Southern Tier Blackwater Series: Choklat

Southern Tier Blackwater Series: Choklat

“the ancients called it ‘food for the gods’“
The Popol Vuh, the sacred book of the Maya, unfolds a complex web
of mystery around a beverage known as xocoatl (ch-co-atle). At
Southern Tier, we’re not surprised that hieroglyphs of the ancient Maya
depict chocolate being poured for rulers and gods. Even through the
many voyages of Columbus, the mystical bean remained nothing more
than a strange currency of the native peoples.
Moving through centuries, the circular journey of cacao has been
realized in our brewing house, encompassing the complexity of the
darkest, bitter-sweet candy together with the original frothy cold
beverage of the ancient Maya to bring to you our Blackwater Series
Choklat Stout. We have combined the finest ingredients to tempt your
senses & renew the power & interrelation of history in every bottle.

4.4 Pours an almost gloopy motor oil black. Huge Belgian chocolate notes with hints of vanilla and coffee. Very similar to Young’s Double Chocolate.
4.7 This is one incredible beer! If you like chocolate, malty, sweet, coffee bean taste, this is the right beer. There is this spicy taste to it that really puts this beer over the top. One of the best I have ever had.
4.4 ?Ekstrakt: 25% wag. Słody: Karmelowy, Jęczmienny, Czekoladowy Dodatki: Słodko-gorzka belgijska czekolada, naturalne aromaty Chmiele: Chinook, Wilamette Data butelkowania: 23.09.2016 Kolor: Czarny, nieprzejrzysty. Wkrótce opadła do zera. Chyba pierwszy raz w życiu nalałem piwo pod rant szkła. W szkle wygląda po prostu przepięknie. Zapach: Wow! Nie wierzę w to co czuję! Najbardziej czekoladowy aromat ever. Miliony pralinek czekoladowych, słodko-gorzka belgijska czekolada, miazga kakaowa, melasa, kakao, cukier muskovado. Zajebiste! Alkohol? Jaki alkohol? Wysycenie: Niskie do średniego. Podsumowanie: Miazga!
4.0 Heavy aroma of chocolate, pralines, cocoa - smells like a dessert (maybe too much like a dessert - so much it feels artificial). As it warms up notes of tiramisu appear. Taste is sweet with some bitterness to counter it. Carbonation could have been lower. On the other hand it’s smooth and dense - liquor-like. Great beer although it could have had a bit less of artificial flavors (at least that’s what I think these are).
4.2 This beer is rich, kind of bitter, and absolutely brings the full force of its chocolate flavor, but man is it smooth as you finish it. If you’re not a stout person (I’m not), it may be hard to drink an entire pint (I had it with a flight), but what I did have was very encouraging.
4.6 22 ounce bottle poured to snifter black, dark amber on edges, brown foam that slowly goes away fragrant, chocolate, roasted nuts and fruity medium bitterness long good bitter finish, bitter sweet aftertaste, no sudden drop excellent beer ok to repeat, look for a bit expensive drank: February 10, 2017 11:33 PM
3.9 Pours dark brown/black with an amazing chocolate aroma. It’s a big beer but the finish isn’t like a dessert beer.
4.0 Intense chocolate, dark toasted malts, sweet pralines, moist, dark chocolate. Black, medium, creamy, beige head. Medium sweet. More very intense chocolate, milk and pralines, cacao, soft carbonation, full bodied, more chocolate in the finish. Beautiful, ridiculously chocolaty, intense but works very well. Bottle from Discount Liquor, Milwaukee.
4.1 Bottle from Brewdog online, back In the day. I don’t usually do memory rates but this one I distinctly remember. A luminous thick dark black brown coloured pour with a lasting mid tan head. Aroma is big dark choc, coco, powdered chocolate, sweet chocolate notes. Big dessert beer. Would be good on vanilla ice cream. Flavour is composed of big rounded smooth roast dark choc, sweet chocolate malts. Hints of coconut, . Palate is milky, medium full bodied, moderate carbonation, creamy. Lovely dessert beer.
3.9 Aroma caramel, chocolate, roasty, Appearance black, tan foam, brown foam, Taste medium sweetness, medium bitterness, Palate full body, thick feel, long finish, Overall a full bodied chocolate dessert in a glass. The name doesn’t lie. The 10% is well hidden. I would suggest this beer to a friend.
