2.7 Heavy raspberry aroma, dark reddish-brown with very little head. Smells very sweet, but doesn’t taste sweet. Medium body, long finish, average carbonation. Not overly sweet for a fruit beer.
3.7 Good tasting beer. Little to no head. Reminded me of rootbeer a little. The wife didn’t like it. A bit too heavy on the tongue for her. Dark in color. I would drink it again.
3.2 This has the raspberry aroma, but not much of the flavor. Reminds me of a piece of candy. The flavor contrasts are interesting, but it’s just missing something.
3.4 355ml bottle. Light charcoal colour with a thin ghostly coating of fine bubbles that vanish quickly. Raspberry aromas dominate as you would expect. Strange combination of flavours that comes across almost like a burnt raspberry pie crust.Sweet and dry.
3.2 Thin fleeting head over a dark brown that was substantially thin in color for a Porter. Good fresh raspberry aroma. Some fruit in the flavor, not a pronounced raspberry; little else. Dry finish, light body.
2.7 Bottle. Pours a very dark amber with a stable head. Definitely raspberry on the nose straight up. The flavour I found to be too sweet. It’s sort of like a chocolate raspberry syrup, and it’s very dominant of anything else. Quite thin bodied and lacks any depth.
3.1 A bit of a curio. Nose is lovely with the raspberry jetting off on the back of chocolate malts. In the mouth its much the same though a bit cloying and the raspberry does taste like extract. Still an interesting beer.
3.2 First off this is the most unique porter I have ever had. Strong raspberries in the aroma with very subtle hints of chocolate and coffee. Medium bodied. I taste tons of raspberries and in the end I get a strong taste of coffee and chocolate. Not complex almost tastes like chocolate raspberry truffle ice cream I can get at Broosters.
2.8 This beer pours dark brown with ruby highlites. Chocolatey like milk chocolate covered raspberries. Flavors are wonderful but palate thin and watery, feels like something is missing. Good beer not great it;s like meat with no potatos, Pairs well with chocolate cover fruit blueberries ROCK!!!!
2.9 This beer pours dark brown with ruby highlites. Chocolatey like milk chocolate covered raspberries. Flavors are wonderful but palate thin and watery, feels like something is missing. Good beer not great it;s like meat with no potatos, Pairs well with chocolate cover fruit blueberries ROCK!!!!
3.0 Decent beer, though thin and a bit on the light side for a porter. The raspberry could taste a good bit more natural than it does, but it is a tasty beer none the less.
2.8 Deep brown with a reddish tint, off white head. Raspberry nose, raspberry flavor overpowering the malt... thin, watery finish. Ehh.
1.6 Biege head in colour good size red brown porter aroma strong raspberry caramel chocolate hint rich alround flavour raspberry rich chocolate as well roaSsted as well all sickly tastes to me to the finish no thanks does not work
3.1 12 oz. bottle from Belmont Party Supply. Pours a clear dark ruby brown color with a small, resilient beige head that leaves some lacing behind. Initial aroma of roast and coffee, but raspberry dominates more and more as it warms and gets lower. Also notes of chocolate and nuts. Flavor is also led by raspberry, with notes of coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, and hops. It’s more than the ’hint’ of raspberry Southern Tier claims. Body is disappointingly watery and thin, with a kind of gritty mouthfeel. Roasty finish, with most of the raspberry gone by then. I’ve had much better raspberry porters, but this isn’t bad.
3.4 I really like this beer although it probably isn’t the nice chocolatey porter that it should be. The raspberries really dominate which I like when it is very cold..as it warms, it becomes a little more well-rounded porter.
3.0 Standard porter, medium mouthfeel. The aroma has the standard notes of roastiness, chocolate. The color is just like a porter, maybe a slight tinge of red. The finish is the only place where the sweet rasperry flavor peaks out. The finish segues into a roasted flavor after that. Not bad, not remarkable.
3.1 12oz bottle: Pours to a reddish-brown, clear body with a small tan colored head. The aroma is fresh, slightly sour raspberries with hints of mild roasted malt, chocolate. Taste is fresh raspberries with hints of mild roasted malt, very mild chocolate. Finishes with notes of raspberries and dry roasted malt. Light-medium bodied, medium carbonated. Just a bit too light on the body and roasted malt/porter characteristics for me.
