3.7 Das Bamberger Rauchbier ist weltberühmt. Das von Schlenkerla ist am bekanntesten, weil am leichtesten verfügbar. Aber da gibt es ja noch die kleine, feine Brauerei Spezial… Geht farblich gerade noch als dunkles Weizen durch. Feine Rauchnote – im Geruch und geschmacklich (deutlich dezenter als beim Schlenkerla Rauchweizen). Malzige, getreidige, säuerliche und fruchtige Noten (in dieser Reihenfolge) sind ebenfalls vorhanden und fügen sich harmonisch ins Gesamtbild. Einen echten Kritikpunkt gibt es: Viel zu viel Kohlensäure. Das passt gut zu hellen, fruchtigen Bieren. Bei einem dunklen, malzigen und (in besonderen Maßen) rauchigen Bier ist dies aber meistens recht unpassend. Hier darf es gern weicher sein.
2.6 At the source. Misty orange color, off-white head. Aroma is a bit smoky mixed with orange peel notes somehow, at least that's what it reminds me of. Flavor is wheat, slightly a tart hint and a tad sweetish yeasty banana. Medium to full body, but annoying high fizzy carbonation. Meh. 5-4-6-2-9.
4.2 Una weisse quasi ambrata (che già mi ha colpito) birra dal sapore rustico, il classico sapore di banana è molto limitato (questa cosa l'ho particolarmente amata), si sentiva come un retrogusto di legno. Bevuta a Bamberga il quel posto magico e nonostante non sia amante delle weisse il bis era d'obbligo..
3.3 Draught at Brauerei Spezial, Bamberg, Germany (€3.20/0.5l). Poured a clouded amber with 1cm of bright white foam that diminished slowly to a blotchy cap that laced poorly. Aroma moderately strong of cloves with hints of smoke. Taste strongly of cloves with moderate amounts of Smokey bacon plus hints of sweet banana. Light body. Smooth with cloves and sweetness on a moderately long finish.
3.5 Surprisingly pale in appearance. Light smokey character with some typical hefeweiss banana aroma and taste. Easy drinkable, spicey flavor.
4.5 [Bamberg 2018] Sampled @ Brauerei Spezial. Hazy orange, creamy lacing white head. Nose is explosion of vanilla desert banana. Amazing thick banana, vanilla, desert faint good plastic & faint complimentary mineral note, spectacular & stupidly thick.
3.6 On tap at Brauerei Spezial Bamberg. Hazy orange/golden coloured, medium sized white head, mild wheaty yeasty nose. Sweetish malty, light wheaty and yeasty, notes of spices and touch of banana in the finish.
4.1 Bottle from Hopfen und Malz, Berlin. Good weisse aroma, banana, cloves, wheat faint smokey wood. Traditional weisse flavor, mild, sweet malt, light touch of smoke. More smoke in the finish than but its mellow. I expected more smoke like Schlenkerla's weizen but this one is more of a straight up traditional hefeweizen. Easy to drink n very enjoyable.
3.6 Bottle from Biernavigatie. Aroma is wheat malt, spicy yeast, subtle smoked notes, mild clove, soft fruits with a touch of banana. Flavour is moderate sweet and lightly bitter. Medium bodied. Solid Hefe with great balance and smoothness, the subtle smoke works well. Good!
3.9 8-3-8-4-16 On tap @ Brauerei Spezial, Bamberg. Pours cloudy orange, with a creamy, off white head. Aroma is phenolic, peppery weissen yeast, as well as smoked malts with bread and toffee. Creamy, smooth body, with soft carbonation. Flavour is smoked malts, with bread, toffee and wood, as well as some peppery, wheaty notes.
3.9 50cl bottle @Spezial Keller, Bamberg. 06-08-2016. BBD: 15-02-2017. Stated 5,3º. Pours hazy deep gold-orange with frothy white head. Moderate head retention, some lacing. Banana, spicy nose. Medium body, average to high carbonation, crispy texture. Taste is wheat like, fruity, banana, spicy. Very enjoyable.
3.6 Bottle at home, hazy orange beer, small head. Aroma is wheat, smoke, some bananas. Taste is the same. not bad.
2.8 At Spezial Keller. Hazy orange color with white head. Aroma is fresh minerally, spicy, a bit bananas. Taste is more minerally freshness, really not much more - just hints of bananas. High carbonation, soft mouthfeel.
3.4 Frisch und gut gekühlt vom Fass in der Brauerei. Das wahrscheinlich beste Rauchweizen deutschlandweit.
3.2 500ml bottle (HBF2016) Very soft bacony aroma. Sweet malty body, some smoked sausage. Lovely wheatiness too. Very nice.
