St-Ambroise Pale Ale

St-Ambroise Pale Ale

St-Ambroise Pale Ale is the brewery’s flagship beer. Introduced in February 1989, it is a hoppy, amber, full-flavoured ale. In The Simon and Schuster Pocket Guide To Beer , beer critic Michael Jackson gave it three stars and described it as: "An outstanding ale... amber-red, clean and appetizing, with a very good hop character, from its bouquet to its long finish. Hoppy, fruity, and tasty all the way through."

3.0 This pale ale poured a deep amber colour with a white, creamy head. Minimal lacing. Scents include fruit juice, honey and cream. First swig was a little thin with nice malt flavours. Finish was very nice with light hoppiness. Very good!
3.3 Bottle, 341mL. Home. A golden amber beer with a medium off-white head ; medium retention. Herb, roast, light caramel, red berries. Light to medium sweet, light dry bitter refreshing ; light spicy. Light to medium body and texture, average good carbonation, dry fruity caramel finish. Overall, enjoyable !
2.5 Canned. Clear brown body, beige head. The aroma is molasses, sweet grass and peach. The taste is balanced and highly fruity. Quite bland but professional.
4.0 Bottle from any local stores. I love the taste of that beer. This is my my go-to beer of choice with a light taste (and alcohol), a nice little bitter presence. Nothing fancy, just a great well balanced simple ale.
2.9 Pours amber orange with a thin white head. Aroma is carmel malt and bread. Carmel, cereal, and roasted malt flavours with a slight bitter. Not bad.
3.6 Let humlet, og noget tør i eftersmagen. Sødlig i det første. En god ale trods alt.
2.8 Aroma is mettalic. Tastes like an English bitter or even an ESB. Some orange peel bitterness. Light and dry. Light cereal caramel malts but mostly a dry bitterness. A bit floral but bitter. Nothing special.
2.9 0.341 l bottle thanks to Cristobal37. Aroma of caramel, bread, juniper and some metal. Taste of bread, pears, citruses and some toast. Quite light, but not bad.
3.4 0.341l bottle. pours a hazy amber with a small white head. aroma of woody hops, raspberry jam, caramel and sweet grains. flavour of biscuit, raspberry jam, nuts, toasted malts, chewed pencil. sweetish, balanced slightly bitter finish.
3.1 12 oz bottle (probably past its prime) pours a clear amber color with tight off-white head that leaves some lacing. Aroma is full of honey and biscuits, with some toffee and perhaps some peach. Taste is sweet with some bitterness finally coming out in the finish. This is one of the maltiest pale ales I’ve tried. Body is medium with soft carbonation and an oily mouthfeel. Not at all what I was expecting, but a pleasant surprise anyway.
3.6 Bottle 33cl. Poured into a lager glass. Clear medium amber, a lot of tiny bubbles, tall frothy beige head, good retention and lacing; aroma malty, toasted, caramel, biscuit, bread; taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, toffee, toasted, average to long duration, toasted bittersweet finish, medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation; solid pale ale.
3.1 Pours a pale amber colour with a nice thick creamy head. Nice lacing. Good balance of hops and malts in aroma. Flavours are pretty much the same as aromas, with a bit of grainy taste and thick maltiness. Sort of spicy mouthfeel and some tingling on the palate. Not bad, nothing outstanding for a pale.
3.2 0.341 l bottle from ’Saveur Bière’, bottled in September 2015. Clear, golden amber with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, tan to white head. Sweetish, slightly fruity aroma of honey, strawberry jam, toffee and some peach. Sweetish, rather malty and slightly fruity tase of honey, toffee, marmelade and some peach, followed by a short, slightly bitter finish. Medium body, slightly oily mouthfeel, average carbonation. Decent, easily drinkable stuff.
3.8 Clear amber color with powerful delicate activity. Creamy white sparkly 1.5 finger head lasting around 10 minutes with strong legs. Aromas and flavors of grains, fruits, citrus, caramel, floral and herbal spices. Nice floral nose and delicious taste of sweet orange, lemon, apple and a fresh grain feel. Also slightly woody and grassy. Creamy full body with moderate carbonation. Strong and long finish ending with a slightly fruity but highly spicy bitter chalky and dry mouth coat. Overall a very good craft; complex and delicious crispy flavors with good freshness while having a little too much aggressive bitterness for my taste with tongue numbing spicy hops.
3.7 Golden malts, giving a biscuit malt base aroma, and taste. Hops are English and perhaps some resin. Balanced recipe and enjoyable, and despite not being extreme at all and flavourful, it’s not one typical style that it reminds me of. English Pale Ale perhaps. Nice bitterness and good drinkable body. Very nice to drink, quality brew. (Bottle from Saveur Bière)
3.2 Amber color and minimal head. Medium hoppy aroma. Taste is bitter with a dry finish.
3.0 Visual: Pours clear salamander orange with a dissipating small head, a thin layer of micro retention, a mix of fast and slow loose streams. Nose: bright fruity orange, raspberry jam, sweet malts (lvl-6)-pungency Attack: crisp-watery, fizzy-tingly Mid-palate: short duration, (lvl-4)-sweetness, (MAIN) toasted malt, bread-grainy, Finish: soft bitter hops, malty clean but short finish. Summary: Easily drinkable but nothing much here. Very clean albeit basic malt profile with good texture. Lacks depth and character. Those nose was good, but the taste is just average.
Sympa. Bouteille 341ml achetée sur un stand québécois au marché de Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie (étrange), France, bue le 18/10/2015.
4.6 Can from the grocery store. Poured into a pint glass, bright clear orange with a 1-inch off-white head that stayed around almost to the bottom of the glass. This is one of my go-to beers, always have some in the fridge, but strangely haven’t gotten around to rating it until now. Aroma right up front is unapologetically all floral hops, with a nice grainy maltiness making itself known after a few sips. Nicely bitter, but not in an over-the-top, puckering sort of way, with a mellowing earthy sweetness underneath. Medium carbonation, with a clean, bitter finish. One of the best of the macro-micro offerings from Québec, in my opinion reminiscent of some of the great Burton ales. Always deserving of a space on the shelf.
3.3 Draft in Toronto. Copper brown, great foam. Malty, clean. Nice balance. Not American in style in my book but a solid, nice ale.
3.4 Can bought at an LCBO in Toronto/Canada. Pours a copper clear color with a solid soapy white head. Aroma is mostly malt with some fruit in the back. Taste is malty, bitter fruits with a dry and balanced malt and bitter hops finish reming me of walnuts and sugaless forest fruits. This is a good beer, but I prefer the hoppy and less malty American pale ale.
2.7 Can. Pours copper with minimal head. Buttery aroma. Not a lot of flavor but some diacytel in there with minimal hop bite. It’s okay but disappointing after having their stout.
3.5 Sweet caramel and vanilla aroma. Little to no head...formed into small blotches. Colour is a copper-red. Taste of roasted malt, nut and a hint of creme brule. Sweeter ale with little carbonation. Different from most pales...and i think its great that it is.
2.3 Can from cellarbrations super store hami hill. Have a feeling this is a bad batch. Mouthfeel is quite oily. Taste is quite buttery. Aroma is on the sweeter side.
2.2 Bottle. Clear, amber, frothy, tan foam, medium bitterness, light sweetness, medium body, oily feel, soft carbonation, & bitter finish.
3.8 Bouteille 341ml.