3.8 Bottle split with RyGuy. Pours a deep red body that seems somewhat thin. The aroma is strong raspberries. The flavor starts off with sugary raspberry and ends with a brief roast flavor. Great fruit beer.
3.1 pitch black with large white head, an attractive appearing beer and a great raspberry nose, very fragrant, unfortunately no other positive sentiments to profess. minimal roasty flavors, the raspberry persists through, not much to even record with this beer, very disappointint
3.4 On tap at RFD’s in DC. Pours nearly black with a medium off-white head. Aroma is mostly your typical porter profile - roast and chocolate - along with slight raspberry. Flavor is roasted and caramel malt, a little smoke, chocolate, and subtle raspberry notes. Mildly sweet with a tiny bit of fruit tartness. Medium-light body with average carbonation. Overall a decent beer.
3.5 From a bottle poured brown with a good amount of head. Nice light malty porter with a raspberry finish.
4.4 This pours a clear, golden, brown color, with mild ruby tinting. Almost two-fingers of tan colored foam make the head. Retention is very good and lacing is in sticky strands. Wow. The raspberry profile dominates the nose, much more than I had expected. It is a very wonderful scent, both sweet and tart. I can get just the slightest hint of dark chocolates trying to break through, also. You get the tanginess of the raspberries first. Then, the full flavor of the porter comes on. Roasted malt notes, light hints of coffee and a good level of dark and bittersweet chocolates. The chocolate notes combine with a good touch of raspberry sweetness, on the back end. These leaves the aftertaste filled with a presence of milk and dark chocolate covered raspberries, which is a nice, long finish. This has a medium to almost full body on it. The medium level of carbonation is good for it’s style, keeping it lively and active. It is smooth, with a very light touch of creaminess. This is a great sessionable brew. Relatively low abv content (4.80%), combined with a flavor that is way more than one-dimensional, make this one a keeper. Southern Tier comes through for me, yet again.
3.2 Aroma is straight chocolate covered raspberries. Flavor is not too sweet; more chocolate and a hefty dose of raspberries on the finish.
4.1 On tap at the pony bar in NYC. When I saw this sucker I knew I had to have it... Been missing out on this sucker for far too long! Rich chocolate and rich raspberry flavors.. Tastes like my morning coffee at cafe groppi. This might be the single most underated beer on this site.
3.3 Dark porter with medium tan/red head... aroma of chocolate, coffee and raspberry... a pretty decent raspberry porter with light fruit flavor
2.5 Bottle. Pours brown, settles in a bit reddish. Thin reddish head. Aroma is extremely weak; smells vaguely like raspberries. Weak body with an average finish.
3.5 The color is reddish brown. Fragile foamy head disappears fast. Looks watery, but also dark and substantial. Deep and rich, but not doesn’t look thick. Good lace. Smells like a coffee with a hint of raspberry. Both scents go together nicely. The bitter coffee and berry smells are good together. The berry is the dominant initial flavor; coffee comes after the swallow. A wheat flavor is present too -- somewhat. Not that complex, but nicely balanced. Like a black + red flavor. It’s smooth, but with the slight thickness of a porter. Good smooth/rough contrast in the feel. It’s a good sweet/bitter beer with some depth in the contrasting flavors. Both bitter + sweet are strong.
3.1 Bottle. I enjoyed this. Poured a murky brown with a reddish tinge, and a medium white head. Aroma of sweet roasted malts, raspberry, and caramel. Flavor is similar, fruity and malty and sweet, very smooth overall; a bit thin for a porter, however. I had this on a very hot summer night and it was still refreshing and welcome. I’d have it again.
3.1 This one was sorta disappointing. It’s more raspberry than porter, IMO. The fruit flavors are definitely there, it’s borderline too sweet for me. It looks pretty nice on a pour though. A rare miss from Southern Tier, in my opinion.
2.2 Blind tasting at Papsø’s Mahogany color; small head. Dusty and fruity aroma. Dry caramel flavor, harsh and dry berry fruit touch. Bad.
