Southern Tier Blackwater Series: Crème Brûlée

Southern Tier Blackwater Series: Crème Brûlée

“a stout of great contention”
We are not the harbingers of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that our brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Our response is simple; it’s all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and we respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent our deliciously creamy brew.

2.7 Candy. Beer for children.
4.5 Dark pour with thick foam. Sweet smell of caramel and butterscotch. Taste is sweet with a hint of hops. Very good and delicious Amazing!!!
1.9 Too sweet
3.6 Dunkler süßer Beginn nach Vanille, Brot, Lakritz. Röstig-alkoholisch, Schokolade, dumpf, Creme Brulee. Runder, langer malziger Nachgeschmack. Imposant! 11/10/12/12/11/11
4.0 Slipped on reviewing this as I sampled, so has been a couple months since I tried. It was a little on the sweeter side for me. I love Creme Brulee....just thinkin more for dessert rather than in my beer. Found their Imperial Mookah Stout more well-balanced. Still a solid dark/heavy stout, just not my preference for an IPS.
2.8 I am not a fan of this beer. I bought a 4 bottles and it has been a struggle to finish it. The problem is that I do not like the taste. It is that simple. I am a big fan of the Blackwater Series I liked Thick Mint, Warlock and Samoa This. So I was disappointed. The flavor of Creme Brulee is the main driving force here. Lots of alcohol is lurking in the background. Some creme flavor is present.
1.0 Get some
4.5 Bottle at home, it pours black with a thick brown head that disappeared quick. The aroma is sweet and vanilla. The flavor starts of vanilla and finishes with some chocolate. It is very smooth for being 10%, I would definitely recommend
4.2 Solid dessert beer.Very sweet and filling. Heavy vanilla.Nails the taste
5.0 roasty, resin, earthy, alcohol, brown, cloudy, frothy, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour, full body, creamy, soft carbonation, long finish,
4.8 Dark chocolate aroma, with heavy vanilla bean, ice cream milk. Pitch black pour with light mocha head. Taste is dark roast, toasted marshmallow, vanilla, coconut, milk, chocolate, sweet caramel, slight hop and alcohol finish.
5.0 We had this at the Bavarian Lodge and Lyle Illinois and October 2018. Wow this is a wonderful beer definitely a dessert beer you can taste the cream and coconut
3.5 Pours black with one finger, light tan head. Aroma is vanilla, roast and light pastry. Taste is brown sugar and toffee, moving to vanilla and cereal. Finish is toffee. A good dessert stout.
5.0 i love the taste of Vanilla and thought that it would be a great flavor for a Stout,i tried lower shelf vanilla stouts(non imperial stouts)and was always dissapointed that i had to look for the vanilla taste between the Cliche flavors of coffee and roasty nuts ect, well this not only met my expections,it exceeded my expectations, this is a Vanilla bomb Milk Stout, and truly a one of a kind Milk Stout,of course it is sweet,it is a desert beer after all,but this stout is brewed with such great craftmanship that it finishes roasty and hoppy totally balancing the sweetness with the malty hoppy bitterness that characterizes beer from soda pop like beverages,Creme Brulee is a masterpiece craft beer and although i paid around 20 dollars for only 4 bottles it was money well spent,if you have a litte bit of money to blow, blow it on this,it's the starbuck imperial milk stout
3.9 650ml bottle from Elizabeth Station shared with George and Ilya. Pours a very dark brown with beige head. Aroma is very sweet with chocolate, cream brulee and some vanilla. Similar taste. Very nice.
3.8 DATE: February 17, 2018... OCCASION: a long, strange, happy day that began with the end of Will's eleventh birthday sleepover, an intense snow storm, and a nice dinner with friends for a good cause... GLASSWARE: Duvel tulip... alright, another Blackwater offering! pours its ominous pitch-black body and a resilient, thick, off-white three-fingered head that laces with a ring of clustered bubbles... first whiff evokes eggnog, shortbread cookie, vanilla bean, lactic aromas, and the suggestion of light coffee bean... sips at a medium-bodied mouthfeel, textured and slightly warming... a long, lingering finish tells its 10% ABV--though flat at the middle--and bolstering in its presence... big vanilla and smooth milk make this an eggnog kind of dessertif, worthy of small, chewed sips... the malts are toasted enough to suggest the flame that accompanies the creme brulee itself, while supplying a thickening measure... sweet but not off-putting, tempered in its approach, with its late life suggesting cinnamon and cardamon... the coffee liquor reminds me of the coffee brandy I tried to impress my college roommates by drinking... butterscotch is the lingering memory--a smell that haunts my turning-twenty-one self to this day, but is welcome in the profile of this beer... this is probably my least favorite Blackwater offering--not a slam--as it weds flavors that I am not personally inclined to... still, quite a profile for an ABV this stiff, and fresh from the grunt... solid, not spectacular, but at nine and change for 32 oz., more than worth the money...
