A messy American sour might have been inspired by Rodenbach but tastes more like acidic apple juice and red vines. A beer best shared with friends to minimize the amount you personally have to drink, the contents are nothing more than a tick. Don’t pick this up and try to age it beyond a month or two.
Aroma / Appearance - The carbonated caramel brown base overdoes the bubbly nature as the head surges upwards. After a minute it collapses to nothingness. Oak, vinegar, and caramel brownies rise with an acidic tone that highlights the cherry red vines.
Flavor / Palate - The acidic bite immediately blasts the palate with vinegar and cherry pits. Warm apple juice carried by the chewy mouthfeel hits the throat first. Soon afterwards the vinegar sticks to every surface. More balance beyond a malt driven acidity would do remarkable things for a confusing mess of mixed messages.

Good…

RBESG pt 18. Moncada. Grand Tasting. Hazy amber beer, residual pale cream colour head. Palate is very light, also dry and crisp. A nice mix of sharp gueuzey sourness, lemon and fresh orange which is set off by a nice vanilla oak. Crisp dry finish. Interesting and tasty.
3.6Bottle shared at RBESG 2014 Grand Tasting. Unclear dark orange to brownish color, small off-white head. Smell and taste sourness, sour fruits, red fruits, red currant, fruit peel, dry, lightly liquor. Medium body and carbonation.
4.0Bottle - Sour cherry and barrel notes. Cloudy red copper with a thin white head. Tart up front and a throat hurting strength, sour cherry and a lot of wonderful.
3.5RBWG14 Trip Rating #156. Bottle shared by Sledutah at the Grand Tasting. Pours a hazy red color with a thin fizzy tan head. Poor head retention. Aroma of tart stone fruits and mild funk. The taste is tart earthy funk, stone fruits. Medium bodied.
4.2Bottle shared at RBWG grand tasting! This one was of my last of the afternoon and my notes are "holy shit wrestle. Awesome". I remember liking it a lot, thicker and chewier than most with a lasting finish.
3.9Taster at RBWG 2014 grand tasting - thanks to the person who shared this! Mostly hazy amber orange color. Thin khaki head. Some dots of lace. Nice woody cherry fruity aroma. 4.1750 ml corked and caged bottle courtesy of Doodler (Thanks Scott!) poured a hazy reddish brown with a lingering ring of amber foam. Aromas of caramel, cherries, vinegar, light funk and a hint of oak. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry tart finish. Flavors of caramel, vinegar, fruitiness and light funk with a crisp dry tart lingering funky caramel finish.
3.9750mL bottle pours a hazy ruby/brown with minimal khaki head. Aroma of caramel, tart cherries, and oak. Really nice tartness from the cherries all the way through, balanced well with oak and caramel notes. Not complicated, very nice!
3.9Bottle. Clear brown pour with an off white head. Sour cherry aromas. Sour cherries, vinegar, and caramel malts. A bit thin in the body, bus still a pretty nice Flanders’ Red. Good mouthfeel. Low in carbonation with vanilla and barrel sub tones.
4.1Bottle courtesy of a dear friend SLC. Colour...semi cloudy dark amber with no head. Nose...quite spicy, and fruity with yeasty bits, candied orange and pekoe tea. Palate...very tangy! This is a gleek fest in a glass! Oh Lordy! It’s salvation ( that’s right, SALAVATION) in a glass! A grand oud bruin style with loads of tart cherry, dry oak and lemon zest. I wish I had more of this but I’m glad to have had the opportunity to have one!
2.8Poured into a tulip.
3.75 A: Well hazed plum color. One finger of frothy beige head that retains fairly well and leaves a short ring of lacing.
3.25 S: When I first took a whiff of this, I wasn’t getting much. So I let it warm up...a lot. Even then, there wasn’t enough aroma. It smells like how I imagine a Flanders beer would smell if it wasn’t given enough time for the bugs to do their thing. Very little in terms of acidity, but what is there is acetic-centric. About the same level of funkiness - mild and I dare say insufficient, but pleasant nonetheless. This beer is decidedly flowery, which is something I’m not used to in the style, but it works. Plum, currant, mixed berries, and white grape fruitiness. Hints of vanilla and oak. Again, not bad, but lacking power.
3.5 T: The taste has the same problem as the nose - lacking strength. That said, the flavors are good, but there’s no real focus. Mildly acetic, mild wildflower and apple orchard funkiness with a bit of rotting wood. Fruits listed in the nose. Vanilla and oak come out a bit stronger in the taste. There’s a good balance here, but there’s just not enough flavor. I haven’t had many beers in recent weeks, so I trust my palate more than ever right now.
2.5 M: This is the worst aspect of the brew. It’s a bit too thin which gives a watery vibe to it. It’s light to lighter medium body. The carbonation is also a bit too low and what is there is neither creamy, nor spritzy (either one is fine and at least one is necessary for me). Nothing here is even up to par.
3.0 D: Hard to put this beer at anywhere other than average. It has potential and will probably be a lot better next time if they reuse the same barrels, but it definitely needs some more body, better carbonation, and a lot more time with the bugs.
