Southern Tier Krampus

Southern Tier Krampus

St. Nicholas, aka Santa Claus, is a magical figure, the bringer of gifts and an icon of holiday spirit. Forgotten by most is his evil side kick and enforcer of ‘the list’. European tradition says while St. Nick is busy delivering presents to good little boys and girls, Krampus hands out punishments to the bad. A fanged, goat-horned bully, the Christmas Devil uses sticks and chains to beat the naughty children. Dark malts and aromatic hops create the diabolical spirit of this brew. It is finished with lager yeast and aged cold for no less than 30 days. This Imperial Helles Lager will warm even the darkest hearts.

This season, replace the cookies with a bottle of Krampus. If he happens to pay a visit, toast to him with this devilish brew. Merry Kramp-mas to all, and to all a good pint!

3.4 Bomber bottle. Clear golden with a nice head. Citrus and pine in the nose. Very nice bitter lager with pine, light floral, and grasses.
3.3 Dark red/brown appearance. Sweet malty aroma. Taste is sweet, spicy.. quite bitter bite . Decent.
3.6 Poured from bomber. Had many years ago and decided to try again this year. Interesting holiday theme. Pours amber with off white head. Aroma is fruity malt, pine, bready yeast. Flavor is sweet, fruity, caramel malt up front with pine bitter finish, floral hops, and bready yeast.
3.0 Sample at whole foods, Auburn Hills, Mi. Aroma is vague, not particularly potent. Maybe some bready notes with a hop prominence. Slightly sour note?Flavor is actually pleasant hoppy, with a nice lager feel. Wow, not bad. Bready as well but a hoppy finish. Not super complex, but good.
3.8 Pour copper-burnt orange with a thin white head which quickly fades to very little lacing. Aroma is of pine, floral hops, spicy hops citrus, bready biscuit malts, sweet malts, caramel, and some light toffee. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and and a moderately bitter, semi dry, long finish. Overall, a pretty tasty, hoppy and crisp imperial lager that is a festive winter beer.
3.8 Not what I expected for the style, but after I adjusted to the hops, this is pretty tasty. Pours copper with thin, clingy white skim. Aroma is all citrus and pine despite my attempts to sniff some malt. Flavor is similar - hoppy with the slightest sweet in the hoppy aftertaste. This is okay, but one-time.
3.9 DOB 11/05/15. 0710 am This was poured into a pilsener glass. The appearance was a soft burnt caramel to amber color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Clingy white foamy lacing sticks around the glass. The smell started off with sweet bready to biscuity notes sliding over some grassy hops. Light lemon and a little bit of pine rounds out the aroma. The taste was moderately sweet with the bready to biscuity notes gracing all around the flavor. A sweet bready aftertaste runs into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a sweet smooth rolling texture over my tongue. Overall, as a Munich Helles Lager, it fits, not sure why its an Imperial Pilsener on here, probably only because of ABV but even the ABV isn’t even felt.
4.0 From the 650 ml. bottle dated 10/25/15. I’m drinking it 3 1/2 weeks out. Amber-orange colored pour with a long lasting big off-white head. Decent clarity. The aroma expresses itself with roasted sweet malts, pine, and floral hops. a slight sour yeasty note. Good medium body. The taste is smooth and clean with a modest and crisp hop finale. Tasty.
3.7 Amber, crystal clear, plenty of carbonation. Smell is crisp, some deep roasty notes, hint of booze. Taste is grainy, some ethanol fruitiness, phenols, pine and resin in the hops. Not hot at all. Nice clean flavor, especially for a lager this big.
3.4 Sample at Strong Ale Fest 2015. Comes golden red with a decent off-white head. Aroma of malt, citrus, and pine. Taste is malt, citrus, caramel, and pine. Pretty good.
4.0 Amber with foamy Lacy beigey head; aroma is hoppy spice ; Flava is rich blend of hop and sweet malt with notes of caramel grain and alcohol;McEnroe medium to thick creamy with decent fizz; finishes dry slightly bitter
3.4 Translucent orange yellow. Minimal head. Malt, citrus, banana, and hop aroma. Mid bodied and relatively creamy. Malt lager backbone is definitely present, but potent citrus, hops, and a wee bit of supplemental tartness are the most vigorous flavours. Good.
4.3 Pour is copper and has a light head. Aroma is pine and flavor is lightly lemony. Smooth.
3.2 Bomber to stem. Copper with small white head. A: citrus peel, spice, yeast, bread. T: bitter floral hops, spice, citrus peel. Eh.
4.1 On tap at World of beer. Not a lot of hops on the nose. Mild citrus taste, however very well balanced for the amount of alcohol. This is a very clean tasting beer.
3.5 Tap. Transparent golden with thin layer of creamy off white head. Aroma and taste of citrus and hops.
4.2 Pours clear and golden. Lots of hops in the nose. Mild sweetness and strong hop flavor. Warming and boozy. Very Good.
2.3 Bottle to glass. Pale yellow orange, medium head. Pine aroma, some barley and hops. A bit . Taste is not great. Just a raw strong, in your face beer.
2.9 This isn't a total drainpour but I did dump it. A bopper of this is too much. It's just unnecessarily big and far far too sweet.
3.6 22oz bottle poured into snifter The Krampus pours a mostly clear bronze with a decent beige head that doesn’t last too long. The aroma pine and floral hops with a bit of caramel and bread. The flavor is mostly pine and floral hops with a touch of honey. Overall this is a pretty nice and unique beer.
2.5 Pours a pretty light color with a light soapy head. With less head than expected. Aroma is not super strong but piney. Taste is really resiny hops... piney. Not sweet. Finish is a bit soapy. Unsubtle. Carbonation is moderate and medium thickness. Eh.
3.0 Aroma of hops, pine resin and a touch of malt. Pours a clear caramel color short lasting well laced cream head with light carbonation. Dry feel with a taste of hops and resin. Bitter finish.
2.5 Poured from a bottle. Clear golden color, medium white head. Medium hops nose. Medium body with a rather flat hops flavor and a medium finish.
3.2 Burnt orange with frothy head, lacing, and clarity. Pine, resin, sweet malts. Tastes better than it smells, because they is something off about the aroma that I can’t quite pin down (metallic in nature).
3.5 On Tap at 33 West Ale House (Dover, DE). Poured orange, clear, nice off white head and nice lacing. Aroma is hop forward combined with some malts and caramel notes. Taste is boozy, hoppy witha nice and balanced malty backbone. Nice beer, very enjoyable.

2.7 Bottle @ Three Notch’d Tasting. Strong stewed apple and spiced caramel aroma. Flavor of toffee bread. More apple. Hot boozy finish. Full body, oily. Pretty sweet. Not my thing.
