Sprecher Oktoberfest

AUTUMN - Traditionally brewed to celebrate the harvest season, this reddish-brown lager has a rich caramel character and a long flavorful finish. Its delicious malty sweetness is nicely accented by a slightly fruity bouquet and a mild hop flavor.

3.5 [Bottle] Bright orange colored pour with a soapy head. Nose is of caramel malts, crisp hops and a light earthiness. Taste is of toasted breads, caramel, grassy/herbal hops, toffee and grains. Good body for the style. Nice and drinkable. Tasting notes from 12/2011.
3.4 Normal Oktober one. Not much thickness anf fine features. Very nice to drink but just that.
4.2 For a beer that doesn’t come from the land of bratwurst, Sprecher’s Oktoberfest tastes a lot like the genuine artifact. The malt’s caramel quality is supple but balanced by a light, crisp hopping. Big on flavor but low on bitterness, this lager is an autumnal treat, one that begs to be paired with sausage or other spiced meats.
2.6 Aroma is sweet and enticing, but flavor is slight and on the sweet side with poor balance. Creamy lingering flavor is probably the highlight of a weak Marzan.
3.8 sweet, malt, caramel. A little bready. Similar taste, a little bit of a dry finish. A little bittersweet, possibly dark dried fruit.
3.6 Pours a nice looking ruby reddish dark amber. Large frothy dense off-white head, partially lasting with lace. Malty sweet aroma, caramel, little toffee, bready. Medium body. Finish is dry, a bit earthy, residual sweetness too. Classic oktoberfest. Classic oktoberfest that leans a little more towards the dryer, nuttier side.
3.1 Draft. Dark amber with small off white head. Aroma of caramel. Light body with caramel and slight malt sweetness.
3.1 Bottle. Toasty caramel malt aroma. Deep amber with a large apricot/tan head. Flavor same as nose - toast and caramel malt flavor with a very subtle toasty bitter finish. Body on the light side of medium, average carbonation.
3.2 16oz, Sprecher bottle, twist-off. Rusty brown color, dark tan head. Initial aroma of musty attic, it may be an old bottle. As it opens up there is a bit more of toasted malt, caramel character. As well as some fruity notes. It definitely needed to open. Somewhat of a metallic character, some toffee-like notes, some caramel, toasted malts flavors. Soft, creamy texture. Overall, there is a dominating fruity character in this beer that kinda takes it away from the style of Oktoberfest/Märzen for me. It is definitely in the category of Vienna with the slightest blood line to an Alt bier. Still a great beer, (BUT) with more of toasted caramel & fruit esters, and less oak, it just isn’t Märzen for me... (3668)
2.9 Bottle poured into a shaker. Roasty caramel with a good dose of citrus fruityness. Pretty decent beer, considering I don’t like Marzen styles.
3.4 Pours orange with a thin wispy tan head. Notes of sweet caramel, munich malt, caramelized wort, fruit, plums, raisins, dates. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.
3.1 16 oz bottle pours amber brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of caramel malt, spice and a little citrus. Taste is caramel, toffee, syrup and grass.
2.5 Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel), lightly hoppy (apricot), with a note of candy sugar. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, syrupy texture, lively/soft carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Nose is amazingly simple...pretty much just sugar/caramel. Very sweet in the mouth without much of anything to balance. Pretty poor.
3.4 16 ounce bottle purchased at Total Wine PembrokePpines, FL for $3.99/4-pack. Very good.
3.4 A translucent red color, bubbling with carbonation, contains a small head that smells of fruit and a tinge of alcohol. An abundantly fruity, slightly sour taste transcends into a malty finish across your taste buds. I am generally not a huge fan of Oktoberfests, but Sprechers delivers a fine beer, that tastes of fruit (but not in a bad way) in their rendition.
3.3 Deep orange-brown. Tastes of oats and caramel, with a well-executed sourness. Thicker feel than usual, seeming maybe even a little gelatinous in the mouth.
3.9 16 ounce bottle into imperial pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy deep red color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of raisin, caramel, apple, molasses, toast, bread, toffee, pear, light nuttiness, and light herbal. Nice aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of caramel, raisin, toast, biscuit, nuttiness, molasses, toffee, and herbal. Lingering notes of caramel, toast, biscuit, molasses, raisin, toffee, and herbal on the finish for a bit. Very nice flavor balance and robustness; zero cloying flavors on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Oktoberfest. Well balanced robust flavors, and very smooth to drink. I have a feeling that this was a bottle from last year or older, but it held up nicely. Very enjoyable offering.
