolate, milky, roasted malts, bitter finish, nuts.
3.3 Draft at Macs Tavern. Opaque very dark brown/black watery stout. Tan foam. Medium-dark roasty malts. Cold coffee. Cocoa nibs. Vanillin. Carob. Hazelnuts. Raisins. Glossy charcoal briquette finish. Would be so much better on Nitro. Allow that this may be a poor draft.
3.7 Appearance is deep brown. Taste is sweet yet bitter with some roasted coffee. Overall very good.
3.7 12oz bottle pours black thin tan head aroma of coffee and a little smoke taste is medium sweetness with a lingering light bitterness
4.0 12 ounce bottle. Opaque black liquid topped by a large dense tan head. Subtle roasted malt nose hints at chocolate and dark coffee. Sweet roasted malt flavor has notes of bittersweet chocolate and robust espresso. An underlying bitterness throughout arises in finish with some resiny hops. Dry malt aftertaste. Reminiscent of Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, only sweeter. skunky,
3.4 September 20, 2013 - 12oz bottle at Pub Italia (Ottawa). Nearly opaque ruby-black with a smallish mottle creamy tan head. Aroma has lacto sourness, solid coffee roast, mineral and herbal bitterness - has most of the markers of a sweet stout with more bitterness. Taste follows - lactose, dark chocolate, mineral hardness and noticeable alcohol. Average body, creamy and somewhat still mouthfeel - decent enough, not all that memorable.
3.7 Bottled. 15cl sample. The aroma has roast, lactics, coffee, licorice. Black coloured beer with a medium sized off-white, frothy head. The taste is light bitter and has sweetness, bit roast, coffee and lactic tones. Medium bodied beer.
3.2 355ml bottle from the Beer Junction at Sofi’s. Bottlee on 2016-11-30. Pours an almost black with a tan head. Aroma is fruity and roasted malt. Taste is the same with some sweetness, sourness, high roasted malt and hoppy bitterness. Quite harsh and not very pleasant.
3.2 12 ounce bottle. Pitch black in color with small tan head. Lightly carbonated. Not much aroma. I like the sweetness off setting the stout bitterness. Very smooth on the palate and this is above average stout.
4.2 Awesome. Mellow and smooth, nothing gets in the way, but not boring. Just like a sweet stout should be. Easy in every direction.
3.9 Pours black, medium brown head. Aroma of coffe, vanilla, cocoa, dark fruit. Taste of sweet coffee, caramel, raisins, cocoa. Medium to heavy mouthfeel, richly carbonated.
4.0 Pours black, slightly amber with a rich aroma of malt with a hint of hops. Tastes of very sweet malt and hops giving way to a sweet alcohol finish.
4.6 Bottle from Total Wine Gainesville Aroma: roasty, chocolate, Appearance: black with a tan head Taste: medium sweetness, medium bitterness, Palate: medium body, creamy, average carbonation, long finish, Delicious
4.4 Bottle @ Whole Foods. Dark brown color. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Tastes of dark chocolate, roast and vanilla latte. Caramely goodness clings to the tongue. Very drinkable & smooth. Delicious!
3.3 Bottle. Dark cola pour with not too much head. Aroma of oatys, caramel and a milk sweetness. A fairly robust and oath version of the style. Roasted oats. Lacking a bit in sweetness too balance
3.8 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized tan colored bubbles that were quickly diminishing and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque dark black brown colored body. The mild aroma was dark malt. The semi-thick crisp mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish with a lingering mild roasted malt aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of roasted malt dark malt and hops. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again.
3.6 12 oz bottle. Pours very dark brown with nice tan head and lacing. Nose is dark chocolate, coffee and licorice. Taste is some coffee and hop bitterness. Bitter aftertaste.
3.4 Poured into a shaker showing pitch black with latte colored foam. The nose shows freshly ground coffee with hints of dark chocolate. The palate is light bodied and medium carbonated. Very smooth mouthfeel. Obviously sweet due to the extra sugar but not overly so. The finish shows a latte-like bitterness. Accomplishes what it sets out to do.
3.5 Tasted from bottle. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is cocoa and coffee. Taste has moderate bitterness balanced by sweet creaminess. Flavors of chocolate, vanilla, coffee, caramel. Well done sweet stout.
3.5 Pours really dark with a milky nose. Pretty easy to drink. A bit bitter but in a good way.
3.9 Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from Julio’s Liquors. Aroma is dark fruit and roasted malts with lactose and pungent alcohol. Appearance is almost opaque very dark brown with small light brown head with poor retention and negligible lacing. Taste is as aroma--sweet dark fruits over roasted malts and mild late alcohol. Palate is medium bodied with creamy texture, average early carbonation with late lively zing to the tip of the tongue, late burnt/ash quality to the finish. Overall, good but alcohol is too present and it is more carbonated than necessary.
3.8 341ml bottle from Craft Beer Cellar drank at 14C.Aroma: good nose of milk chocolate, wood. App: black with brown tint, small beige head little retention. Taste and palate: medium body, smooth, chocolaty, watery, subtle bitter finish. Overall: nose is great but this is kinda watery. As much as I don’t really enjoy the watery feeling it?s how this should be. Smooth, not too tasty, sweet with light bitterness. That’s how Milk Stouts should be. This rating is more based on what it deserves than how I enjoyed it. Well done!
3.4 Bottle @ Friends/the chef. Appearance: pours clear dark brown with ok soapy beige head and lacing. aroma/taste: milk chocolate, chocolate, coffee and some citrus notes. palette: medium to strong malty aroma, average carbonation, medium to full body, medium to notable sweetness, somewhat balanced by a medium bitterness, average duration and a creamy texture. Overall: Tasteful and nicely roasted milk stout - usually not fond of the genre but this one works well .
3.4 bottle: pours dark brown with a very thin tan head ............coffee and chocolate dominate but also has toffee and olive pumice aroma......medium sweet with medium body......some dried fruit and licorice taste ....chocolate taste increases as it warms up......slight bitterness at tail end ......
3.5 355ml bottle. Black in colour with a thin beige head, light lacing. The aroma is of lactose, white sugar, some vanilla, light roast. The flavour is sweet first with some roasty malts, light chocolate, nutty. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, sweet with a roasted bitterness. Thinner then their other stouts but quite drinkable.
3.6 Dead of Winter maybe the best time for a strong stout. 2X Stout being a coffee dominated sweet stout with full black body, tan head and strong alcohol warming fits the bill. Licorice, chocolate and roast round out the Double Milk Stout.
3.7 On tap at Hopcat. Super smooth on nitro. Great mouthful. Dark with a bit of booziness. Lovely.
3.5 Pours a dark black with tan head. Has a faint aroma of chocolate and malt. A strong taste of coffee, dark chocolate, hops, grains, vanilla, and toasted malts. A dry aftertaste from the malts and grains.
