St. Austell Proper Job (Cask)

St. Austell Proper Job (Cask)

Cask; Regular.

Proper Job is an authentic IPA brewed with
Cornish spring water and malt made from a
blend of malts including Cornish grown
Maris Otter barley.

Proper Job is dedicated to the 32nd (Cornwall)
Regiment who stoutly defended their garrison
during the Indian Mutiny in 1857-58. Throughout
the siege the traditional "Sunset Ceremony"
(beating the retreat and lowering the national flag) was ignored as an act of defiance to the
mutineers. In recognition of a "Proper Job" Queen Victoria awarded the 32nd the honour

3.7 First cask ale after what seemed like years of lockdown. Always a reliable classic. Nice pine and grapefruit flavours, a bit of dryness, drinkable all day long
3.5 Tap. Golden color. Citrus and hoppy aroma. Creamy texture. Hints of tropical fruits, grapefruits, orange. Long after taste of hoppy bitterness.

3.8 Had this many a time. Time for a review from the cask. Had a couple of halves at the Tamar inn, Calstock. Wonderfully clear golden IPA with a lasting white fluffy head. Much more approachable and easy sipping than the bottle conditioned offering. This is at 4.5% and it's just so sessionable. Hoppy, silky, grapefruit and pine notes. medium mouthfeel with Quite a long finish and very very refreshing. A real classic from St. Austell brewery.
4.0 A great Cornish favourite. Big bold hop notes, but perfect balance
3.4 Real ale ticking in London. I feel like Mick the Tick. What's a Cornish IPA? Doesn't taste like corn. Oh well. Bright clear golden with a lacy white head. Aroma is very bright, pineapple, leaves, floral notes. Flavor is medium sweet with a good floral/light fruit bitterness. Medium body, very crisp. I like it. But where's the corn? Not very cornish if you ask me.
4.5 Really pleasant beer to drink whilst watching the Cornish rain come down in a pub with a great view.
3.1 Cask @ Devonshire Arms, Kensington (£5.10). Clear golden appearance with medium-sized white head leaving a soapy lace. Fruity citrus nose, cereal malts, light-medium body, soft carbonation, citrusy hop finish, short length.
3.5 Surprised I've never rated this in cask form before , rectified now though. Pint in The Atlantic, St Mary's on the Isles of Silly; 8th Sep 2019. Poured a clear and clean golden colour with a lasting white crown. The nose holds both malty molasses and berry fruits within the aroma. Taste follows suit with a caramel sweetness alongside fruit flavours. Nice, easy drinking beer.
3.5 Cask. Pours clear golden. Aroma of citrus, pine, orange peel. Smooth, quite bitter.
2.6 Cask at The Long Acre, London. Pours golden color, white head. Aroma of caramel. Taste is medium sweet, lightly bitter, bit sourish, malt, caramel.
3.2 July 2019 The Mitre Shaftesbury. Sweet modern citric hop summer blonde. Easy drinking and tropical.
3.6 Pint at Kings Arms, Luxulyan, Cornwall. Pours mid golden amber with a white head. Aroma: pale malts, hedgerow fruits, floral hops. Taste: light sweet & light to moderate bitter, citrus fruits, marmalade, grassy. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Light bitter finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Nice
3.2 Cask@White Horse, Oxford. Clear golden, small bubbly head. Nose tropical fruits, citruses (all very subdued). Mildly bitter taste, sweetish middle, bitter finish.
4.2 Big hop hit, plenty of bite. 😁
3.6 Aroma; tropics, malts, meadowy hops. Look; standing off-white head, clear amber body. Taste; fruity malts, floral hops, berries, lemongrass, grains, bitters, hops, peach, caramel, rye bread. Notes of smoked malt in finish. Feel; well bodied, softish co². Isn't it English Special Bitter any longer? Didn't come to me as IPA, but anyway it is very good :) [cask at BishopsArms Luleå]
2.9 Slightly sticky, gold pour. Grassy hops throughout, but maybe a bit plain in the end? Eh, not bad.
3.4 Cask, Duke of Clarence SW5. Light yellow coloured bitter with a white foam. Nicely bitter with a satisfying hop bite. Moreish.
3.0 On draft at Holmbush Inn St Austell. Pale straw in colour and hippy aroma. This continues in the taste with some (but not too many) hops.
3.6 23Sep2018 Bitter, candied tropical fruits, mango, papaya, marmalade, sweet grain and cereal malts, wet straw. Clear gold, small, frothy, white head. Light bitter. More bitter citrus fruits, marmalade, mango peel, grass, wet straw, soft carbonation, medium bodied. Nice. Cask at The Ivy House, Chalfont St Giles.
3.3 Casket @ The Three Greyhounds, Londen VII 2018. Licht hoppig ruikend. Kortom lekker.
3.7 Pint @ Hogshead, CY. Really good from every angle. A bit hazy deep golden, great carbo is feeding the thin head. Smells like a British ale, like all the ESBs have this remarkable aroma, maybe a bit fruity overtone inside, so i think the barley is kinda the same like in most of the UK ales. Aromatic hops (Centennial or Cascade-like characteristic), grapefruit and peach skin dominant taste, high IBU (55-60), great aftertaste, absolutely fair one, i like this more than the bottled one - like in general...
3.7 Cask at the Village Inn. Pleasant hoppy IPA with a floral edge
3.3 Very pleasant pint that will no doubt be tried again when back Plymouth when the daughter returns for for her 2nd year at the University
2.9 On tap @Ølfred - Aarhus Streetfood. Pours clear orange, with small foam. Scent: Hoppy, grass. Taste: Pine, a bit water, fine bitterness. Texture: A bit watery, almost oily.
3.4 September 9, 2017 - handpull cask - at Southwark Tavern. Slightly hazy gold with minimal white head. Aroma is wheaty and floral - a tad sweeter than I prefer, but a decent golden ale with a little tartness hovering around the edges - taste follows, more alcohol and acidity - slick, a bit still, finishes fairly quickly with no ill effects in the aftertaste. Nothing special but well founded.
3.4 (19/09/2019) Cask pint at The Oyster Shed, London. Dark golden with a white head. Aroma of citrus, malts, floral hops. Taste is more of the same with a grapefruit and grass finish. Quite bitter. Good.
3.5 From the pump at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours transparent gold with medium persistent white foam, very fine. Aroma is caramel and most of all toffee. Body is relatively dense with low carbonation. Taste is moderately sweet and with a pretty evident bitterness. Finish is just slightly longer than average, though bitterness remains like a sticky feeling in your mouth.
5.0 Cask - Really like Proper Job a very refreshing pint. Have had it in Hong Kong and New Zealand and loved it. The Aroma with hops and citrus is lovely.
3.5 Pint from cask at The North Star. Lightly hoppy IPA, easy drinkable. Pale yellow and soft aroma