2.6 Bottle, BOTMC. Pours murky dark golden brown with a small offwhite head. Toasty caramel cotton candy aroma, bitter and a little metallic taste with candy undertones. Light body, lively carbonation, long, tangy and sweet finish.
3.4 BOTM Club. Pours amber red with a nice creamy off white head, aroma of caramel, cookies, slightly toasted to roasted with fruity tones, flavor is sweet and malty, with caramel, burnt caramel, malt sourness, vanilla, delicate hoppy tones a touch of sweet spices, medium bodied, well made, easy to drink
3.2 Pours clear dark amber with a medium tan head. Aroma is light and roasty with a touch of fruitiness. Flavor is very fruity with a bit of caramel and dry leaves. Mouthfeel is medium/full and the finish is malty with dry leaves.
3.2 Pours a mostly opaque copper with a thin, tan head that quickly fades. Decent lacing. Malty but intriguing aroma. Odd, almost chocolate notes in the taste. An interesting representative of the style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for the Daystrom M-5
3.2 Bottle. Beer of the month club. Clear deep reddish amber color with a medium beige head. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel, nutty notes, light vegetal hints and a touch of noble hops. Sweetish chewy malt flavor with caramel, decent toastiness and a mildly bitter herbal hops finish. Medium-bodied. Not bad.
3.1 Bottle courtesy of Jenny. Sweet and caramel characteristics... rich and supple oktoberfest. Some body behind it, hazelnut and light cocoa.
3.4 Pours reddish, hazy brown with a foamy tan head. Scent is peppery caramel. Taste is malty, caramel...pepper in flavour as well. Some Bread. Nice, straightforward Marzen......the spice gives it just the right edge.
3.4 A nice caramel color body with hints of red to it. A nice tan head that had nice retention but no lace. Caramel malts dominated the aroma, but there was a slight spiciness to it in the back. Flavor had a good malt profile, nice sweet caramel malts which had a nice almost pepper finish in the end. A nice smooth finish, light bodied and great session beer. Although it was mostly one-dimensional the beer was pretty good.
3.5 12 ounce bottle pours an amber color, aromas of bread, caramel, light hops, some honey, and light earth. Flavors follow suit, not the best to this style, but ok overall.
4.0 Originally reviewed: 10/23/09. Poured into my conical pint glass. Pours a clear rusty orange with a very fizzy ivory head on top. Fizzles to nothing quickly; leaves little-to-no lace. Smells of toasted bread, caramel, and light fruity esters. Big full body on this one. Still retains a nice crisp quality to it though. Carbonation level is moderate-to-high. I really like the flavor profile of this one. There some nice bittering hops in there, but it mostly consists of a full bready mouth, with touches of honey and caramel. Light grainy aftertaste that is pleasant. I really dig this. I wish I could get it around here.
4.0 Pours DEEP copper color. Dark for an OKT. Aroma is that of being on a brewery tour...pure malty heaven. Taste is malty and bready. Hops are very subtle. Creamy and fizzy. Drink it cold.
3.2 Pour on tap at the Reserve Tasting at the brewery (Glendale, WI). Pours a rich copper hue, a light glow with a rich orange copper glow, a decent frothy beige head atop cakes and laces ok. Sticks around pretty well, cakey. Striking hue. Aromas are sweeter biscuits, toast, and a distinct nuttiness. Mellow spice, yeast, and earthy hops. Touches of caramel, bready malts. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied offering mellow sweetness, biscuits, toffee. Gentle nuts, toast, and toffee. Touches of spice, earthy hops. Backend is crisp and mellow toast, touches of toffee, spice, earthy hops. Mellow spice. Just a touch sweet, but a lighter body than I expected for that sweetness. Solid, but a bit odd. Could use a touch more hops, but the body is pretty nice. Mellow earthy, toast and nut. Solid.
3.5 Bottle pours burnt orange-amber with an off-white head. Aroma is somewhat sweet with notes of caramel covered nuts, spiced apple, dates, and a touch of earth. Flavor shows the same with a nice balance between toasted malt and dried fruit sweetness that leads into a lightly earthy finish.
