St-Feuillien Brune

St-Feuillien Brune

This brown ale has a marked ruby brown colour with a generous and lasting head. It has a distinctive aroma reflecting the wide range of ingredients used in its production. The fruitiness resulting from its fermentation blends harmoniously with a dominant liquorice and caramel flavour.
The body is decidedly malty. The bitterness is the result of a complex alchemy between the fine hops and special malts used. These give St Feuillien Brune a typical dark chocolate appearance.

4.4 Brown with a small white head. Aromas of malt and yeast, caramel, spices, toffee. Tastes are malty, yeasty, toffee, caramel with slight spices & raisins. Slightly warming and quite refreshing for 8.5%. Solid drink :)

3.6 Old rating from 2016 - 330ml bottle brought back from Belgium. Pours brown with a white head. Aromas & tastes of fruit malt, caramel, spices, toffee, metallic & raisins. Medium body. Dry warm finish
3.2 Schuimkraag verdwijnt snel. Geur kandij of caramel Smaak: drop toffee
Rosinen, Feigen, Malzbonbon, Lakritz.

3.6 Bottle on 27th October 2020. Pours reddish brown with yellow foam soon disappearing without lacing. Caramel aroma. Toffee maltiness in-mouth with hints of cherries and mid spices. A spicy, malty finish. Full bodied with a smooth yet engaging mouthfeel.
4.2 Pleasing clear, deep red and amber colour, decent sized tan head, clingy and dense. Good spicy aroma, agree with a previous reviewer who suggested notes of cola. Some toffee flavour on the palette, finishes quite quickly, but still very nice. Medium fizz, moderately unctuous body. Great dubbel, I like how they have brought that esther-y phenolic goodness we expect from the St Feuillien house strain to the style.
3.4 330mL bottle from IBC 8.5%abv BB 07/04/2022 Deep amber colour, forms a decent sized dense beige head. Aroma of toffee & cola, slight licorice and sort of medicinal blackcurrant, edge of earthy/woody spice. Body fullish upfront but dries out, rather savoury, slick yet kind of well attenuated, kind of boozy. Heavy hit of toffee on the palate - rather sweet at first but becomes savoury, almost vinous with sort of a plummy character, that star anise character comes through with a good deal of nondescript earthy/woody spice once again. Finish is fairly warm, dry, stops a bit short really. Sort of needs more body, or something - sort of just on the edge of everything working but needs more structure to tie it together.
3.9 Pours mahogany brown with a creamy off white head that stays the course. Aroma of dark fruit, brown bread, hint of all spice. Taste is rich fruit, spice and caramel. Good beer.
4.0 Bottle from Belgiuminabox. Pours a murky deep mahogany colour with a large thick creamy beige head. Aromas of dry dark fruits, caramel, brown bread and spice. Taste is more dark fruits, caramel, bread, some chocolate, spice and brown sugar. Full body, average carbonation and very slightly oily mouthfeel. Fruity with a touch of molasses on a sweetish finish. Very good Brune up there with the best.
4.3 330ml bottle. Pours deep mahogany with a tan head. Aroma is tobacco, dark brandy soaked fruits, molasses and orange peel. Pretty carbonated and light mouthfeel for the strength. Taste is licorice, tobacco, dark fruits, Brandy cake, brown sugar and some citrus peel. Fantastic drop!
4.9 Complex aroma, biscoffi, brown sugar, little touch of sweet and slight touch of hoppe. This flavor balance can only be achieved by a master brewer

3.7 330ml (8.5%) at home on 27 Mar 2020, purchased from M & S Foodhall, Heathfield Road, Ayr on 22 Feb 2020 (bbe 28 Jul 2021): caramel malt, ethanol aroma, chestnut brown with a protein haze and ruby tint, thin bubbly beige head, negligible lacing, fruity, caramel, yeast flavour, viscous, soft carbonation, sweet finish.
3.5 Forte, ma fresca, aromatica e dolce, molto saporita e retrogusto durevole
3.1 Pours hazy dark red beer with average frothy tan head. Aroma of cherries, plums, dark fruits, dried fruits, yeast, light caramel.Taste is light to medium sweet and bitter, very light tart, cherries, dark fruits, plums, cola, light caramel, spices, dried fruits. Bitter, fruity finish. Medium- body, average carbonation.
3.7 Pours a muddy mahogany brown with a massive foamy tan head. Aroma is bready malt with a bit of spice. Taste brings fruity raisins, brown sugar and some licorice. Moderately active but largely neutral mouthfeel. A very nice and somewhat unique Belgian brown.
3.6 Lekker biertje . Nagisting op de fles . Volle smaak . Belgisch Abdij bier .
No retrogosto, malte caramelado e final médio seco.
3.8 330ml glass bottle from M&S Brent Cross. One of three beers picked up for £5.00 as part of a mixed buy offer. Dated as best before 17/05/2021. Served into a goblet having been out of refrigeration for about 20 minutes. The beer pours a murky chestnut brown with some visibility giving a ruby edge to the colour. A big beige head with large bubbles they eventually settles. The aroma, much like the taste to come, is very simple. Yeast, sugar, malt. A little banana and dark fruits. The taste is dominated by the sugar, dark fruits and yeast. Very well balanced but somewhat less tasty than some of the other big Belgian dubbels. But still very very drinkable. Alcohol notes in both the aroma and the taste. On the palate the beer is unremarkable. The nice sugary taste wanes away fairly quickly. Very easy to drink, for the price one I’ll come back to.
3.6 Bottle from M&S. It pours dark mahogany brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is rich brown bread, toasted malts, earthy, dark fruits, fruit cake, brown sugar, nougat, sugared almonds and some icing sugar. The taste is dry, bitter - sweet, dried fruits, date, fruit cake, earthy, woody, toasted nut, spice, leather, warming alcohol, candy sugar, molasses, black bin, brown bread and some tannin with a drying finish. Medium+ body and high, foamy carbonation. A decent B-Dubz. Drinkable stuff.
