Spring House Big Gruesome

Spring House Big Gruesome

Creamy, malty, and full-bodied, the Big Gruesome Stout is scary good. The intense, roasty flavor comes from two types of chocolate malt and raw cocoa nibs. The stout is then aged on whole vanilla beans and more raw cocoa nibs to enhance the chocolate flavors. Rich peanut butter is introduced throughout the entire brewing process to make this stout even more Gruesome.here is the deScription:

3.4 Pours a near black with an overly energetic tan head which took 5 minutes to pour......aroma is metal, toasted malt, touch of peanut.....taste is peanut up front, toasted malt not really chocolate tasting then a lactic kind of finish.....perhaps with the overly energetic head and lack of chocolate taste it was an older can.
3.9 Bottle pours out black topped with a tan head. Nose is nice big peanut butter chocolate roast malts and a little coffee. Taste is more of the peanut butter forward chocolate and roast. Very nice
3.4 Aroma is redolent with peanut butter and chocolate, with a touch of dark fruit underneath. It pours an opaque black with a full tan head on top. There’s more fruit flavor then chocolate or peanut butter in the flavor though. An offputting sweetness fades to hints of chocolate and peanut butter. Thin bodied, but drinkable.
4.3 Can. Thanks New Belgium guy we met at Pies and Pints in Charleston, WV! Blackest of black with a huge tan head. Roasty and peanut butter and caramel-coated nuts and a hint of chocolate in the nose. Robust taste full of pb and chocolate, bitter and sweet and just a little dry. Full body. Very carbonated. pleasing and long pb finish. Very good stout but not really imperial.
3.3 Deep and dark with a thin tan head. Punchy, thin at first. But it builds some thickness as it reaches the peanut flavor. Hints of cocoa, coffee, and cherry.
3.3 0,75l bottle at home from my Secret Santa, big thanks. No obvious BB date. black color, samll coffee-colored head. smells of bitter herbal, vanilla, roasted nuts, peanut butter, rather sweet and nuty after a while. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes of vanilla, lightly nutty, rather ashy notes, bitter herbal. finishes rather bitter herbal / roasty with notes of ash and some herbs. okish, but did n ot like the balance, rather bittterish / ashy herbal. below average.
3.8 Draft - Nitro - Roast peanuts and milk chocolate. Jet black with a rich light brown head. Chocolate and nice peanut roast with a long finish. Nice.
4.0 Bottle thanks to Chow. Pours black with medium tan head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is strong chocolate, peanut butter, roast. Thick mouth, chewy, cocoa, peanut butter, nice sweetness, vanilla, light booze, really enjoyed this.
3.5 Delicious and complex imperial stout. The aroma and flavor were both complex and dominated by roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Thick and chewy. The finish brought out even more flavors. Vanilla and sweer grains with just a hint of bitter dark chocolate. Good carbonation. Nice beer
3.8 Can to shaker glass, pours pitch black. Small light tan head, minimal lacing and retention. Smells like a Reese’s peanut butter cup. Taste is sweet without being cloying, nice bitterness in the background. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, silky mouth feel. Finishes long. Tasting notes of chocolate, peanut butter, oak, vanilla, dark roasted malt and tree nuts. I didn’t think I would like this but I was wrong! A very tasty local offering.
3.7 Bottle. Poured a hazy brown color with a medium foamy tan head. Aromas of peanut butter and chocolate hit the nose. Flavor was peanut butter, chocolate, vanilla, and some wood notes. Full body, creamy texture, average carbonation, easy finish. Very good PB beer.
4.3 Bottle shared by Matthew Wirtz, thanks! Quite straightforward in aroma, with lots of peanut and chocolate. However the flavour has an unexpected hoppy twist of moderate intensity - remains under peanut and roast, but discernible with a fruity and grassy flavour. Moderate body, well attenuated. I love these peanut beers.
4.4 Bottle kindly shared by Mattew, many thanks. Dark brown color with medium beige head. Strong aroma of peanut bitter, roasted malt, espresso, dark chocolate. Taste, peanut butter, chocolate, cocoa nibs, vanilla. Tasty.
4.3 Pours a pitch black body. Head is 1/5th of an inch and beige in color. Head retention and lacing are above average. Smell is pure peanut butter and milk chocolate. Seriously smells like someone blended a bag of reeses peanut butter cups into a stout. Tons of sweetness present, alcohol and hops not detected. Taste is similar to smell, rich peanut butter first, sweet milk chocolate next, finishes with some burnt malt, almost coffee like. Hops and alcohol aren’t present, drinks very smooth for 8% alcohol. Mouthfeel is somewhat light for a peanut butter stout, carbonation levels were good. Wish the head was thicker. Overall, really enjoyed this beer. Best peanut butter beer I’ve had. If it had a bigger body, that would really make it world class.