4.1 Appearance: Basically black, seemingly clear. Some dark tan head. Aroma: Dark malt, a bit of alcohol. Chocolate. Taste: Dark malt, coffee notes, quite a bit of chocolate. Smooth. Very good. Bought: Total Wine & More (Sterling), 355 ml, $4.99 Info: 8/11-2016
3.9 On tap in Greenville, SC. Pours with a clear dark reddish brown body topped by a rather weak head. Minimal lacing. Aroma: Irish stout with chocolate syrup. Flavor: like the aroma. A tad too sweet. Modest complexity. Feel: mediumfullt body. Smooth.
3.9 Bottled. Smooth jet black pour. Tiny head. Deep rich dark chocolate, velvety feel. Really good.
3.9 12oz bottle, pours a midnight black, plum, raisins and malts in aroma. Then nice smooth chocolate in taste. Glides down easy for the abv. Here’s to life.
4.2 Bottle: Pours black with a small tan head. Sweet, dark chocolate, dark bread aroma. Taste is chewy, powdered milk chocolate malt.... mild chocolate/cocoa bean bittering. Massively chocolate-ized....very smooth, rich, creamy. Excellent.
4.1 Delicious desert beer. Pours a jet black color, mocha head dissipates quickly. Aroma is incredible milk chocolate with lots of sweetness. Taste follows the nose with tons of milk chocolate, rich and velvety. Very low bitterness, smooth mouthfeel, and pretty clean finish. A superb after dinner beer that lacks the typical artificial flavors of the category - this one is legit. Will buy again. Would love to see this in 6 packs.
4.1 Sample at WOBFest 2016. Man, did we start it out right. This one is a winner - excellent chocolate flavor that completely hides the high alcohol content. Smooth, medium body goes down easy.
4.1 Bottle. Milk chocolate malt and light hay aroma. Black with small tan head. Bittersweet milk chocolate malt and moderately bitter herbal hay flavor. Nice body and balance. Very nice.
4.5 Bottle @ home shared with Dutchdrebus and Ansjelaah. Opaque dark brown to black color, medium sized brown head. Aroma is huge chocolate and chocolate pudding. Taste chocolate, chocolate malts, chocolate pudding. Unbelievable: pure liquid chocolate. Quite oily, velvety, thick and balanced. Wonderful beer. Exactly what the label promises to be.
4.6 Shared by benzai. Very good beer, smells and tastes like chocolat, very nice! Don’t know what else to subscribe.
4.7 Bottle @ benzai. Black colour with a medium sized off-white head. Smells chocoladevla mostly. Fucking love it. Tastes chocolate. Super taste, lasts long. Full body, soft carbo.
3.8 On tap at Black Bottle Brewery. Black appearance with a light brown head. Big chocolate aroma with vanilla, rich malts, light roasted grains and coffee. Similar flavor, adding mild sweetness and mild bitterness with hints of licorice and molasses. Medium to full body with a light boozy finish. Good.
4.2 on tap @ Hebron Brew Haus / Hebron KY --- Aroma of sweet malt and chocolate. Opaque brown/black color, beige head, stripes of lace. Taste is heavenly, addictive, chocolate malt. All it needs is a scoop of vannilla ice cream. Sure, it’s not a typical brew, but for dessert, it is one of the best.
4.3 Bomber into wine glass. Pours black, thin cream head. Nose of prunes amd chocolate covered dried cherries. Full, robust in the mouth. Tons of chocolate,a bit of today. Well integrated sense of light molasses. Finishes slightly bitter, and very long chocolate finish that just hours on and on and on. Excellent!
5.0 Best chocolate beer in the country hands down. Voted best beer brewed in NY in 2013 for good reason. My favorite Blackwater Series beer.
4.0 Bomber - pours like coffee, black with a fine thin tan head. Wonderful aroma of cocoa, chocolate cake, coffee and toffee. Big chocolate flavor with dark chocolate, burnt toast, burnt coffee and caramel. Full bodied, velvety mouthfeel and exceptional flavor.
3.9 Pours black, with tan head. The aroma is chocolate, molasses, coffee, earthy. The flavor is chocolate, backed up with alot of roasted malt, coffee flavors, molasses, earthy, finishes with bitter and slight alcohol. Hidden well. Very balanced, would recommend
3.9 Pours black with a full tan head; nice lacing present throughout. Aromas of malt, dark chocolate, and vanilla bean. Taste is a little thin, but overall a nice complex cocoa/vanilla flavor with solid mouthfeel. Good dessert beer, although the well-disguised 10% ABV means it may sneak up on you.
3.5 Aroma is very chocolately. Taste is chocolate and bitter. Overall good, but not great.
