Sprecher Pub Brown Ale

Sprecher Pub Brown Ale

Brewed in the northern style of an English ale. This light brown ale has a nice caramel and toasted malt flavor, combined with a fresh hoppy aroma that is slightly fruity. This is nicely complimented by a subtle bitterness that rounds out the palate.
[admin note - bottle has 4.8 ABV, website lists 4.5, I went with bottle as that is more commonly seen - theisti]

3.6 This is a light, drinkable brown ale. It is simple and smooth with a malty finish. It’s got a light feel to it.
2.9 Got this at merchant st bistro; big thanks to brad, the dude. $2.50 for a bottle as pictured. Pour is nice iced tea lookin thing with a head composed of rather large bubbles. Smell is clean and english. Taste is not bad. Smooth almost creamy thing happening here. Yes, gets a tad soapy in the middle. Does some smearing co2 in there. Wants to get clying but aint.
2.5 On tap at Sprecher Restaurant in Middleton, pours a clear dark amber light brown with no head, slight malt aroma, the flavor is again of very slight malt and some chocolate, very thin mouthfeel, really did not enjoy this one at all
3.4 16 oz bottle from the brewery (Glendale, WI). Surprised I’ve never had this, it sounds right up my alley. Pours a rich deep copper brown, light haze, healthy fiery glow on the edges. A frothy tannish head sits atop and settles to a firm layer, ok lacing overall. Like the color. Aromas are mellow sweetness, touches of earthy brown malts, caramel, and biscuits. A gentle waft of toast, earthy dry hops. A faint spice, biscuits, and mellow sweetness mix with dry toast, biscuits. Simple yet inviting. Initial is medium bodied offering a subtle thickness up front. Brown malts, touches of toffee, toast, and biscuits. Mellow dry florals, more earthy brown malts with kisses of faint cocoa, dry toast. Some mellow sticky toffee. Really nice vibe on this sessioner, offering toast, earth, and that lingering sweetness into the back. Gentle spice, faint dryness, but that touch of sweetness and thickness sticks, mellow cocoa elements, making the beer a bit memorable. A sweeter brown, yet inviting. Simple but enjoyed.
3.0 16 ounce bottle from Asheville Wine Market. Pours a clear brownish amber with a thin tan head that exits post haste. Aroma of brown malts, nuts, caramel. The taste is brown malts, faint chocolate, toasted malts and a bitter hop finish. Medium bodied.
1.9 about the most watery brown ale ive ever had. aroma was worrying ,as it had a diacetyl smell to it. but the flavor was thin and and bland. id like to dry it fresh, as i think this had been sitting around for a while too.
2.8 Bottle. Clear reddish amber pour with a smaller white head. Aroma is a funky toffee. Lighter palate with some carbonation. Taste is a slightly watery caramel and toffee. OK, about what I was expecting.
3.8 Clear brown color with nice white head that fades rather quickly. Taste is somewhat lacking for the style with an almost sourish ending.
3.0 Bottle. Raisin, nuts, and toffee malt aroma. Medium brown color with small head. Sweet nutty toffee malt flavor with a light bitter finish.
3.6 Aroma is caramel, toffee, and nutmeg. Appearance is a murky brown. The flavor is malty but you know what? This is like a Newcastle clone but I like Newcastle.
3.0 Bottle. My bottle reads "Sprecher Pub Brown Ale." Pours a medium brown with a small fizzy off white head. Aroma and flavor are fairly sweet, not very nutty, some caramel, some fruity esters. Light palate. Fairly tasty and easy drinking -- i.e., a pub ale.
2.7 Pours a chestnut brown color with an aroma of nuts, hops, and a faint hint of fig. Some caramel, toasted malt and nuts in the flavor. Kind of bland and empty. One of the lesser quality beers from this brewer.
3.1 Deep amber/brown pour with off white head. Aroma is light chocolate a bit of toasted malt. Sweet caramel and light chocolate. A bit thin and fizzy, but drinkable.
2.2 Watery brown ale, probably would be an okay session but ultimately not worth your time.
3.1 12 oz. Dark brown with a lasting meringue of foam. Nose of graham crackers, marshmallow, ash and earthy, green herbs. Taste is sweet cherry, ground corn, and a barely balancing finish of earthy spice and toasted nut shell. Light-medium body is watery, and a little fizzy. Very interesting take on the style, but just a bit too fruity sweet even with a sour-acidic and nearly mouth-puckering finish.
3.3 Aroma and flavor is fruit/berries and mild nutty notes. Decent enough brown ale.
3.1 I drank it quick, so I didn’t get much of a chance to enjoy it, but it was good.
2.9 As "Sprecher Pub Brown Ale". Pours brown with an off white head. Aroma of...Brown ale. Flavor of...Brown ale. It’s the Brownest ale of ALL!
3.4 On tap @ Sprecher. Nice mid-brown dark appearance with a decent head and later lace. Aroma was of lightly sweet malt and light hops. Taste was also of malts with a slight burnt hue and a nice smooth lightly hopped finish. Good mouthfeel. Overall, a nice brown ale that I will likely re-visit sometime in the future.
2.5 From a 16oz bottle,light brownish red,thin white head,light malt taste,thin body."Water down Brown Ale"
2.4 Pours orange/brown with off white head, aroma is a bit of roasted malt with a big nutty component. Taste up front is a bit of hops leading into a nutty middle and finishing pretty sweet. Not bad flavors, but the tastes were really weak.
3.0 Pours dark amber to copper with a 2 finger creamy eggshell head that has great retention. Aroma is toasted grain, toasted nuts, light citrus and herbal hops, toffee, and light woody notes. Flavor is sweet malt, cereal grain a little sweet corn, sweet, toasted nuts, buttery toffee, citrus and herbal hop notes. Palate is light bodied off dry throughout and with a full, but not toos sharp carbonation. Not too bad overall, kid of normal, all around solid, but not overly interesting Brown Ale.
3.4 Huge tan head crowns this amber colored nectar. Aroma is of barley and malt. Very creamy on the palate with a nice balanced flavor profile of toasted grains, hops and bread. Quenches a powerful thirst. Try it served with steak and bell peppers off the grill.
3.1 clear brownish copper colour with a thin off white head. aroma is slightly nutty roasted malt and toffee. Easy roasted malt flavour with a light nutty bitterness. Not especially complex, but a nice enough session brown. Perhaps a touch over carbonated though.
3.2 Bottle. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Malty with caramel malt tones, some light nuts, almond, subtle dry coffee roast and some light esters. Thin sessionable brown ale.
3.8 Akin to Newcastle, this brew is nutty and somewhat caremely and nutty. Quite tasty at a warmer temperature. Not really recommended - their Hefe Weiss is much better in my opinion. But this is still a good ale. No doubt.
3.0 16 oz bottle from Sandy’s Liquors. Nose of caramel and toastiness. Clear cherry brown with a medium beige head. Flavor is caramel, toasted wheat, and light background bitterness.
3.3 Pours dark red/brown. Creamy, frothy head. Roasted malt aroma. Faint roasted flavor with some bitterness. A little thin, but good.
3.0 Had at the brewpub after a tour of the place. Not bad, but just a normal plain brown ale.
3.1 A deep ruby brown color with a thick off-white head that quickly calms down. Aroma is very sweet with brown sugar, raisin and caramel malt. a slight nutty note, light chocolate malt also in there with a toffee finish. A strong toffee and caramel flavor at the front, plum middle and a nutty ending. Overall a decent offering by Sprecher but just not a beer I would enjoy on a regular basis.