3.7 22 ounce thanks to Greg. Dark pour. Creamy head. Peanut butter. Chocolate. Slight metallic taste. medium body.
3.7 What a shocker that this is 8.5 abv. Drinking from sampler at the Taproom. I was about to rate this sweet stout and then I see its an impy stout that just tastes like a sweet stout with peanut butter and chocolate. Its sweet from the adjuncts not from sugar. Once you get past the peanut butter and chocolate, its actually a dry finish, a bit minerally, light roast. he adjuncts really hide the any possibly acidity or alcohol but I am not sure these are present anyway. I am not a fan of gimmicky adjuncts but this is done well. Its not a Southern Tier like diabetes job, I don’t actually love peanut butter but this works well in this beer. I would say, if I were to drink a peanut butter, chocolate fondue, gimmicky, impy stout, this would be the one.
3.6 Drank at Malou’s goodbye party 27-9-2015. Okay beer, but not that great. Does not have that much taste, a bit weak.
3.7 i like peanut butter and chocolate but usually don’t like these types of beer. this is an exception it is full in the body and flavor yet not thick. still somewhat beery in the carbonation with a bit of malt.
3.6 Dark brown pour, tan head. Nose is big peanut butter, chocolate, roasty. Taste is chocolate, slight peanut butter, roadty, a touch of bittering hops. Thin-medium mouthfeel.
3.7 Bottle shared with my wife. Pours a deep black with a thick tan head. A hint of sweet chocolate behind a thick dusty peanut note. Medium bodied, sweet peanut butter, a hint of chocolate. Thins out a bit, cocoa and roast. Long peanut flavor on the finish with some more roast.
1.4 Over hyped. There is literally no Peanut butter Flavor and once you strip that off you have a poor example of a Imperial Stout. It is bitter, not hop bitter, but maybe too much chocolate malt bitter. Maybe I would give it another shot, but only if I can find it on tap somewhere. I got a 22 oz bottle and that was $13.00! I can honestly say, I had the worst headache on the planet after drinking this stuff. I would not recommend and it is another example of an over hyped beer.
4.2 Bomber to stout glass. Pours black with a mocha colored head that fades quick but leaves decent lace. The aroma is just like a high end peanut butter cup. Lots of chocolate and creamy peanut butter, like Peter Pan peanut butter. The taste is creamy chocolate, roasted peanuts, sweetness, and chocolate malts. It's really good but pretty sweet overall. Good for a dessert beer. Really like this one.
3.4 22oz bomber shared by JohnGonk at Gus’s kids bday party. Poured into baby blue solo cup. Pours black with small creamy tan head. Aroma of dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, and loads of peanut butter. Taste or roasted malt, sour coffee, bad chocolate, and peanut butter powder. A little on the thin side, but decent.
3.6 This poured a darker brown color with a beige head. Aroma was of big peanut butter, light chocolate and coffee in there too. Flavor similar, but very dry, was expecting sweet from the aroma, s little thin and fades quickly.
3.9 8 oz pour on draft at Al’s of Hampden. Dark brownish black with light tan head. Aromas of peanut butter, cocoa puffs, light roast. Tastes of peanut butter and cocoa, roast. Medium body with a dry finish.
3.6 Keg @ pizza boy. Deep brown with a tan head. Nose of string lactose, cream, roasted nuts and peanut butter. Chocolate and coffee. Taste is super dry, pretty roasty. Nutty, cocoa. Shredded coconut and mounds bar. Fun. Just a touch thin.
4.3 This was poured into a tulip. The appearance had a dark brown close to black color with a slim finger’s worth of off white foamy head that dissipated within less than thirty seconds. Stringy lacing glosses along the sides of the glass. The smell was decadent peanut butter chocolate, pure and luscious in every sort of aspect. The taste was definitely more Imperial stout as the peanut butter was there but more scaled back. I didn’t mind so much. The aftertaste was dry and somewhat had a peanut butter connotation to it. A semi - sweet sticky finish accompanies the end. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. The carbonation seemed pretty controlled and allowed a decent creaminess to roll over the tongue. Overall, I say this was an exceptional AI/DS with the peanut butter part well executed. Definitely would have again!
4.8 Pours black with an aroma of chocolate & peanut butter (not one more prominent than the other); smells just like a Reece’s cup. This us the best peanut butter stout that i’ve come across; better than sweet baby Jesus
3.2 Not too bad. Peanuts more than peanut butter. More peanuts than chocolate. I’m not rushing out to get more but for the novelty (which, it isn’t even that novel any more) it’s worth a try.