3.0 500ml bottle @HBF 2016 as " Spezial Special Weissbier Rauch". Clear amber color. Huge size, white head, stays. Fatty sausages, smokey, minerals in aroma. Delicious smokiness along with fatty sausages in taste. Grains, some minerals and yeast in aftertaste. Solid brew.
3.6 Hefetrübes Bernstein mit durchschnittlicher Schaumkrone. Malzig, etwas Karamell, rauchig, Speck, hefig, leicht fruchtig, spritzig.
3.6 0.5 l bottle from ’De Bierkoning’, best before June 2016. Hazy, golden amber with a massive, dense, stable, tan head. Faint, sweetish-malty, slightly smoky aroma of honey, charcoal, banana and hints of clove. Sweetish-malty, spicy and slightly smoky taste of honey, banana, charcoal, clove and some vanilla, followed by a short, chalky, yeasty-spicy finish. Medium body, slightly creamy and effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. I assume that without the subtle notes of smoke this would be a very mediocre Weizen. But in this way it is somewhat unique while being less offensive than Schlenkerla’s Rauchweizen.
3.8 Bottle shared on the train from Nuremberg to Freising during day 3 of the Bamberg Jolly of January 2015. Pours cloudy yellow-gold with a fluffy white head. Very nice, with good balance, and creamy wheat, light esters, faint lemon. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation, and massaging texture. Nicely balanced finish, some dry wheat, a little banana, citrus fruits. Solid hefe.
3.1 Parva oranžově zlatá, pěna hustá. Vůně lehká. Vyšší říz, příjemný mírně hořký nástup, v pozadí lehká banánová chuť. Celkem slušná pšenice...
3.5 500ml bottle, gift from ippopotamo36 (thanks Alberto!). Pours pale yellow, opalescent, with a big white head. Aroma of esters, banana, light lemon touch, spices. Flavour is medium sweet and balanced between a light sourish end. Light body, medium to light carbonation. Ok.
2.8 500ml bottle at the Spezial Keller in Bamberg. Aroma is light grass, light smoke. Appearance is cloudy orange with a light white foam. Taste is light sweet and light sour. A bit metallic. Medium to strong carbonation. Average.
3.6 Complete hazy body, deep sandy-amber. Good off white head. Aroma; wheat malts, meadow spices, ripe banana, clove, coriander, white bread dough. Taste; sweet powerful malts, ripe banana, coriander, clove, dough, bread, fruitiness - leading to a malty finish with bread and fruits. Good body, soft carbonation, overall a good weißen. 3.2 On tap at Spezial in Bamberg. Bready smell but not allot of foam banana. Similar taste, even less foam banana in the taste. Drinkable but their smoke beer was way better.
3.7 Draught at Spezial Keller, Bamberg, Germany. Cloudy amber, medium to large white head. Slightly spicy, phenolic aroma, some fruity notes. Medium bodied, medium to high carbonation. Dry, low bitterness. Quite good.
3.5 At the source Spezial Brewery in Bamberg-Germany. Pours an extreme cloudy golden dark color, not that right but nice enough. Nose: clove and banana, tart notes here and there as well. Mouth: the greates end (dry) among the weisses I had, a bit of tart feel in a esters dominated drink.
3.3 Flasche 50cl. Leicht trübes Bernstein, typischer Geruch nach Banane und Nelke. Leider kein Rauch wie erhofft.Ziemlich durchschnittliches Weisses, ohne Highlights. Hatte viel mehr von dieser Brauerei erwartet.
3.2 (Bue à la brasserie): Un mélange peu convaincant entre les esters bananesques et épicés avec une boucane modérée mais insistante. LA corpulence est accessible pour une belle buvabilité mais la combinaison des saveurs écorche.
2.4 Vor Ort in Bamberg gezischt. Angenehmerweise ist dieses Piwo nicht mit Rauch oder Lachs gesegnet. Eher Fruchtsalat, ein wenig Hefe und Getreide. Der Fruchtsalat nervt ein wenig und bringt zu viel Suesse mit ins Spiel. Knuspriger Abgang, dies alles jedoch, ohne gross zu ueberzeugen.
3.3 Bottle at the brewpub. The beer pours out in a cloudy orange colour with steady head and medium to smooth body. Aroma of yeast and wheat. Taste of yeast, bread, wheat, mild fruits and cloves. Easy drinkable and refreshing. Solid Hefeweizen.
