St-Ambroise Noire à l'Avoine / Oatmeal Stout

St-Ambroise Noire à l'Avoine / Oatmeal Stout

St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

3.9 A little bit too sweet for me yet a pretty good beer.
3.1 This stout poured a deep black colour with a creamy, brown head. Beautiful lacing. Scents include coffee, plastic and molasses. First swig was nice and roasted with flavours of coffee, caramel and dark toast. Finish is burnt with coffee flavours lingering.
3.6 Pint poured at the pork and pickle in Montreal airport. Pours dark brown with a thick tan head. Smells like chocolate. Tastes malty with a weak coffee taste. I’m sure I’ve had this before and didn’t rate it; not the best stout I’ve had.
4.1 Dégustée dans un verre "Les 3 Loups". Température de début 9 à 10°. Robe ébène opaque surmontée d'une mousse café crème assez persistante. Nez : arômes vineux, avoine, café, houblons. Goût : bonne consistance pour 5% d'alcool, légère douceur, chocolat, céréales. Palais plutôt long sur l'amertume.
3.5 Fles 35,5cl thuis. Sterk bitter, mokka, koffie, roasted, droppig? Iets waterige ondertoon. (8-2013).
4.1 Dark, smooth and creamy. Roasted malt and chocolate flavors. Lightly hopped. More complex than most Oatmeal Stouts
3.9 A good stout with some porter-like qualities. I am tasting all kinds of stuff like chocolate, oatmeal, coffee/toffee, caramel, hops, etc...but I am not getting the "wow factor". Reminds me sort of like Flag Porter, or some English-style Sweet Stouts. Dark black appearance with a dark brown head that is beyond mocha colored. I would try this again because it is a solid brew and not super expensive.
3.2 (nez moka-avoine, raisin sec, bouche plate (déçu) sur blé grillé, direct amère, côt fruit suret, bancal, indus)
3.1 Decent stout. Hint of tin in it though. Probably better on tap? Not much aroma to speak of. Good appearance, big creamy, light brown cap. Tastes of burnt coffee. not too bitter. Tall can, Lcbo, TO.
3.7 0,473l can. Pours black with small tanned head. Chocolate, roasted malts, coffee. Really soft mouthfeel. Sweet, but not overtly so. Quality!
3.6 0.341 l bottle from 'Hopt', best before March 2019. Black with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, dark beige head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty and a bit fruity aroma of milk chocolate, hazelnut and some dark fruits. Quite sweet, malty, slightly roasty taste of milk chocolate, milk coffee, hazelnut, some vanilla and hints of licorice, followed by a short, moderately roasty-bitter, quite earthy-dry finish. Medium body, quite smooth, slightly creamy and moderately effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Pretty thick and lots of flavour for that abv, of course not overly complex but quite saturating.
3.1 Bottle at Banquise, Montreal. Deep brown pour with a small head. General knackered caramel. Some watered-down mocha. Drinks sort of thin. Gentle toasty malt. Mild chocolate sweetness.
3.1 Good. Stout if there's nothing more
4.5 My favourite stout. Pours a midnight black colour about half a finger of brown head. Nose is burnt coffee and roasted malts. Taste is mainly coffee and dark chocolate with a nice hop bitterness. Has a nice balanced finish. Perfect amount of carbonation. Body is heavy, yet smooth to drink.
4.1 473 mL can from my local LCBO. Pours rather thick, with a decent sized brownish head and a jet black colour. Aromas of coffee mainly, but also chocolate, toasty malts and maybe a little bit of oats. Tastes of coffee and chocolate, with a very smooth and thick body that transitions very well into the finish which is rather bitter. It goes down really easy, and I absolutely love it. This is a lovely beer, and I'll for sure be drinking this again in the future.
3.7 Rated so high on here because it's clean and the oatmeal is so crazy strong, and works. More body would make it a fantastic beer, but it's reasonable for the low abv.
3.7 Bottle from Saveur Bière cons 2017-12-29 Göteborg AR: melas, roasted malt, caramel AP: black, dark brown steady lid F: roasted malt, brown sugar, wee melas, hint of Julmust, caramels
3.8 Aroma is a bit weird: besides the nice coffee and oatmeal notes, there's a hint of fermented dark fruit, hazelnut and chocolate. Taste is medium bitter and roasty, with dark chocolate, ash, dark fruits, and the finish is bitter and dusty. There's some fermented fruit in there as well. Good.
4.1 Très foncé; pas trop amer; superbe goût avec des touches de café; odeur torréfiée. Bonne noire.
3.8 Bottle pours black with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and some dried fruit. Taste is chocolate and coffee.
3.8 Robe noire, fine mousse.
Bonne stout traditionnelle.
4.0 11.5oz bottle at home. Pours black with little or no head. Roasted malt and dried fruit aroma. Flavors are well-integrated chocolate, sweet dark malt, raisins, prunes, molasses, dark bread. Soft carbonation. Medium body, thick, creamy texture. Very well balanced, excellent stout.
4.0 Dark, creamy stout. Chocolate, coffee, toffees. Very nice beer which matches perfect with dark, sweet desserts.
4.0 Tap at Beer Bistro, Toronto, 10th July 17. Pours a good looking black beer, nice tan head with lacing. Aroma is iodine, tcp. Taste is smooth, dry, dark chocolate. Good.
4.0 From bottle. Large beige head, very dark brown colour. Aroma: coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla. Lightly sour with dry/coffee aftertaste. Full body, long finish, lively. Very drinkable.
3.8 Another renown beer, eager to try it with friends after volleyball. My first St-Ambroise, a good one.
4.0 341ml bottle. Quasi black colour with average, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, tan head. Roasty dark malty, chocolately aroma, notes of coffe and dark chocolate, fruity hoppy hints of blueberry and blackberry. Taste is roasty dark malty, hints of coffee, milk chococlate and dark chocolate, fruity hoppy overtones with a touch of blueberry and blackberry, overtones of rusty iron; smooth, soft, silky palate. Superbly balanced, harmonious, integrated. Wonderful!