3.6 From Aug 2008 I got this bottle in a trade with zapata. Thanks Ben! It pours a really dark brown bordering on black. A 1" head of foam with some good lacing. The smell is wow. I've had a few vanilla brews before but this one takes the cake nose wise. I can't smell anything else. The taste has the big vanilla there but I also get some butterscotch, chocolate and cream. A dessert brew? You betchya! And as such, I won't be able to finish the bottle at one sitting. It has a thick syrupy mouthfeel and the carbonation is on the light side. It finishes supremely sweet and full of the vanilla. Great taste but like I said, I can only take it in relatively small portions and I don't really factor the abv much as it's pretty well hidden. It's more of the overall sweetness thing going on here. Bottom line: This is an extreme beer for sure and though I can't say its drinkability is up there with the best of them, it *is* a treat to drink. I can't do anything but place this one firmly in the highly recommended category.
4.0 Large bottle shared with Arve_Christian. Pours black with a beige head. Almost intense aroma of Creme Brulee. Liquid dessert. Sweet, but damn nice. Backlog from opening night at Schouskjelleren .
3.0 Dark black, thick and uncannily similar to the flavor of creme brûlée. Quite nice as a dessert beer, but too sticky sweet for anything else.
5.0 I really enjoyed this beer. The flavors were great and the drinking experience was smooth.
4.2 I know I am drinking the big beer the wrong time of the year but couldn’t resist and can say I didn’t regret my decision. Creme Brulee Stout. Very creamy and delicious with the definite taste of a hard-coated custard just as advertised. Why order desert when you can have a Creme Brulee Stout,
4.5 Great after dinner stout. Had at Eli Cannons. Beautiful, rich malt flavor. Chocolate stands out with a sweet dry finish.
4.2 Mcscrooges purchase. Drank June 22 2017. Don't remember the price. Recommended by Jason. Beer bought back in the fall. Sat on it awhile.
3.6 Bottle. Super sweet imperial milk stout. Not my favorite but very unique and interesting. Definitely craft
3.2 Incredibly sweet, with no detection of hops or bitter after bite (definitely not a beer you want to mix with something savory). Aroma/Taste: vanilla, burnt caramel and sour milk. A definite try for dessert beer lovers.
3.3 Bomber pours a black coffee color with a one finger dark brown head and medium lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel medicine. Taste is not quite what I expected, very medicinal, some banana, light vanilla, very syrupy. Bitterness is a mild medium. The aftertaste is the best part of this one. Definitely tastes better as it sits and the temperature increases.
3.4 DOB:12/12/2016 2015 BJCP Category: 30A Spice/Herb/Vegetable Beer (base style: 16A Sweet Stout) AROMA: As the name indicates, the aroma is of Crème Brûlée (vanilla custard). There is some dark malt sweetness, iced coffee, and minor alcohol presence as well. Simple but enticing nose. 9/12 APPEARANCE: Opaque ink black. Moderate tan foam retains and laces fairly well. 2/3 FLAVOR: Vanilla dominates the palette from beginning to end. Slight vanilla extract-like taste at first with a strong caramelized custard flavor on the finish. The dark malt is there mostly for backbone and does not create for much distinctive character. Bitterness doesn’t really emerge until the finish as does the alcohol. Strange combination of bourbon-like vanilla booziness and dry bitterness on the finish with a cough medicine-like aftertaste. The palette is delectable in small doses only. 13/20 MOUTHFEEL: Full-bodied with fairly low CO2 to give it a viscous, creamy texture. The 10% ABV warmth is gentle, but difficult to ignore. A challenge to drink more than a sip at a time. 3/5 OVERALL IMPRESSION: Definitely delivers on its name, but goes a little overboard on the sweetness. A borderline novelty brew. 7/10 TOTAL SCORE: 34/50
4.3 Szok. Jak Omnipollo/Funky Buddha :) Mega intensywny creme brulee, budyń waniliowy, solony karmel, krówki. Słodkie, intensywne, intrygujące.
3.6 Tap@Burp Castle, NYC, USA. Distinctive, bold nuances like rubber. Slightly artificial.
4.4 Totalne zaskoczenie. Aromat cudownie waniliowy i śmietankowy, intensywny i zachęcający. Smak słodki, pełno wanilii, laktozy, czekolady, toffee. Zajebiste, płynny deser!
