2.9 Bottle picked up at Jungle Jims from backlog. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have toasted wheat malts, dusty chocolate, grains, hints of fruit, metallic, doesn’t finish well.
3.3 It pours deep ruby-brown color with 2 fingers thick beige head. The smell has caramel, strawberry jam and dried banana. The taste adds roasted rye bread and lemon. Still it’s light-bodied and low-carbonated.
3.7 the aroma is fruity and caramel with shades of toffee, berries, raisin and plum... the taste is caramel and fruity with notes of plum, toffee, milk chocolate and dark grapes... sweet and dry aftertaste...
4.6 I didn't take any extra notes when I tried this beer for the first time but I'm gonna try it again and update my comments.
3.6 Rated based on notes taken 14 July 2012 -- Man there is something about drinking fresh(-ish) German ales from German Bierhaus’s that just make them taste better!
2.8 500ml bottle. ABV is 5.1%?! Pours reddish brown with a small beige head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malt, caramel. Taste is chocolate, roasted malt and a bit of banana, and slightly sour. Expected more from this.
3.6 This is a dunkel beer from Germany. Its been around 1397 and has a medium look and taste/.
3.6 Tasty beer, lighter than you would think for a funnel beer, smells malty but the flavour is more like the regular spaten, just a bit malty aftertaste , good beer to have with dinner I would say
4.0 Это пиво вкусное. я, конечно, рекомендую его всем, что любит хорошую Craft пива!
2.5 Bottle. Poured a deep red with very little head. Soft carbonation. Minimal aroma of caramel. Very light lacing. Light body. Slightly bitter finish. Short lived. Semi sweet flavour with something I can’t quite place. Ok, but nothing overly special.
2.9 Bottle sample. Clear light brownish with small beige head. Sweetish prune aroma, carob, notes of honey. The flavor is as the nose, prune, carob, some graininess, date honey, a bit spicy, light sweetness and moderate bitter finish. Light carbonation, light to medium-bodied. Earlier Rating: 11/12/2014 Total Score: 2.9 Bottle sample. Clear light brownish with small beige head. Sweetish prune aroma, carob, notes of honey. The flavor is as the nose, prune, carob, some graininess, date honey, a bit spicy, light sweetness and moderate bitter finish. Light carbonation, light to medium-bodied.
3.1 "nothing spectacular, but a good session beer at the least. looks...um...like the picture. smell is sweet malt, honey, earthy hop balance. body thin but fits the style. could be better, could be worse, easy drinking flavor. "
3.8 Bottle in US. Wonderful sweet, nut aroma. Flavors comprise caramel, syrup, candy. No bitterness. Rich brown ale- is too sweet though.
3.6 Transfer from BA review on 2-6-13- Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – Pours a brown-mahogany color with highlights of red shinning through. Upon pouring there is a small off-white head that fades fast leaving very little lacing on the sides of the glass but a thin film floating atop the brew that lasts for quite some time. Smell- The aroma is heaviest of a caramel and toffee sweet smell mixed with some notes brown bread and a light amount of cocoa. Taste – The taste begins with a bready flavor of dark roasted malt with some light chocolate and caramel. The sweeter flavors that were present initially fade quickly as some flavors a more bitter grape/wine come to the tongue. This more bitter wine like flavor as well as a light herbal hop flavor, that comes to the tongue at the end of the taste, end up combining with the roasted malt and the light sweetness to leave a odd fruity, roasty, and somewhat of light bitter tannin flavor to be left the tongue. Mouthfeel – The thickness and creaminess of the beer was very average with a carbonation level that was average as well. The middle road fits this beer rather well as the darker flavors would likely be better with lower carbonation and higher thickness, while the wine like tannin and sweet flavors are likely better with the opposite (thin body and higher carbonation). Overall – While at first I wasn’t wild about the brew, it grew on me as I drank it more. The mix of the roasted flavors and the more fermented grape flavors create a rather soothing taste. Not bad.
3.1 Spaten Dunkle on tap Dark amber brown with a durable foamy beige head. Surprisingly rich and nutty aroma. This is followed up by the flavor which is nutty but not rich. The feel is a bit too thin and might benefit from a touch higher carbonation.
2.8 Overly sweet with lots of dark fruits, some caramel and some bread. Disappointing bitterless and slightly sour finish.
3.0 From a bottle. Pours medium tawny brown with a fizzy white head. Tastes malty, like stale grains, caramel, raisins. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like sweet roasted malt and raisins.
2.8 Bottle. Pours cola brown with thin, beige head. Aroma is toasted and cookie malts, light caramel and vanilla, light nuttiness, and faint woody notes. Flavor is dry malts, light toast, mixed nuts, faint dark fruit notes, and some woodiness; dry finish. Light/medium body and medium carbonation.
3.6 12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 8/27/2013. Pours crystal clear ruby red color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of caramel, toast, toffee, brown bread, light roast, raisin, pear, apple, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of dark/bready malt, yeast ester, and light hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toast, toffee, brown bread, light roast, raisin, pear, apple, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Zero bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of carmel, toast, toffee, brown bread, light roast, raisin, pear, apple, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Good balance and solid robustness of dark/bready malt, yeast ester, and light hop notes; with a very clean finish with zero cloying flavors. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming present after the finish. Overall this is a good Munich dunkel style. Good balance and solid robustness of dark/bready malt, yeast ester, and light hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A pleasant and enjoyable offering.
3.9 It has a deep reddish amber body that is very dark but also has good clarity. On top there is a thin light tan head that fades quickly down to a ring of lacy foam. The aroma has just a simple sweet caramel malty presence with no hint of hops at all. The flavor has a candy like sweetness with caramel, light roasted notes and very light floral hops in the background. The palate has a sweet malty finish, soft carbonation and a modest medium body that is very drinkable.
2.8 Bottle pour is carbonated coffee color with a slightly-off white head that dissipates quickly. No where near the class of a Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel. Lacks the chocolaty, toasty depth in aroma and palate I expect from a Munich Dunkel. Ayinger has much more body and mouthfeel and finish. Overall, the Spaten is okay if you’re on a budget, but why not spend a little more for the far superior Ayinger.
2.4 12oz bottle. Small beige head atop crystal clear copper body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, light orange/earthy. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, some orange, light bread, skunk. Light-medium body, light stickiness, effervescence.
3.0 Bottle. Nice and dark. Malty as hell. Nice beer. I like it. Have fun drinking.
2.9 330 ml bottle poured into large lager glass. Deep caramel color with a couple of fingers worth of foamy off-white head that sticks around for a few minutes before melting into a slick. Aroma is primarily malt with notes of tobacco and some slight skunkiness. Flavor is predominantly caramel roasted malt with some nuttiness. Light mouthfeel and a faint bitter finish.
3.1 An adequate beer, poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass, forming a thin, short-lasting head. Passable with pepperoni pizza. Much better in München with a bratwurst.
2.9 Bottle. Dark amber with very small whitish foamy head, caramel aroma, high carbonation, strong caramel taste, thin body, abrupt finish, slight metallic aftertaste. Not very inspiring.
2.9 bottle. Light brown with small head. Malty and lightly sweet. Caramel and light toffee. A bit below average.
2.6 Good clean beer. Dark color small dense head. Great taste very soft flavor witg a little bitterness at the end
